Mine is a shade over 4kg, I use a luggage scale. I have to throw some praise here too.. I have whittled my collection down to 7 basses now, and I can see I have 5 basses i can never sell. The quality of these, the playability, the tone ahh.. This is my 'PJ' of choice, and is my desert island bass for sure and the only bass tone complement i ever got..GLWS -

Why? integrity perhaps

I should imagine the guy making them is exposed to the required sample size of all variations. I would take a pro luthier at his word. He is showing the difference tonewoods make to his basses. If there were so much variation between the other factors, i'm sure he wouldn't bother..

I'm no Luthier, so no idea if other factors are at stake, but Sander DeGier did a great tonewood comparison here. There is definitely a difference in tone between these three Soulmates...

I have a Dave Hall VT1 and my local store has Blackstar U250 ACT active cabinet. I wonder if that would be an interesting como? Anyone have any experience with active or powered cabs? -

Cool, i have one of these for considerate practice, and find it great also, but have never paired with a pre amp.. i just plug straight in. If i can get away with it though, i do prefer playing headphone free -

Hi Folks, Some opinions please on good home practice, or home noodling amp set ups with a great tone.. This set up will be purely for the enjoyment and maybe home recording if i finally get round to it. I guess it's vintage leanings where i play P basses with a bit of tone roll off usually, jazz bass, a bunch of vintage basses including a stingray.. Low power, great tone and tubes is what i'm thinking Can't see me going vintage B15 or Trinity trip top.. £££££££ I am looking at the Ashdown CTM 30 with a 15" or maybe an Ampeg PF20t with the matching cab.. Anyone have experience with either these or another suggestion? Cheers Jay

Hi just wondered if anyone has experience with my small issue.. i recently built a sizable pedal board with two power bricks and a Buzz electronics 12 ch looper. I ordered the looper with 4 loops after the pre amp allowing me to run my modulations effects (including the MXR) through the effects loop of the amp.. happy days Since i did this, the MXR phase 90 has lost quite a bit of volume (was always great, if anything giving a little boost before).. Any one have any insight here as to why? Cheers jay

Not impressed with the Diamond or SDSB then? In the market for a new compressor too, so just curious.

Oh man, this one is hard for me to admit to myself, but i spent a heap of cash on a new Mesa Strategy eight 88 and a 4X12 Powerhouse because i considered it the best i could buy, and considering I live in Norway where import costs are colossal… It's heavy but it sounds great. I now realise there are plenty of great amps at a fraction of the cost and weight... 2 years after i got it it blew up... smoke.. drama.. the whole deal. Mesa in California could not have cared less. Their support for customers out side of the US is appauling. I had to deal with (via the shop that sold it to me) a Finnish distributor who also couldn't care less. I returned the amp for repair.. It took 6 months!!.. got it back and blew up again after 40 mins.. more smoke and more drama. Lots more couldn't care lessness later i got it back. It was by this time 12 months after the original failure. The fix involved replacing pre amp tubes and other components that resulted in a loss of power… God i could cry.. But the upside is, i still have it.. it does sound bloody amazing.. and it's so ridiculously powerfull that the reduction in power is meaningless. For a valve head, it doesn't break up nicely though... i've been a fool
