  1. Snap! In all fairness, the best sounding jazz bass I’ve ever heard has one. It also has high output vintage pickups and is strung with chromes. I wanted something that would be ideal for jazz, blues and funk and this is, but I’m pretty sure the bridge has little to do with that!
  2. I agree to a point. And I love a British eccentric. The issue here is that he’s knocking out cheap basses at double the price to unsuspecting people (probably parents) who know no better. Personally I think that’s a bit off. Im sure he’s a lovely chap and I wish him all the best. I just hope that anyone starting out on bass doesn’t end up with this nonsense on Christmas Day and instead gets a brand new, clean and healthy HB.
  3. Very little. If people pretend they can tell the difference I wouldn’t believe them. The upgrade can be made in a few seconds and won’t cost you much. (Other opinions may exist)
  4. Just played on this for 2 hours and it’s a game changer for home practice. I’ve never heard a set of headphones this good for guitar and bass. Blown me away a bit.
  5. I bought one. Amazing piece of kit. The popularity of this will accelerate the development of other products from Behringer and the like. I too was worried about the battery as a sealed unit, but the lifespan for these is likely to be less than a decade, and so for that I think it's OK. I bought the guitar version as I'm back to playing the thin stringer, but it works flawlessly for bass too. I'm yet to try it on the EUB, that's tomorrow's experiment!
  6. it seems strange you’d stick so rigidly to orthodoxy on electric bass then use one finger per note on DB which isn’t just poor technique but potentially damaging too. Personally, I’ve always done one finger per string when playing scales etc, bjt tend to focus on what’s better for the situation when playing live.
  7. I’ve had all these and the MK bass should be on the list too. It’s a handmade instrument that’s of incredible quality.
  8. Regardless of your views on his creations (and having the gall to charge double the retail for a butchered HB bass) you have to applaud him for how much effort he puts into his listings. Videos and descriptions are all pretty good!
  9. Fishman Platinum Pro EQ/DI Analog Preamp - as new. Lovely acoustic pre amp. Unused as I now have an AER amp. It’s in mint condition with the plastic on the display. I’ve added Velcro to the bottom to fix to a pedal board.
  10. Still here taking up space and not being used to play AC/DC
  11. It’s the internet. Good intentions ruined by arguments over nonsense. I wouldn’t worry about it, just cherish the memories!
  12. they are u til you’re kids start whacking them. My wife said “it’s already covered in scratches and dents…” (it’s a 1966 candy apple red jazz). If I died tomorrow she’d accept £200 for it I reckon.
  13. It’s a purely speculative investment as older instruments have no intrinsic value. I recently bought a 1971 Martin DR35. It’s a beautiful guitar that’s opened up wonderfully, and still about £300 cheaper than buying a new one. Will it increase in value? Possibly. Will I play it and love it for the next 40 years… I hope so.
  14. Bump for a truly lovely bass.
  15. It’s often because they’re forced to do it. As a a child who was made to play cricket and go sailing (in ice cold water!) I know what that feels like. I found music was something I did alone and love it for that.
  16. Music isn’t a competition. Just enjoy what you do, and all will be OK. So many musicians make their cash posting videos on YouTube, but that’s not what music is all about. Played a blues jam a few weeks ago (and I normally hate blues jams) and it was great. Players of all ages and abilities with a packed pub and an appreciative audience. I’m sure a wunderkind knocking out fusion solos in their bedroom makes business sense, but it’s pretty far removed from actual music making.
  17. Yes, I think you’re right.
  18. I've now reduced this to £285, which is well good. I just need it gone as I've spent *cough* Lots on a new guitar.
  19. I may have to start playing 5 string again if this doesn't sell... I have used the cardboard box o send another bass, but I have a hard case I'll include for an additional £35. So you get a £1000 bass, £60 strings and £35 case all for £635? Err yes.
  20. Levine jazz book sold (good one that!)
  21. A soon-to-arrive set Waza Air means these great phones are up for grabs. These are supposedly designed for bass, and they are the best I’ve used (score the Waza air, but they’re 6 times as expensive…) They’re in excellent condition with very little use at home. The headphones are in excellent condition (I won’t say perfect or mint, but you get the idea). The box itself is a little damaged and the instruction manual has gone. It comes with the phones, the cable and the adaptor. Yours for £45!
