So the other thing you can do is separate you practic rig from your gig rig. I have a head and cab that mainly stays at home unless it's for playing out obviously, and for when the wife goes out to make noise! For practice we are in our drummers garage and practice at low volume as it's at night, kids sleeping etc. And for that I have a Hartke HD25 combo. It does the job to arrange songs and then showtime for the bigger stuff. It's always a consideration

Cato - SB-2's are nice basses for sure, and pack a lot of punch and bite. So far as tribbies go in general the necks are a littl thicker on the L series, so just check on the SB's what they are like, but they are definitely quality instruments. Considering you use a Jazz bass already I'm interested in tonally what you are looking at (no disrespect meant in the question). The G&L Jazz basses are different to other Jazz's with G&L's pick ups being just awesome. There is the JB and the MJ which is wired and wound differently and is noise cancelling compared to the JB. If its more of a passive P sound, but modern and aggressive then the SB-1 may be a good compliment on its own without the J element. If its traditional P, then LB-100 is your go to. Whatever you decide, G&L is the way forward

Can't believe no one has put G&L in the mix, awesome basses, well within the price range for a custom build choosing colours, neck etc. And really good second hand prices. JB series and the MJ series for a different flavour but still a Jazz

Man, that is majorly poor, sorry to hear that. All good things come to those who wait, if I were you I would be pushing for a sneaky set of extra strings or something. Fingers crossed it pans out and can't wait for the real photos
