Why not putting in what makes the Warwick sound, their MEC preamp ? The Mike Pope Flex Core is certainly the best onboard preamp, the most transparent and the most expensive too...

Very nice bass indeed, but if it's a Japanese model, which surely is, it's a TWXT-6 model : http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~tune/tune/twxt/twxt.html Read this notice, since there are two different Tune companies, a Korean one and the original Japanese one ; the Korean one being somehow illegal : http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~tune/basic/important/important.html In fact, the Korean company "acquired" the license after the original Tune Kobe factory was destroyed by the 1995 earthquake, but "forgot" to pay for this... Also, yours is not an early 90's model as they had no serial numbers, reversed mounted Gotoh (Tune branded) tuners and the "Tune Guitar Technology Made in Japan" logo "stamped" under the lacquer at the back of the neck (see pictures). -

@Leonard Smalls said it well, there are very good slap players that use the technique as part of their vocabulary, like Jonas Hellborg every time he's slapping or Marcus Miller, but they don't over abuse the "effects" of the technique. And this where the hatred lies : over abuse of over heard phrases. That said, there is a terrific Louis Johnson slap bass part here, nobody would disagree :

This is mine, bought after my brother "borrowed" my old one. I started with a very old Elu with 1/2 bits and heavy as a Panzer. Still have my fingers and stomach. 🤣 So here is my new home, wasn't cheap at the time, but I can use 6 and 8 mm bits as well as 1/4 and 1/2, so don't have to worry about the bits I buy :

Not the same grain at all, on mine it's more straight and longitudinal. It must be the Mec pickups. 🤣 But it's definitely afzelia. -
That said, there are great slap players, but funnily, they are better when they don't slap. 😉 You want 3 names, but the list is almost endless : Stanley Clarke, Mark King and Marcus Miller...

I once wanted to create the A.S.L. way back in the early nineties. I should have done it or protect the name as I'm sure it's being used somewhere now : the Anti Slap League. I just couldn't stand these slap "demos" (along with the shredding shredders) you were "hearing" everywhere in the shops, at the shows, ... : anywhere it was plink, plank, plonk, ta, ta, ta, tak. So BORING ! That said I don't care, I just play fretless... 🤣

Thanks for sharing this interesting article. Being a 6 strings bass player and at some time a bass "historian", I knew most of it, but not all of it, which is very important. In fact, I knew the story through Anthony Jackson's interviews, but the funny thing is to see the part these guys played in the 6 strings bass history : Carl Thompson, Ken Smith, Vinnie Fodera and even Stuart Spector, all four in New York at the same time catching and understanding the vibe in the air. What is the most edifying is that the name Contra Bass is from Ken Smith himself and that the best concept of the instrument (here the 6 strings bass) is by the same guy... 👍 Being a huge fan of Anthony Jackson, I now have other parts of the sound puzzle, thanks to you !

You would be amazed by the very small amount of wax I put on it. This bass has certainly been waxed at least once a month to get it so shiny with so little wax. I've owned lots of basses with oil finish needing to be waxed and it's the first time it gets so shiny with no effort... 😉 If there weren't marks on the pickups and the fret board, I would have described it as pristine.

Thanks Russ, but the bass is a just born baby compared to the around 400 years old vintage floor. 😉
