  1. Hi Nick, not sure if you’re seeing messages but I sent one yesterday...
  2. Agreed. It’s worse with vintage gear. People with Pre-cbs fenders are like people with a degree from Oxford or Cambridge - they’ll always signs some way to drop it into the conversation.
  3. I played there too 15 years ago. What a great festival and a beautiful place!
  4. Was going to mention Matt Berry. Great live too.
  5. All power to her. What she’s doing isn’t illegal, it’s fair game.
  6. I’ve got a few friends who play in surf bands and it’s amazing stuff. One of my fave bands is Man or Astroman.
  7. I’ve been playing for over 25 years, and this is the least I’ve ever played I think. In fact, despite spending thousands on a new bass I had barely played it. Thankfully, I’ve started recording with a new post-rock band and have become inspired again... Music is a collaborative endeavour and I miss the social side of it as well as the creative aspect. While the musical world seems to revolve around bedroom geniuses noodling at 300bpm, I’m still happier at a local jam session or watching a real band crank through a set, whether that’s jazz standards or a prog-rock concept album. I can’t wait for post lockdown gigs.
  8. Looks very cool. Would be interested too if not crazy expensive.
  9. I do that. In fact, I have a 1966 custom colour jazz I use with a Zoom B1 and Yamaha Session Cake. Seems like a good offer to me!
  10. I tried a few months ago and had no reply. Busy chap, I think.
  11. I’d recommend buying one used from the forum here from someone who has the bass set up. Buying online is a risk and every bass will need a setup. If you do want to buy new, then buy from a luthier or specialist shop that can do the set up for you. Playing a poorly set up DB isn’t just a challenge, if your technique is poor you could injure yourself. Buying cheap is a false economy.
  12. Wasn’t someone trying to get £500 for one on here? Madness for what’s likely to be an average bass,
  13. I think they common parlance is "Lawsuit Era" to make it sound as if the Yanks were prosecuting the Japanese for having the temerity to create guitars that were better than theirs, rather than the reality that they were legitimately attempting to protect their intellectual property.
  14. It’s fascinating isn’t it? 15 years ago I’d pay £500 for a precision and break it down for parts. Never had a decent one of that vintage.
  15. I found the Sire to be ok. But I’d recommend a Fender Player Jazz.
  16. It's very vintage sounding. Although I do have it stringed with D'Addario Flats which helps. I'd say that the output is much stronger than the 60s jazz basses I have owned (and still own). Personally, it's ideal for recording and live stuff. Again, it's the nicest jazz I have played and has transformed my view on the modern instruments they're making. It's actually the first ever new bass Ive bought. I'm not going to get into the vintage debate, but personally I can't justify the vintage price tag now when you get so much less for the money.
  17. Yes they’re wonderful basses. Mine is still my favourite bass out of a collection of over 10. It looks cool and sounds amazing.
  18. When fitting the neck someone has chipped the paint too. What a shame!
  19. Haha, no it was some books. Thankfully no cross-contamination.
  20. I once had a Hermes parcel conveniently left inside a dustbin nestled on top of a fresh heap of used nappies (thankfully in bags).
  21. Cost, economies of scale, a large enough market etc. Thomann can sell great basses at low prices because they buy in huge quantities. A smaller company simply wouldn’t be able to compete. To be honest, basses here are like guns in the USA. We’ve got more than enough already in circulation!
  22. That must have taken some serious force to break a neck. What the hell were they doing?!!
  23. I have a set of Thomann rounds you can have. They’re probably not great, but never used. Send me a PM.
  24. All these complex algorithms, programmes and AI and it’s a good old fashioned tip-off that’ll bring justice!
