1. <sigh> Ho hum. It is fine down to open D and then it struggles bigly. Air coming out of the perforated surround and through the speaker mounting holes. The only saving grace here is that I have enough MDF to make 3 more rings. Is gaffa going to repair the perforated surround?
  2. So, many months later I actually managed to get cracking with a jigsaw. There are good reasons why I am not left alone with power tools It went in eventually. I got the right sized screws for the thread in the GK baffle, but of course they were holding onto the baffle and not the nut on the other side. To make it worse I got self locking nuts so they were a but trickier to get on. Eventually I drilled the thread off the GK baffle as I could not get the nut tight enough on the other side. I had decided to use Tee Nuts to hold the speaker in place but then realised that drilling the home made baffle out for these left a hefty gap in the wood I then managed to bolt the speaker in with the spade connectors to far away from the cables to connect and then the crowning glory was when I put the drill/screwdriver through the cone It was not a great moment. It is all bolted together at the moment but I have not had a chance to plug it in due to being late finishing last night and my usual Sunday morning resicdency gig. My gut feeling is that I will need to make a new spacer ring come what may. This is if the speaker will actually work without distorting. Can I repair this kind of damage to the cone? As I mentioned, there is a good reason I am not left alone with power tools
  3. Phew. 1. Because it looks lovely and deserves to be used. 2. Because I was close to buying it even though I have no possible use for it. I have no need of another Precision in my life
  4. Would that take a standard P scratchplate? I know that none is needed due to the rear routing, but..... aesthestics and stuff
  5. This makes me fancy picking up a cheap and cheerful 2nd hand SWR.
  6.
For that amount of money, you could buy six old bangers and drive them all to the Nurburgring ...
Does that include fuel and breakdown cover?
  7. Casual bump. I am in no specific hurry to sell, but when the time is right, the time is right.
  8. There was a time in my life when I was in a situation where backline was provided. Lots of SVT rigs. Great when it was plug and play. Horrific when I had to set them up. A flightcased SVT head went straight to the bottom of my list of things I wanted after lifting one. What was really interesting was that in one venue the head was dead so they found a spare PA side fill and put me through that and I discovered an extra octave of LF that was just not there with the SVT the night before. Obviously this could have been for all sorts of reasons (acoustics, EQ etc) but it killed my SVT lust stone dead. I still have large stacks of speaker lust, but that is a different thing.
  9.
When I say metalflake I mean the deep translucent lacquer finish that allows for large gold flake to be used for maximum scatter. None of your flat tat finishes, oh no.
That's the stuff!
  10. That is very lovely.

  12.
It's not a stupid idea, and it's something I've looked into myself (I have a Connex amp module and SMPS that I picked up a couple of years ago waiting to be put to use). But to be really effective for bass amp use you would need to sort out cooling fans and some sort of limiter, and ideally an HPF on the input too. And the price works out at a point where you could pick up a fairly nice rack power amp secondhand.
Yeah, I guess that making it all up will tot up the price. They have some plate amps which come all set up. I have tried one on a BF FR and it certainly delivered.
Alien did that for another BassChatter and the results were very good. It was a while ago and I've certainly thought about doing that with one of their latest gen amplifiers that from a geek perspective are ace!
I remember that amp and it is what was kind of making me think out loud. The Hypex PSC2.400 which features 4 fully programmable DSP memories are 275 Euros excl Vat. They are discontinued. Someone tell me why I should not do this.

wo 400W UcD amplifiers
Powered by SMPS400
Four programmable presets
Balanced audio input
Balanced audio through loop
Powercon power connection
Two channel active filtering
Fully user-configurable DSP filters
Firmware update by USB
13.

Metalflake gold body

YEEEEESSSSSSSS! Don't get me wrong, the other stuff is all well and good but metalflake is proper lush. Tell me it will have a matching headstock! Please!
  14. Twin strap buttons on the bottom. Some day all basses will be like this (apart from offset ones, obvioulsy).
  15. I will take that as a no then. I am genuinely interested in whether this is a stupid idea or not.
  16.
I'm very aware! What's the scale length?
Imagine reading a post about an item you want to sell and then forgetting to answer. The scale length is 22 3/4 inches. Thanks.
That is truly lovely. GLWTS.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
  17. I had to step outside and have a word with myself about the fact that I do not play 4 strings because I was very close to buying this!
  18.
I bought it for a rack rig idea that I kind of lost interest in. Don't judge me, we've all done it.
Aint that the truth!
  19. Trades? What, like a Lull PT4? Not really thinking of trades, but thanks for asking. I have come to the unexpected position of having all I want. I never thought I would see the day. It is Walnut burl. IIRC!
  20.
Here. Here's your solution. http://youtu.be/HV66fWWzs2c
I am not generally a fan of the metal Balalika scene, but that is kind of floating my boat.
  21.
Seriously thinking about this...
Want it you know you do.
  22. If one of the BCers who are handy with a soldering iron were to bodge a Hypex module into a 1U box we would all buy one. Obviously I have no idea what I am talking about, but the idea is lovely.

    Lull T4

It is a PT4. I could be very happy with a PT5 like that.
  24. £650 Pete made me this 5 string Bass Uke some time ago. It is a thing of joy but I am just not using it qand could usefully put the money into a bass guitar I am having extensive work done on at the moment. Pete has said that he will never make another. It is tuned BEADG. I would like £900 for it. I am happy to courier at cost. Yes, the shiny things on the neck are LEDs. Everyone needs a bit of glamour now and again. It has the one vol knob and a tone control on the control plate that needs a screwdriver. It seemed a shame to put more knobs on the front than needed. It has all the hallmarks of a Howlett but with lower notes. It has a Fishman piezo and an East Piezo buffer pre. It sounds like this https://soundcloud.c...ns/howlett-demo Here are some other examples of his work https://www.google.c...YnZAywQ_AUICSgE
