1. Are you gigging? If not get a gig and worry about wasting time on extra strings later.
2. Are you gigging or playing at home?
3. EBS do lots of 4 ohm cabs with 15inch speakers. Neo and heavy. Just a thought.
4. Tis taking the piss a bit but you are earning nothing by not playing. Having said that if it was a function gig not finishing till 2am I would have told them to shove it but if its 2 45s in a bar why not.
5. Well if you are a sloppy thumb over kind of player like me it would get in the way. Is it being different for the sake of it?
6.
Ive been trying to find out the price of a Rick five string but no luck. any ideas?
Have they ever made one? They dont now.
7. sounds exactly like an intonation problem. There is s sticky on how to adjust it. Sounds like the saddle needs to be moved away from the neck but the best thing is to look at the sticky.
8. There was some bloke called Marcus who played on all the Luther Vandross stuff.
9. Dave, Slow down dude - you seem to be rushing from crisis to crisis losing money by the fistful along the way. You have enough gear to open your own shop there and still have not found sonic nirvana. You are selling this cos its not punchy enough yet are gonna get another Schroeder that are known to have a mid peak rather than punch. I think you need to take a step back, work out what you like and why, what you dont like and why, so you can sell what you dont like and get more of what you like. If you thought Schroeder was the way to go you would not have got the Epi.
10. Jeez WH - I hope you have some ear-plugs! Think of it like an old valve amp like Marshall, Hiwatt, Vox, Selmer etc. The tone controls did not have the effect of huge cut and boost like modern amps, and also had a subtle interaction that was difficult to suss if you tried to understand it rather than just using your ears.
11. Are you totally raving bonkers? No five string is worth that!!
12.
Moral: Unless it is undertaken by a fully qualified electrician, PAT testing is no more than a bureaucratic box-ticking exercise.
I thought everything these days was a bureaucratic box ticking - and we are the mugs paying for the tickers.
13. Any excuse..........................
14. f***ed if I know. Single cut Les Paul basses have also been around for years and I suppose even a T-bird could be described as a single cut. They dont usually join around the 12th fret though.
15. FIIK!
16. Anyone owned/tried both? Whats the difference (apart from 50 watts)?
17. Why not just make a ramp to go between the pups?
18. What is the point of getting stuff pinned eh? pinned thread on strings for fretless
19.
Someone say fretless? Here are my current favourites... Yet another opportunity to post a pic of my Gus G3 fretless which now has it's own page on the Gus site Pedulla Buzz about to be upgraded with an ACG filter pre-amp Lightwave Sabre A (I've also got a fretted neck for this although I can't see myself ever fitting it) And finally Squier VMJ Fretless modded with a J-Retro and Badass II. This is now somewhat surplus to requirements and may soon be up for sale. From never having played a fretless 2 years ago I've gone to this; and these days one of these basses gets used on most of the songs I play.
Interesting and esoteric selection there bud - that Lightwave looks like fun.
20.
Here's mine.... And A Wal Mk1 un-lined fretless with stained maple facings...
OMG - nearly had an accident. How can you play Spectors when you have that?
21. Who owns the PA? Anyway - back on topic. It depends how loud the drummer is but you are not gonna get a lot of watts and 4x10 for your budget unless you buy crap gear or get it used. If the drummer is an animal 2x10 probably wont be enough.
22. The fretless is the one without frets
23. Absolutely Fabulous. Thems big ole buckers on there as well. Must sound huge! Perfect choice of number of strings btw.
24. Had a good play with mine last night as I dont usually muck about too much with the tone controls and it does have a distinctive sound that seems to survive whatever you do with the tone controls. Mine is a fretless and I use half rounds and this obviously gives it a different sound to fretted and rounds, and with the huge range of the tone controls I got some pretty extreme sounds, but the fundamental tone is still there. You could try different strings and rip the frets out This was one reason why I got my second GB as far removed from a standard Spitfire as you can get, although some horny little devil keeps whispering "dark star" in my ear. Unfortunately Bernie has a low opinion of Rock, but I had to tell him it is a very large market
25. Somewhere M40 Oxford way would be OK - just not in Oxford itself. Some of us missed the South East bash so it would not be overkill for us but yes spring would be good. I dont think school holidays is such a good idea because people often take their family holidays during the school hols and non resident parents often also have their children in the school holidays.
