1. Sadowsky no longer pending: SOLD! (enjoy Barrie! ;-) But the Celinder is still here! :-)
2.
Celinders are easily up in the same build quality as Sadowsky - lovely basses and just so 'playable'
Spot on! That's exactly why I priced these great basses equally. Both play and sound amazing - differently, but amazing!
3. Lots of interest for the Sadowsky! Did anyone notice that there is a Celinder in the OP as well?
4. Well, I am going to let an AMAZING jazz bass go... This is my Celinder J-Update 4. Great, great bass - sounds and plays amazing. It has signs of wear, but again, it's only cosmetic. I will include a hard case for this bass, too. Soundwise, it has the sought-after 'Jazz bass on steriods' flavour - great Celinder sound: punchy and clear! It has a nice and low action with no buzzing whatsoever. A few clips: 1) Fingerstyle: both pups full, preamp slightly boosted (bass/treble), played over the neck pup. 2) Slap: same as above only an additional treble boost (old strings, you know...) Pics: PRICE £1500 plus shipping. SHIPPING I will pack up the bass extremely well. I have plenty of bubble wrap and a solid card board box to put the hard case in. Shipped with standard mail (uninsured), it will be £75 to the UK. To ship insured, I will have to use UPS, and that could be as much as +£150-165. I will only charge actual shipping, and to be honest, I have both sent and received plenty of basses uninsured without any problems, but the choice is yours, of course. PAYMENT I will provide IBAN number and BIC/SWIFT code for international bank transfer, and I will ship as soon as the funds have cleared. FEEDBACK Please check my BassChat feedback here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=87431 And I also have a TalkBass profile with positive feedback (username: Kimb76), and an ebay profile (Boombass76).
5. I started out on a MIJ Fender Jazz. Then, I have been around countless boutique basses (Sadowsky, Celinder, Alleva Coppolo, Mørch, MTD, etc.), but in the end, nothing really plays like an old Fender - P or J. Just IMHO.
6. Pretty close, I guess... I have only tried a Sterling in a music store, but it was really nice, and it sounded and played as good as the 'real' Stingray hanging next to it. The main difference (I think) is that the Sterling has a Ceramic pickup and the SR's have Alnico pickups. But then again, until 2008, SR's also had ceramic pickups. I wouldn't worry too much about the Sterlings being assembled in foreign countries and then set up in the US. It seems to me that it's pretty similar to what Lakland do with their Skyline series, and they are top-notch instruments.
7. I have seen many Celinders, but nothing like that one! Wow! How does the third, middle pickup affect the tone? (compared to the standard J-Update 70's single coil spacing)
8.
i got together with Ari once and played the Celinder J Update 5 that he had at the time back to back with a Atelier Z 5 and what was then my Sadowsky Tokyo 5. Each bass I think intended to be a "70s" style jazz. I thought the Celinder was just too bright in comparison to the other two basses, definitely more modern/hi-fi sounding. Sound wise the Atelier was my favourite, marginally, over the Sadowsky, and I preferred both quite a bit more than the Celinder. The Celinder was still a great bass, and well put together, but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about
I actually bought Ari's J Update 5, and it has served me well for a few years. However, I am now officially 'Celinderless' for the first time since 1999. I still have a J-Update 4, but I rarely use it (as I almost always play 5-strings), and it is currently for sale. I also had an Atelier Z and a Sadowsky Tokyo at the time, and I respectfully disagree that either of them should sound better than a Celinder J-Update :-) In fact, I never imagined selling my Celinder J-Update 5, but I recently got an Alleva Coppolo LM5, and I couldn't justify keeping two basses in that price range - both trying to capture the late 70's ash/maple, 70 pup spacing sound. That being said, they do sound very different when compared directly. I decided to keep the LM5 as I had a buyer for the Celinder right away. I haven't decided yet, but in some ways, I liked the Celinder even better than the LM5 that I kept... They are that good!!!
9. Jo bought my Celinder bass, and he was a super chap to deal with all the way through. Good communication and instant payment once we agreed on the price and terms. Highly recommended! :-). Cheers!
10.
Where can i buy a second hand bass?
Well, right here at BC would be a good starting point... I guess...
11. I have bought quite a few 70's Fender basses (both P and J), and IME, the build quality of that period was very inconsistent. Some of the best basses I have ever tried are from the 70's (in partiular the 72 J and the 78 P in the pic to the left) - as is some if the worst! So, if possible, try out the basses before byuing. However, if that should not be possible (e.g. buying on ebay), don't pay more for it than you expect to be able to get for it on a resale...
12. Hm... I don't know exactly why, of course. But I suspect that: 1) times are extremely hard financially (there was an extremely cheap Alleva Coppolo KBP5 for sale in here a short while ago that didn't sell neither), and... 2) I live in Denmark, and some may be wary about the overseas shipping... I don't know, but those things may have something to do with it... Cause it's truly a great bass :-)
13. Hi Ari, Sorry, mate. It was sold on ebay last year...
14.
I can't believe this is still here bump
Neither can I...
15. Do you have the original preamp, too? And is that included?
16. I never had such problems on any of my SR5s. However, IME/IMO a 0.40 G-string is too weak to sound really good - in general (not just on a SR). Also, apart from adjusting the pickup height, you could also try raising the height of the G-string by adjusting the bridge. If the string gets too close to the board, you often loose tone and volume.
17.
Oops - BoomBass my apologies if my post appeared to imply some criticism - this certainly wasn't my intention and I don't think you'd caused any confusion. I genuinely valued your inputs. The forum works at its best as a place in which we can share information and advice - it's just that sometimes, such information and advice is based on local circumstances and knowledge and therefore doesn't translate/transfer readily to other regions. Again, I'm sorry if I'd appeared to imply any criticism. Back on topic, I'm thrilled that the KPB has moved on - another happy AC owner somewhere (I'm sure all will be revealed in the fullness of time!)?
Hey, no worries, mate. In fact, I didn't take it as criticism. I just got to think of the fact that prices might vary from country to country, so my input may well have caused confusion for some UK based bassplayers (since I spoke only from a Denmark-point-of-view). That's why I 'apologised for the inconvenience':-)
18.
I couldn't agree more - I'm really pleased to see this one resolved to mutual benefit! Boombass - I hear that you'll soon be able to get some accurate and definitive pricing on ACs in the UK Pricing thus far has been somewhat variable.
Hi all, I am sorry if I have caused some confusion regarding AC prices. I think there might be an official AC dealer in the UK? If there is, you should pobably get the precise UK prices from them. However, Jimmy does not have an official dealer or distributor in Denmark, so when I asked for prices, he sent me the complete price list, but I think it only applies to countries without official AC dealers... Hope that cleared things up a bit... And again, sorry for any confusion I may have caused!
19. Thank god this one is gone. Hopefully, I can get some sleep again! ;-)
