  1. Agreed. It’s late 50s / early 60s stuff I need help with. When we get to 64 and onwards I’m fine. We do ask what they’d like to play, but obviously having a few prepared and ready is always good.
  2. You want onto Talkbass and someone patronised you with a reply? It happens. Move on. The internet is not the real world (thankfully).
  3. I’ve started running a music group for people in their 70s and 80s. We play through tracks, they bring instruments, it’s all good. We managed to run through some classic tracks (mostly folk stuff, but some Beach Boys, few Beatles, etc) yesterday but they’ve asked me to provide some structure (come with chord sheets, explain how songs work, and so on). While I can pretty much play anything from the Beatles onwards, I have limited knowledge of earlier stuff and traditional folk stuff (Dubliners, etc). Can I ask people to make some suggestions about songs that people of this age group might know? I can then build a list, get the resources sorted out and we can have some fun playing them.
  4. I dislike all three. Does that mean I have to relinquish my Basschat subscription?
  5. It’s all good, I didn’t want anyone to get upset as I’m sure you didn’t mean anything bad by it.
  6. If you’re worried about the bridge moving, you can use masking tape to show you where the feet should be. Obviously remove this as soon as possible! I still have the bridge markers on my aluminium bass as I’m lazy.
  7. Made me smile too. My last teacher said the difference between a pro and an amateur is confidence. The jazz guys knew what was going to be right, whereas most of the time, I'm just guessing. When you know, you know!
  8. This is the sort of thing that’s funny in person but doesn’t always translate well when written down.
  9. Amen brother, me too!
  10. Think we all know what they are. It’s where they are that matters!
  11. Got the tip from Gollihur! Helped me. It’s an approximation, but it should help! Also consider with a lower tension string you may need to adjust the action a bit. It’s no problem if you have an adjustable bridge, but something to consider. Also, picked up the SLB and getting used to it. Will message at some point if you still fancy giving it a try.
  12. Detune your existing Weichs to D G C F and you’ll replicate the tension of solos (when tuned to EADG).
  13. That’s the picture I saw! Looks amazing. We’re very lucky to have these.
  14. If each set costs (conservatively) £150, that’s over £6000 in strings! Fair play to him.
  15. They’re only high tension until broken in. Mine feel the same as rounds now. Personally, I wouldn’t use any other string.
  16. Id love to meet the person who owned it. Bet there’s a story there!
  17. I’ve come to the conclusion I won’t ever use this. Does anybody want it or have a use for it? Music charity I do stuff with Don’t need it (or want it!)
  18. I need this gone. Any reasonable offer accepted!
  19. Yeah they’re excellent aren’t they! I’m just starting doing some voluntary work and I may use this. We shall see.
  20. Yes it’s full size (34” scale). It’s light and the body is a good shape for someone younger. I’m assuming you’re not in Bristol, but if you are you’re welcome to come and try it and if it’s for a new starter I’ll find a load of useful stuff to chuck in (picks, lead, stand etc.)
  21. Sounds like incidental music from a driving game where you have to select a flashy car from the lineup.
  22. Im not having a go at you, you’re absolutely free to charge whatever you wish. The poster asked for advice and in my opinion, some of the values here are very high for average stuff. You really need to know what you’re buying…
  23. It’s a weird market. Some of the private sale prices on BC are higher than dealer prices with none of the benefits (new strings, ability to pay with a credit card, etc). As a reference, Bass Bros had a lovely 1976 Precision, all original with the case for £2500. Given their mark up must be 20%, I’d wait it out and see what you can find for around £2k.
  24. I got this bow a while back but it’s not used. I believe it’s a Hidersine bow, but can’t confirm. Only one hair slight adrift, all in all, a great entry-level French bow. I believe it’s 3/4 size, will measure tomorrow. Comes with rosin and delivery included for £45.
