1. Overwater available across the UK 10:15, Jan 17th 2008 New Perception series to be stocked by leading retailers. Overwater has introduced a new series of mid-priced ‘off the peg’ basses, which are making their appearance in music shops across the UK. The instruments have been played by many professional and serious amateur players for over 25 years, yet have remained relatively exclusive, with only a very limited number of retailers stocking them and, until recently, most were built to order. This new production series of Overwater Perception basses is the result of a joint venture between Overwater’s Chris May and Pavel Bures, formerly a luthier for Warwick, Tobias and Steinberger. Constructed in a purpose-built facility in the Czech Republic, the Perceptions – designed by long time Overwater luthier, Haydn Williams and Chris May – are then shipped to the UK, where each one is finished and set-up by the same team that produces Overwater’s custom instruments. May will oversee both stages of the process. Overwater Perceptions are available as four, five and six-string models, in Pro Deluxe, Standard Deluxe and Standard Deluxe Plus versions. The Standard Deluxe models feature three-piece bolt-on Maple necks, Mahogany or Walnut bodies with exotic wood tops, Overwater pickups, two-band EQ and a Hipshot style A bridge. They are available in four, five and six-string versions and will sell for £1,395, £1,495 and £1,695 respectively. The Standard Deluxe Plus models, meanwhile, feature more highly figured tops, three-band EQ, a Hipshot Style B bridge and will sell for £1,595, £1,695 and £1,795. Top of the Perception range is the Pro Deluxe, which sports a sleeker body style and five-piece Maple and Walnut bolt-on neck, individually selected facings and three-band EQ. It also features Overwater dual-coil pickups and a genuine machined Overwater bridge. Perception Pro Deluxe basses will sell for £1,985, £2,085 and £2,175. Overwater’s Chris May commented: “The Perceptions are made in a small, well appointed factory, building exactly the same instruments in exactly the same way we do in the UK, overseen by someone who has worked here building our custom instruments and with my full involvement.” Overwater Perception basses are available immediately from leading retailers.

 6.
I find it surprising that someone will pay hundreds of pounds for a bass (thousands sometimes), and hundreds for an amp etc, then stick some cheap strings on it, you can get Elites or D'adario for about £13, and Rotosounds are only £10 from Stringbusters. At least by buying from a 'known' manufacturer you stand a chance of not having to send them back.
Well said....... some players do the same with Cables...... £1000+ on an instrument and £5 on a cable...... go figure?
 7.
What's that in good ol' £ sterling?
at the current crappy rate....£385.00
 8.
Hi All, Have been trying to get hold of Mike at The Bass Merchant for a while to check on progress of the Cabs he is building for me. They were supposed to be ready before Xmas. Have sent 3 e-mails that have not had a reply and tried to phone a couple of times and keep getting the answering machine. Anyone able to shed any light on the situation down there? Cheers, Stuart
He may very well be in the states at the mo....
 9. The audience doesn't care...... but then again equipment is better made and less expensive these days anyway. We totted up the value of gear on stage last week..... £75k..... would the audience know it was worth that?? would they care...... nope!

 12.
Ok This is one of the Older models...not sure how old. The pre-shape button gets stuck...so sometimes stays in or sometimes stays stuck out.. The master volume pot has a little bit of a crackle... apparently 2ohms [600 watts] It is a loud amp... I have used this as a back up with 2x 4 ohm Yamaha cabinets.no problems. A good service would sort out the crackles etc. Can be tried out and tested here...no problems with that. Does not include the case... so £80.00..... Garry
PM Sent
 13. I still dig 'When Doves Cry' by Prince...... and upbeat production number with no bass at all!!
 14. Stage direction is a big part of it..... I play in three bands..... two of which are playing functions.... one band is pure funk/disco the other is more party type music.... but for both we have stage direction. Both bands are upbeat and the aim is to keep people on the dance floor all night.... and we do..... it's very important and it keeps the punters very happy and thats what its all about really.... If your being hired in by a large corporation to play at their summer ball or xmas celebration then they want to make sure they are gonna have a good party. Nothing worse than having a band stop after every song..... try extending songs.... try medley's .... just keep the people on the dance floor and you'll be guaranteed a re-book.

 18.
At the risk of appearing completely ignorant, who's Mark King?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
 19.
Simple question really Just wondering if many of you sing backing vocals (either in your current band, or in general) I've been dabbling recently with the hope that it'll improve my employability as a live session bass player, for tours etc. But...is it necessary? Cheers guys! Danny
I wouldn't say it was necessary but it does go a long way on your cv...... I think I have had more success with tours because of this..... One thing I will say is that It's definitely beneficial for you to practice singing while playing. You eventually get to a point where your hands just know what to do and you find yourself not 'thinking' as such about what your playing Jay

 23.
Yamaha P5000 / P7000 for a very good workshorse with loads of functionality. Highly recommended Powersoft / all models for superlightweight and very loud ;o) - bit pricey in comparison, but you do get what you pay for.. the very best - most of the range come in a 1u rack, from 700W up to the K20's 5000W RMS per channel ;OD. My award for UK's best kept secret? http://www.bkelec.com/Pro/Amplifiers/MXF1200D.htm
+ 1 for the Powersoft K10!!!!
