Never got on with the Hofners - seemed a bit primitave. Used my bass collection on saturday; first time for at least a year. Did not feel out-classed with 2 GB's for company. And they are very small bodied - thats why they weigh f*** all.

My GB P bass has a big rout so I can have the P pup either way round or replace with a darkstar or MM type if I want.

Its not really right to compare Squier to custom builds like Status or Shuker. Squier seem to be nice basses for the money and very popular amongst the financially constrained but I doubt anyone with the budget for a Shuker would buy a Squier instead.

Black/black/maple looks nearly as good as black/ebony with no scratchplate.

This has gone on for nearly two months so any thoughts I had about trying Genz Benz have long gone.

+1 for the ampeg B15 - a legendary peice of kit. Combo's dont have to be cheap and there are some good options out there like Eden Metro and SWR Redhead. Laney is cheap junk whether its a head/stack or combo so I would be inclined to wait until you can get something better.

Dont usually like fancy woods - makes a bass look too much like furniature - but that is cool. I think it is when the pattern is like you can see things in it that I like them.
