  1. Part 1 of the great wood stain experiment has turned up today. Having ordered all 12 of the Crimson Shots, my plan is to try different colours at different dilutions, with different combinations, and some multi-colour sand and apply style samples. I'll be able to see what they look like and I can post the various experiments here so others can see as well. And hence, the big box of Ash offcuts delivered (for a massive £8)
  2. I did put that Marshall amp and cab up for sale a little while back (collection only!) or for trade for something (anything!) but didn't get any takers. It's a shame really because I wish it would get some usage. It's just way beyond too heavy for me at the moment and I'll be sticking to the Helix and QSC K10.2 for the foreseeable. I might get a Barefaced with a lightweight head, but for home use the TE is superb.
  3. If this wasn’t against the docs instructions right now I’d use this all the time…
  4. Good job! Once you’ve done a few the truss rod adjustment becomes second nature, and you get used to how it affects action. You’ll also learn how the bass changes depending on the season and if it needs mid year tweaks as well.
  5. I can't live with or without.... Oh, no, that's right, yeah, I can live without him.
  6. Last time I tried that I saw nothing but a load of spenk...
  7. 2-3mm relief does sound huge. Unless you mean action height… and I’d be careful about letting it settle after each quarter turn - it can take a while for it to settle.
  8. I’d be worried that people would be judging my quack in positions 2 & 4 like they judge my mwah on fretless… There’s just too much to think about for the modern bassist!
  9. Chipped a chippendale to crack cites certificate conundrum?
  10. Did you have a CITES certificate for those shims??
  11. I’m pretty sure BT did those in the 80’s and 90’s….?
  12. I try to avoid playing with myself with butter
  13. Ah yes, of course the DavidGuetta effect.
  14. It’s all to do with the sympathetic transfer of vibrations which maximise the pickups efficacy
  15. I’ve got a pack of those Stewmac neck shims at the ready, and as I said a neck shim transformed the Shuker, so….
  16. I've ordered the full set of Crimson Shots. I've also bought a bargain bag of Ash offcuts from some geezer on eBay so me and the missus can practise and work out the right colour scheme. In anticipation of these two arrivals, I tried a quick mock up..
  17. Very kind. Yeah, I’d like to try something like that at some point, but I’m not travelling much at the moment… Maybe next year when I’m out and about more.
  18. I've never had a bass with a mud-bucker (or similar) in. Sometimes I wonder if a tele bass with a right-against-the-neck pickup or a Gibbo EB0 might be a worthwhile investment. Mind you, that Ovation does look rather snazzy..
  19. Ah - I missed you post! 4 individual coils? Interesting...
  20. Are they big hum buckers, or dual buckers or some sort of wide range jobs?
  21. I always wondered about the dining-table sized pickups in them and whether or not they actually sounded any good...
