I've noticed that plectrum catches the strings on upstroke when alternate picking today, particularly when muting. I've not practised much the last few months with getting married and all so this feels like a huge step back and a basic skill to lose! Anyone else had this?

@LouieMI didn't mean that it just plays the string, I meant that it gets caught under the sting. It's something I need to work on while muting, it keeps tripping me up.

Tense moments replacing the volume and tone knobs on my VM 70's Jazz. No screw, so deciding whether to yank the things off was a real palm-sweater. Looks champion now.

It's such a small thing, but I really want to put black knobs on my VM 70's Jazz. The chromed ones are nice, but there's something about those black plastic ones!

Properly craving a short-scale at the moment. All it took was for me to pick one up at Northern Guitars in Leeds. Didn't even properly play it!

I moved over to short scales last year after a damaged nerve in my wrist made playing standard scale basses increasingly uncomfortable. I've never looked back, short scales are the future! Whenever I pick up one of my 34" scale basses it just feels cumbersome now! I'm also a short ar5e so they don't look daft on me either

There's a buzzing / rattling somewhere on my Squier VM Jazz neck. I don't think it was there before adding a high mass bridge and pretty sure it's happening at the nut on the A string... Anyone had this sort of thing before?

Maybe the action is too low after installing the new bridge, or maybe the neck has back-bow.
Try to raise the action bit-by-bit to see if that stops it.
If it doesn't, 'eye' down the neck to see if it looks like it bows. If it does, adjust the truss-rod (carefully!) or get the bass set up professionally.
Good luck!

Taking the pickguard off my VM Jazz and was just thinking how nice it would be without one at all... then discover the big hole in the body underneath! 😆

@neilp The fretless one came without a pickguard originally, so the routing for the neck pickup was clean.

Buying a decent strap is harder than I thought. Most of the 'big' sites don't specify the width or padding, and there's so much tacky branded garbage out there that it's a pain to filter through everything!
