but i still don't expect them to compete with the likes of East West's Hollywood strings - have you heard it? sounds amazing! costs ££££'s but if you got the money the quality of sound that can be reproduced using plugins and digital effects now is impressive to say the least.
Indeed along with Project Sam, Spitfire, Vienna etc, all have different textures for different situations. But as BigRedX has said - You still need to know what you are doing. I am afraid there is no easy way out. This guy know's what he is doing in Logic [along with many, many others of course] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjcdgU4la-c Garry

The new update/version looks good, there has also been a lot of work under the hood with bug fixes. Flex Pitch looks great, and about time. Apart from re-pitching and harmonizing, you can extract the Midi info which is great for replacing parts. iPad control is very useful, like a second monitor...Using the iPAD to control the mixer and FX parameters touch screen style is easier than messing around with the mouse - a ton of other cool/easier things can be had using the iPad, It's like having a second Midi controller. Track folders and easy rearrangement of aux tracks in the mixer, another welcome, although well over due. A few more Midi plug ins as well [and you can chain them together] GUI looks fresher, but all these DAW's are starting to look the same.. Looks like a good Update to me. EDIT: A little tutorial has appeared.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYba6E7Oeu0

If you want free, this is a very good one. You will need the Kontakt sampler, but it will work with the Kontakt free player. The site is in German, but your browser translate should sort it out. Native Instruments UK Phone Numbers or Direct Email Addresses?
lowdown replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
Are you going from Komplete 6 to Komplete 9 [Upgrade] ? Or Komplete 6 to Komplete 9 Ultimate [Crossgrade] ? There is a [big] difference in price. Possible that GAK have got it wrong [give them a call] To be honest, the guys over at NI are pretty good to deal with on the phone.
I don't know if this is the case today, but years ago some shipping lines treated the musicians as crew and you weren't even allowed to mix with the passengers or even on passenger decks.
Still the same these days I believe. On some of these short ferry crossing gigs [and major cruises], you are considered crew [always on call] therefore if any emergencies pop up, you would be expected to do your bit [Sober] What about Oil rig work ? thats no booze, is it not ? and for longer stints.
Just to reitterate here, the question is whether this is the norm
As has been said a few times on the thread - On Ferry crossings, or the short trips up to Northern Europe, Yep it can be the norm, or at least does happen. That room looks [and should sound fantastic]. He also Composer some very stunning, melodic and moving music. Very talented person. Garry

I should imagine you are going to get a varied response here, regarding the headphones. Just a case of picking through the bones. I am also on the look out for some new headphones, more for composing later at night. A useful chat about various vendors going on here.
Its a showcase for his expertise, no doubt he is a top player regarding other genres on the bass that would pluck up the ears of the critics on here. I thought he was Impressive.
I agree. It's not just an exercise, it's a toone from start to finish. The guys got chops/ears for a tune, and he is articulated musically. At 02:10 it gets a little sloppy for a few bars, although that might be that envelope filter not responding fast enough. But so what, he's doing his thing. It sounds like it has all come naturally. Someone above has said where's da funk gone ? The original was not funk, just a bit of Nu Disco [and great it was] with Nile doing his bit. Good stuff.
