Agreed. Nowadays you can split the fee I believe, which is sort of like insurance I guess.

Paypal won't intervene if you call it a gift, which is what most people do. I agree though, if possible it's always worth meeting in person. I wouldn't send a guitar or amplifier to someone I met through Gumtree. But that's just me being a bit old school.

If you like trying different pickup combinations or want to build your own bass but don't fanct getting handy with the soldering iron this could be for you! It's a solder-free jazz bass harness made with CTS pots and a switchcraft jack. It's a professional job bought for a project from a friend but never used. All works perfectly well and I'll chuck in the control plate, knobs and postage all for £35.

Here we have an original Fender Vintage 60s RI Road Worn Fender Jazz Neck + Tuners. This was made in Mexico and imported from the States (can provide all details to new buyer including serial number) at a cost of about £400 (including import duties). It was brought here pre-CITES. It's a beautiful neck that really does a wonderful job of replicating the classic pre-CBS Fenders. In fact, that's why I wanted it. However, I now have a Bravewood Jazz which fills that particular gap! It comes with the vintage, reverse tuners and has almost no wear to the frets. It's a vintage Road Worn Fender, so there are bumps and grazes to stimulate the wear you'd expect on a vintage Fender. The frets (as you can see) are in excellent shape, and hardly played. The truss rod works perfectly and is flush with the end of the neck. I've never needed to use it. Photos below, and the price is: £265. Spec Details: Official Fender '60s Reissue Road Worn Jazz Bass Neck & Tuners Maple with Rosewood fingerboard "C" Shape- 7.25" Radius 20 Vintage Frets Fender "Road Worn" relic treatment Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish

Most insurance companies won't quibble with you unless you're claiming for a high-value item. My insurance provider (More Than) ask me to specify and instruments worth over £1500, and to have all the details saved somewhere (serial numbers, any distinguishing marks and so on). This makes sense because, in the event of theft, we can both attempt to recover the items and the more information we both have, the better. If the insurance company pays out, the item then becomes their property, so there's certainly an interest for them in having this information. After having been the victim of a mis-sold item, it's just easier to get someone to sign a bit of paper. I'd say that if you have bought and sold through ebay or even Basschat, the messages and agreements will be enough to convince an insurance company who are only out to detect and deter fraud.

The bass market is probably a tenth of that of the Guitar market, so probably explains it a little. Upright bass strings a tenth of that again I’d estimate. How often do Guitar players change strings? Again the relationship is probably the same - 10 times as often as a bass player and 100 times more often than an upright player.

For 40 years in the music business, I reckon he's doing OK! Interesting interview, and he seems like a real gent to give up a load of his time and not bang on about his pedals (which has to be the reason whey he agreed).

I’d be interested in where you got these stats from.

That's true. We have it on in the office and it's pretty dull. I nearly hurled a stapler when I heard "Going for Gold" by Shed Seven. At least the old dinosaurs on Planet Rock wouldn't stoop that low.

When I was in a local pub (Forest of Dean) someone made a crack about shagging sheep, to which an old soak at the bar shouted: "We don't shag sheep, we rape outsiders." It was crude, but got the point across adequately.

Bit of a histrionic response there, but it is the internet so fair enough. I'll also counter that the majority of the music I listen to I already own in another format (I'm old enough to have bought cassettes, CDs and MP3s). How many more times does Paul McCartney need me to pay him £10 for Rubber Soul? But I take your point. I'd be happy to pay more for access to music through streaming services, and am sure I'll be asked too in the future. I also am completely aware that I'm a licensee of the content not an owner but I'm happy with that. Having been encumbered by a huge music collection in the past, I'm happier with the ability to enjoy the music without owning the artefact but would welcome a fairer split of the profits between content provider and platform.

On the flip side, a CD would cost me £15, now I have access to an almost limitless amount of music for £9.99 a month. Progress my friend!

I should point out this happened about 18 years ago, so I’m sure this was all reasonable then but sadly I can’t tutn back time. The shop Was (and indeed still is) known for being disreputable,

I thought this too. They flat out refused and told me to take them to court. I was about 20 and didn’t have the confidence or know how to do this, so I just took the loss and moved on. In the wider scheme of things it’s a lesson learned.

It's a tough one. When i t happened to me, the shop I bought it from said they had purchased it in good faith and that there was nothing they could do. So I lost the Eden amp and the cash. Hey ho. Since then I've always asked for a receipt. Nobody has refused!

I'm selling my Yamaha SLB100 with Fishman pickup because I'm looking for a slight change. This is acknowledged as one of the best options for an EUB, with the really fascinating frame providing a really realistic approximation of playing a double bass. The stock piezo pickup is OK, but one of the previous owners fitted a Fishman pickup which is fantastic and just helps to create a really great sound. The bass has been used (and owned by some Basschat royalty) but is in great condition and comes complete with the case too. You can see the general condition in the photos, but I'm happy to provide any additional images you may require. The bass packs down really neatly and can be stowed away in a cupboard, or left in a corner to be picked up when it needs to be. The SLB is a perfect bass for those wanting to practice, with a headphone jack and the ability to also use your own input (I used it for playing along with my iPad which was perfect!). I just need to create a bit of space in the house as we're having another baby. The bass is located in Bristol and I genuinely think it's going to be impossible to send, but I'm happy to meet up at a reasonable distance for you to check it out and do a deal. I'm interested in trades, so do let me know what you have. Finally, I'm looking for £1200 for the whole package, which is a steal given that the retail price new in the UK is somewhere near £4,000.

Yes, I agree. Always ask for a receipt with full details. I once had the misfortune to have purchased an amp that turned out to be stolen. The receipt was what stopped me from being arrested. It was a horrible situation.
