1. Depends entirely on what sort of sound you are looking for.
2.
That is a positive thing
Definitely. The Gibson style bridge is a nightmare.
3.
Protium, Sorry, you misread my note. The web advice in the book I'm recommending is crap - it says "don't list your gigs on your website, if you feel you must have one, as rival bands will get ideas for places to play" and crap like that. I'm a total, and very vocal, advocate of both websites and Myspace .. Check the link from my sig
Woops totally misread, sorry
4.
Short sharp pumps are the key to filling properly rather than a long pump and always hold the butane upside down. I get much longer than 5 mins soldering time.
Will try this. They say to have the butane upside down and 10 seconds should fill the iron for about 80 minutes soldering time...
5. How do you fill them properly? I've got this Bernzomatic iron and following their filling instructions I get liquid butane everywhere and only about 5 minutes soldering time?
6.
Get a copy of this absolutely excellent book/ebook on how to do it, and then how to get booked back. It will be the best £15 you've ever spent on anything to do with your playing, no question. http://www.gig-getter.co.uk/indextest.htm Don't be put off by the marketing. Oh and the Web advice is a bit crap but the "personal approach" to pubs bit is right on the money.
A decent myspace (done properly not cluttered up with pics, slideshows, top 8000 friends etc) - you can have everything on one page, music plays while they read your bio, dead easy to navigate, dead easy for people to get in contact, massive online network with other bands/fans etc, and it's FREE! Doesn't seem too crap to me
7. Daft question but are you sure it's the machine heads? Have you tried tightening them, checked its not the strings, etc.
8. Hi, we are MouthBreather: http://www.myspace.com/mouthbreathermp3 We play a pretty diverse mix of rock and metal with some funk and jazz influences mixed in. We're playing the Doghouse V3 (now "Underground") in Runcorn old town on the 26th Sept and 9th Oct if you wana check us out... Rich
9. Have a demo CD of 2 or 3 tracks with your contact details included. Go to pubs and ask if they are looking for bands, leave a CD with the landlord etc. Have a decent myspace that is checked and kept up to date regularly. And just the right amounts of persistence and patience
10. Got it already, but would like another one to go with it

13. BUMP BUMP, Out From Animals are a top band if you live local it's gona be a great show
14.
BIG +1! Then also the ones that bring their own sh*tty little crackly practice combo, see that you've got something that's actually SUITABLE and expect to plug into yours.
There was one gig the bassist was sound and didn't give me any trouble at all but when I'm setting up the amp for him the guitarist comes over: "Who the f*** are you?" - one of these pretentious 16 year old metal heads with an iron maiden vest on. I asked him if he thought his dean headstock would be comfortable when shoved 2 foot up his colon.
15.
Mmmm - that'll be lots of money thrown at marketing those 'brands' working then... - I've always thought they only advertise Nescafe cos it tastes like sh*t... same for Ws and AD IMHO. M
I've never seen an Ashdown ad, and can't comment on the taste I'm afraid...
16.
I'm getting really fed up of every gig I play having at least one bassist with an Ashdown Amp and a Warwick bass.
I've never seen anyone round here play a Warwick or an Ashdown (apart from when they've lent mine and a 5:15 combo)... Another peeve - bassists who turn up at a gig expecting someone else to have an amp they can use and the ones who f***ing moan at me because I wana set up the VU meter right so they dont blow the preamp... "Play as loud as you are going to during the gig" "HUH? What for?" I don't have to let you use my amp you little sh*t.
17. Fancy expensive wood, e.g. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA flamed maple top, $300000 extra.
18.
I went in there a while back and they had a second hand, battered fender jazz(mim) on sale for 300quid which i thought was way too much, considering back alley sell new ones for 359,anyway i am sure they have shut down now!!!!
IMO Back Alley is well overpriced too.
19. http://www.myspace.com/mouthbreathermp3 Rock/Metal Runcorn/Chester/Warrington/Liverpool etc Headline or main support Usual set is about 45 mins
20.
I was going to ask the same question. I have an ABM300 EVO-II GTi Turbo () and have stood front of house while another band's bass player has used it DI'd and I thought it sounded alright meself
Same here, maybe it's the sound guys settings?
21. Everyone should own a Big Muff at some point...
22. Yeah customs have their own exchange rate, conveniently priced to suit their pockets. They'll also charge VAT on the shipping cost which I think is a bit bogus seeing as the international part has nothing to do with them what so ever.
23.
Allparts/Mighty Mite licensed necks regularly appear on eBay, I got a Mighty Mite ebonal fretless for a lot less than Allparts/WD were asking.
+1, I found my MM licenced Jazz neck brand new for £50
24. I normally leave the button in the out position, but I still don't know which way round the pre/post EQ is... Do you?
25. Dillinger Escape Plan - Horse Hunter (the outro is awesome)
