  1. I suppose a refin is like Bass cosmetic surgery. Trying to make mutton look like lamb
  2. But there is the crux of the matter - we all impart a ‘soul’ onto our machines because we love our basses, and there is a story they can tell possibly, or possibly not, but they are inanimate objects, and not living. Is a bass that was natural, but then asked its owner to get it finished blue, and then asked again to get it finished red fake? I honestly don’t think anyone with a relic bass is saying “Hey look at me, I played the bejesus out of this” it’s more likely someone watching them play it who does not know them presumes that is what they are conveying. If anyone takes some 0000 wire wool to their neck to smooth it out to make it more playable conveying a fake amount of play time to wear it down, or is that allowed and fair play? Its like assuming all young people wearing hoodies with the hoods up are up to no good. I presume people with turdburst are trying to convey a story that they wipe their behind with their bass every day to get that effect - I may or may not be wrong. Some relic’s I like, some I don’t, some of the myriad of other finishes I like, some I don’t - tis quite simple
  3. Isn’t technically any finish apart from natural fake news? Why are you hiding the wood and it’s grain? Surely a relic to let the wood show is less fake as you can see what lies underneath?! We all know many manufacturers sometimes use the poorest woods in a block or finished bass to cover over this fact, or the 25 pieces they have bodged together with some blu tack and Prit stick
  4. I get you about spending money as you see fit etc. But in the case of a Sandberg the relic’s basses are potentially better depending on your point of view as they have heat, vibration etc
  5. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on finishes, that’s cool. Broadly speaking, they that don’t like a relic finish, don’t seem to mind one which has ‘earnt’ its relic with natural wear. Lets take classic basses out the equation - you have 2 identical models up for sale second hand let’s say about 10 years old - 1 home use only, looking as it did from the shop, the other patina’d and mojo’d to the max - but not abused, and well looked after electronics, frets everything etc. Should there be a price differential? Would those that like an earned mojo try to knock money off for wear and tear?
  6. Or get an actual dual amp/ bi-amp amp head. All the sound - 1 box
  7. Yep, it’s still a thing. I like it, and they are around. Its just a finish, not sure why there is so much ire about it especially whilst turdburst still lives on, it’s not pretending to be anything, unless we also think burst is deliberately trying to look like the Bristol Stool Chart
  8. Loved the blowtorch!!!
  9. Thanks for your kind words. In my mind it was a no brainer - the bodies were so cheap that if I messed it up it meant nothing and I can use them for firewood! Still might have to, electronics next. Planned for this is a Creamery ‘58 pick up with Tonestyler
  10. Or it could become my trademark....
  11. This is how it came from the factory, I think from over zealous sanding! i quite like it, almost as if The Wolverine himself got hold of the bass!
  12. Nice work buddy Big thumbs up from me up the M4 corridor bravo
  13. Rhythm section is a rhythm section for a reason, bass and drums - gotta lock
  14. Cheers old boy
  15. cherry neck with birds eye maple board to finish
  16. Straight tru oil finish
  17. So this bass the guy who owned it said the neck he pulled off it was a 78 Fender, body had a crack and he didn’t know what to do so I managed to get it for postage cost only - I have no idea what it is, but at that price, who cares?! Looks like grandma’s furniture dowel drilled, glued and clamped sanded back and a bit of torching to bring out the grain
  18. So I took the plunge Into having a go. Jazz was a swap Ash factory second which has been abused with their sander and seemed unsellable so I picked it up for very little cost. bit of sanding TLC and a blowtorch stain with tea then with wire wool soaked in vinegar finish with Gun oil Quite happy for a first job. Black hardware and a maple neck and SJB quarter pounders to be added, will see if it sounds OK and will post up the finished article
  19. And I clicked on on this thinking I could talk rugby.....
  20. 🤦🏾‍♂️ to myself......I meant to say in the like/haha button area, butbthats just me being lazy i’ll Get my coat......
  21. @ped Mods - can we please have a face palm or dad joke emoji added - it would be the most used one
  22. And that Peter crouch is not great in the air at all. Point 4 as Bill points out is a loaded dice - if the vast majority of manufacturers use that template, then that’s what you have to choose from, so that can be scrapped. And don’t get bogged down in Binary thoughts and paper spec sheets.
  23. That’s great that is - nice score - I love Bass CPR
  24. @Bill Fitzmaurice exactly, and wasn’t he something like round 6 199th overall draft pick? All those teams, Too much time spent looking at combine stats and specs - classic example is Case Keenam at my beloved Texans - three for a million yards in college - but of course it was in a poorer lower college division, plus he had an awesome wide receiver artificially inflating his figures! Case proven me thinks and good luck to Tom - a freak in the finest way
  25. @Bill Fitzmaurice thanks for that, it’s complete common sense. Some dogma, is just that, dogma - not looking at actually what is possible, or just believing ‘that’s the way it is’ Usain Bolt was initially told he is too tall and has the wrong frame, legs (cones) too big to run 100m. Michael johnson told his style and his stride was too small and choppy (small cones) to run 2 and 400m and look what they did
