    Hey. How you liking the Eminence? Theyre difficult to compare but I would say that the Mk more accurately represents a DB. Better neck, full size bridge and a thicker soundboard. The Eminence is beautifully made and the acoustic nature of it more accurately represents the sound of a DB I reckon (but not by much!). Where the MK wins is the body shape that’s really very close to a proper DB, certainly more so than the Eminence and the SLB which is why I prefer it. It’s less portable than the Eminence however and obviously the neck can’t be removed for transport. It’s all personal preference of course, and the Eminence is a beautifully made instrument that is used by a whole host of professionals - they must know something! If you’re ever in Bristol let me know and you can come and give it a play.

    I've used these. Yes, they're pretty odd places (the one in Bristol is full of kids) but at £4p/h during the day it's hard to argue with the value.

    A band like this is never going to win on originality, but there’s one question you have to ask: Will the music get people dancing? The answer is yes. Thats a good enough metric for me.

    Take it to a local professional. If it's a Hawkes bass then it could have significant value, even after you spend money on restoration. The chances are, if the guy was a professional, the bass could have some value but the only person who would know is a pro!

    Makes total sense. Sorry if my reply came across as condescending, I didn’t mean it too. I don’t know the specifics here. I’ve had a few disagreements with people who want me to shop items I wasn’t prepared to and that’s clouded my view.

    The problem here appears that the buyer booked a courier based on your guess of what the parcel size would be. You can’t blame the seller for including sufficient padding and protection! I imagine he or she could have provided this, but by then the courier was booked... Having shipped a cab before I used about 3 inches of padding all round it to ensure it was protected. This made it bigger and more expensive so send, but it got there and was totally fine, so me and the buyer were both happy.

    This used to be mine and I can vouch that it's in virtually new condition. I used this once on an indoor jazz session (not a gig) and the rest of the time stayed in the house in the cover. It's a beautiful amp that sounds amazing, particularly for double bass, EUB etc.

    I think It’s a little off that the seller is confident enough to pack an item with the belief that it’ll be protected in transit, yet be unwilling to then send it. If it’s damaged in transit as a result of poor packing the liability would still be theirs. Personally, I avoid these adverts as soon as I see them. I’ve been buying, selling and sending basses for years but nowadays I think the sheer volume of items being sent and the cost-cutting nature of the industry means they’re more at-risk than ever, and so I avoid it wherever possible. The last bass I sent had the neck removed, which was much easier to send and secure too.

    That’s a real shame about the nut. It looks as if the original nut fitted has been removed (badly). It should be a simple fix for a good luthier. I have one of the jazz models and it’s wonderful.

    I've had two of these. The last one I sold to Phil Oakey of the Human League who used it for a tour. In fact, I think I sent his signed letter to someone on here. I sold that one for £750 about 10 years ago. This is a steal for what is likely to be a proper collectible of the future. I'd love to have another at some point in the future. Good luck with the sale, I'm sure someone will love this

    I’d also second this. I’ve recently bought an armful of PJB gear and it’s immense. The quality of reproduction is amazing. Even the 150 Flightcase isn’t loud enough for me, but it’s amazing at home and perfect for playing with acoustic instruments like a ukelele I’m sure.

    Sounds great! As someone who has worked the prog circuit for a few years you’ve really got this nailed on! Especially love the fretless vibe. Seems like you enjoyed it too. Something to enjoy!

    I had the same thing. Burglars came in and ignored two 70s Jazzes and a 60s one (candy apple red matching headstock), and a few 60s Fender guitars (Coronado and a 12 string acoustic) and instead they took the Xbox and an armful of DVDs.

    I'm sure someone will be along to explain how the variation in temperature can cause your neck to warp and the pickups to turn into cheese, but a few days should be fine (as long as it's not a double bass!).

    I think they make a huge amount of money on the Squiers. So many people start playing but give up, they’re probably selling squiers at a ration of 5 - 1 to US Strats.
