Oh, and relic the body, not everyones cup o tea, but it's mine, with potential for really screwing it up...….I poured a glass o red and cracked on………not too bad for a first attempt…..
2. Anyroadup, more progress today, left the body on a clothes airer near a radiator overnight so it would warm up a bit when the heating kicked in, stuck half a can of Halfords Satin Black in a sink of warm water, then at 0700 dressed only in a dressing gown, I stepped onto the deck, 5 mins later the body was sprayed, and I was bloody cold, back into the warm (Bass) body back near the radiator to bake the paint. Cup o tea, then relic-ed the neck. Later gave all the chrome a going over with wet n dry and wire wool to dull it down a bit. After tea reassembled.....need to open up the holes in the control plate tomorrow then fit the pots and wire everything ready for the pup when it gets here from Spain..... Happy Days!

5. I really like the Dusty Hill signature bass, its a Fender Custom Shoppe and the RRP is about £3.5k, to be fair as much as I like it and guitar boutiques sell em for about £2.5k, I wouldn't part with that many Red Wine/pie/cake tokens, I have a figure to maintain, in fact I think £350 would do, but I digress... I could build one, not a slavish replica, but something INSPIRED by the bearded one......so, I started searching for parts, a reverse head bass neck is a rare beast indeed, in fact Unicorn horn, secured with unobtainium would be easier......especially as I have a penchant for the narrower Jazz neck....... OK so I put out feelers for a Left hand Jass Bass neck and eventually am offered a Southpaw neck from a Harley Benton Jazzer here on Basschat......woohoo! I'm in business! A 51 P Bass body from an ebay manufacturer in Italy is puchased... A 2 saddle bridge and chrome control plate from across the pond...... Tuners are in the parts box, along with a Jack plate A hand wound vintage stylee pickup from Spain..... Some parts arrived today and tonight the pink one is on night shifts.... cue Hammer House of Horror sound effects, the kitchen will be a bomb site! This is the Dusty Hill Signature Bass This is as far as I got tonight, a dry run fit of parts after modding the headstock to Tele shape, sealing the sanded area with satin water based varnish (!) and applying a moody "F" decal.......the Body is outstandigly good quality, the Harley Benton neck really isnt bad at all but although the tuners fit, they were crooked and needed all the screw holes filling and redrilling, however the neck to body holes lined up perfectly.......I did have to square off the heel of the neck though to match the pocket.....heres close of play...... Black paint tomorrow!..........

8. Little dab of hot glue, flexible enough to peel off if you need to...
9. Hi folks! Does anyone know the size of the 51 P Bass pickup rout size please, will a Strat size single coil fit in the rout? (I'm not going to I just need to know the size)…….. Cheers! Paul
10.
I like this build very much
Me too! Something to aspire to Andy? Just kidding!
11. Looks fab, but will it balance on a strap? Looks like it could be neck heavy? Looking forward to the build, looks cool....
12. Ah, ignore me then....edited.....
13. I'm going to do something similar soon, so I'd appreciate it if you could share dimensions and method please.......great project!

16. Lee answered my wanted ad and supplied a neck, which was as described, well packed and in good time, thanks Lee!
17. In the case of the EB-0 the ply is cherry paint where the mahogamy is a more see throught cherry lacquer that you can see the grain through
18. Thanks Bart! 51 P is thru body strung, which will add about 1 1/2 inches.......might have to stick a 4 saddle top strung bridge on it......oh well I have both styles of bridge in the part bin, so all is not lost......
19. I am in the process of collecting parts for a 51/54 P Bass inspired by the Dusty Hill Signature model which has a reverse headstock, so I am alittle concerned that some string sets may not have a long enough strings, does anyone have any experience of stringsets with a sufficiently long strings It may be that standard strings are long enough, but it would be a shame to spend several beer tokens to find they dont fit..... I would prefer Stainless, roundwound........45 - 100 The Dusty Bass has Fender® USA Bass 7250ML, NPS, (.045-.100 Gauges) bit they are Nickel.....
20. Lets see if we are on the same Hymnsheet here.. You want a bass guitar with one pickup, one volume and one tone control and the pickup is a Jazz type? The pickup has two wires? If the answer to the above is yes, follow ANY single pickup wiring schematic.........like this one...... http://www.seymourduncan.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/1S_1V_1T.jpg
21. Google guitar wiring diagrams, choose a single pickup schematic and follow it, it's really quite easy, one lead to earth and one to the correct tab on the volume pot.....
