1.
I dunno... I've got through my whole bass-playing life without knowing how (or wanting) to slap. It depends on where you want to take it, I suppose. I *do* know that the day I find myself slappin' out Car Wash will be the day before I sell all my gear and take up the trumpet.
Funny you should say that.....[Trumpet] I started on Trumpet..playing in Glenn Miller Bands... Then when i was given the chance to play Bass in a band doing'Car wash' I was there...even though i kept arsing up the 'Slap break'... 30 years on and i still arse it up..... Garry
 2.
Yes - why slap a precision. If you want to slap - get a slappers bass. Personally I think slap is a busted flush and only of use in an 80's tribute band but if you have to do it - thats what Jazz basses are for (or Alembic, GB, Status, Musicman and anyone I've left out that might be offended).
Plenty of Guys Slap on a Precision..... Nice new strings...sounds great , and punchy... Check out Freddie Washington... a master at slapping on a Presicion...! As for just in 80'S bands....uumm Most guy's here will tell you..todays working Bassist needs to have all the styles up there sleeves.. You never know whats thrown at you when you turn up at a gig/show/session/dep whatever. Ok if you just do one style..and that's what you wanna do..or if thats what you known for... but that limits your options for work. Every function band in the world seems to do 'Car Wash' ..in just about every key but the original...!! Oh well Mr Miller and Co might as well hang up there boots then.... Garry

 8.
And mine before that!!! Totally agree, it's a very good bass.
And mine....even before that....!! Great Little Bass..
 9. I think i heard somewhere in the past , that it was Herbie Flowers. But at the same time a guy called Russ Stableford [ a very fine Bassist] was doing a lot of the Tv theme stuff...... But i am pretty sure It was Herbie Flowers.. and a Drummer called Barry Morgan...
 10. Steve... The plugins with live6 are mainly efx...... you can purchase there sampler....no need though.. Live6 is what it say's on the box... Live. You can bounce/render midi within live6... But you can do all your Recording in PT.. Get it sounding how you want it [eq/pan/efx etc] then export into Live 6.. Then arrange into scene's track's what ever... the beauty is that you can control from a small midi controller [like Oxygen 8..or whatever] so no f..k..g around with a mouse/pad etc.. It can all be controlled on the fly/realtime.. Sends for a click to the drummer or other members. Just output from the Laptop into the PA...and away you go...! Portable as well.... Also if you Laptop is set up for just Audio , and has no other programme's on it.... Live 6 is very very stable.and not a CPU hog. You are not limited to set orders either...if you get to a gig and want to change the set list... it can be done in minutes...can even change as you go...when you know what you are doing....!! Just think keyboard's played as you want,,,strings..percussion...extra backing vox..even double you Bass with some Bass synth... I mentioned this, because the other night here in a club in Berlin..i saw it all in action with a band. just a trio with no keyboards....and it worked a treat.. I will be seeing these guys over the weekend.so i will find out the set up... I am back next week...so will report more.... But seems like a sound investment to me...[no humping modules and [Top Ten hit] around] You can even get midi files from the net[tons of free stuff]...this will make the first work load a lot easier...but once done you are laughing I have collected tons of these files over the years..some great ..some not so good.. But even the ones that are not so good, can be used as templates ,,then tweeked to taste... You are welcome to copy the midi disc's i have...but you will have to sift through them.....! Check out the Ableton live site.... Garry
 11. Thought about just using Ableton live with a laptop....??? alot easier .... and cheaper...! Worth thinking about. Garry
 12. RIM BASSES.... http://www.rimcustombasses.co.uk Robbie Mcdade. 07915 075077 [email protected] Garry
 13. Nuendo 3...Sonar 6 and live 6 here..... All for different situations..... Various 3rd party plug ins to supplement.... All the Major DAW'S pretty much do the same deal..... [all have plus and minus's - just visit the Forums and see the whinging going down] Having a good quality Audio card/unit and Monitors is also a good bet... Quality converters in the card for getting live audio in and out. As for Mac versus Pc.......that one will go on for ever , a lot of people/studios use both... At one time Mac was the most stable...but these day's PC is there with stabilty and speed.[and 64 bit] Although Windows does need tweeking to get best audio results. Try this link for that http://www.musicxp.net/ Garry

 17. For those of you who dont know....... You can get a complete computor/soft studio set up for free , from this mag. Sequencer...soft synths..drum sampler/machine and loads of plugs and samples... Also plenty of tutorials on set up etc... Worth a look if you are thinking of going down the project studio route , or even just for practise etc. Had a look and is piss easy to set up and get going quickly. 19. Just thought i would share a magical moment in my life.... I am over here in Berlin playing Bass on a show for 3 month's , And last night after the Performance went along to see Allan Holdsworth at Quasimodo's [A small live venue] that hold's about 200/250 i suppose. I managed to get to the front ,about 10 feet from Mr Haslip , who was on fire with Chad wackerman on drums... It was just amazing to see these guy's at work so close up. Me and a couple of Dude's i work with stayed for a drink [No sign of the band] we were totally on our own in the small Bar when , Jimmy Haslip appeared with Wackerman.... Here i was standing next to one of my Idol's.... So i just talked for about 1/2 hour with him....... Man , what a humble person he is. Telling me about his direction , of getting into producing. And constant touring since 1971....!! I havent landed yet....!!!
