  1. Where is the "bass" pickup on your bass and where are the lower notes ? To me, it's quite logical to have bass, mid, treble. I know that you drive on the wrong side of the road in the UK, so this must explain why Status and the likes are putting the tone controls the wrong way too. 😝
  2. It's easier to tweak the sound on the bass then on the amp...
  3. Audere preamps are terrific, but a bit hi-fi sounding for some people. The Z options is a great idea. Had this preamp on a few basses and have never been disappointed.
  4. EBS P2 2 bands (not made anymore, but very transparent and cleverly made with that mid switch). Aries home made 3 bands (the best chosen frequencies, never aggressive and always musical). Mike Pope Flexcore 4 bands (transparent and way more versatile than the Fodera 3 bands). Bazzz Haz Labs Ken Smith / Fodera 3 bands clone (absolutely not transparent, but what a growl).

  6. Terrific basses, this one used to be mine, the best all maple neck bass I've ever owned : Consider this a free bump on me.
  7. Try this, Anthony Jackson is a bit more on the front as Steve Smith is a bit more "discreet" than Simon Phillips or Steve Gadd. Hiromi is the same, terrific and exuberant at the same time :
  8. Sorry, but Marcus Miller doesn't sound the same with a Squier, a Sire or his Signature Fender, which, by the way, is more a Sadowsky than a Fender. If you've heard and seen him live, he is fighting with his Sire to get a decent sound and doesn't feel at home until he picks up his "Fender" bass. That said, you can ask Fodera to put the output jack in the headstock, they will do it as long as you pay for it. What you don't seem to understand is the "philosophy" behind Signatures : people buying them want the exact same instrument, which is an heresy, for sure. I've been playing luthiers basses for years and, again, sorry, but I really can't play mass production instruments anymore. But again, the best bass is the one you like, be it a Squier or a Fodera. That said, except the AJ6, I don't like Fodera's at all : way far too expensive for what they really are. My main basses are Leduc's because they are just what I'm looking for. And take the time to listen to Anthony Jackson.
  9. Being a Signature model, it's made the way the player intended it, so you have to accept it, just like for each and every Signature model. Real Signature models are supposed to have been thought down to every single detail. If you play sitted, the side jack mounted is a pity, so a front mounting one makes big sense. I had an exact clone of #9 AJ6 made by Polish luthier Langowski and it was a killer bass, can't imagine the sound of the original... Or yes, I can by simply listening to Anthony Jackson (try anything with Hiromi and you'll understand what mastering an instrument and music means). My recently ordered Leduc U-Basse 6 strings fretless will be passive with only a balance for the original Q-Tuner first version pickups and nothing else. It will have the Leduc rear mounted output jack, which is the best place to put it, playing sitted or jumping everywhere. And Hugues is a great seller too !
  10. Sorry, but some Gibson's basses are way more uglier than this. And what about some BC Rich and Burns ? Ugly, certainly, but not the all time winners. Think Ovation basses : those are the winners for sure...
  11. Pick up the one you want : https://www.thomann.de/gb/fretless_basses.html?oa=pra
  12. Just look here : http://www.gallistrings.com/en/strings/bass/exposed-core
  13. Tapered or exposed cores ? When you say no coloured silk, do you mean there's some silk ? If it's exposed cores with black silk on the headstock side, I'm pretty sure they are LaBella Super Steps. If it's exposed cores without any silk, and super extra long scale, it could be Fodera Anthony Jackson Signature set (only available in 6 strings set). If it's exposed cores, it could also be Galli strings (the only exposed cores available in nickel or stainless steel). If it's tapered cores with silk, it could be Dean Markley SR 2000 strings. A picture might help.
  14. Thinning down the herd, so selling the basses I don't use. FOR SALE ONLY. Quite rare STATUS Electro 4 lined fretless with bridge pickup added by SP Custom. The specifications : 34 inches scale. 24 positions, original lined fretless (no front dots). 1.5 mm action under the G string up to 2 mm under the E string. 18 mm strings spacing at the Status Electro bridge. 11 mm at the graphite nut. 1 double action truss rod. 4 Gotoh tuners. Woven graphite neck with black phenolic fingerboard. 1 Status Hyperactive humbucker in neck position + 1 SP Custom Smokey HBass Classic humbucker close to the bridge (very similar sound wise to the Status Hyperactive) + 1 piezo pickup under the saddle in the bridge with magnetic pickups volume, piezo volume, treble cut/boost and bass cut/boost (like on all Electro series) plus a 3 positions toggle switch for the magnetic pickups (neck, both, bridge) instead of the EQ bypass. 18 Volts preamp with new batteries. The body of the Electro 4 has a two-piece mahogany back with a red coloured veneer and book-matched rosewood top. Acoustic chambers are machined into the mahogany before the top is glued on : this allows the body to resonate and create a warmer, more "open" response. The graphite neck produces great sustain and clarity and results in an incredibly versatile instrument with great character. Weight : 4.4 kilos. Delivered in original Status/Hiscox hard case with all the accessories and original invoice. Equipped with new Status round wound strings (45 ~105). Satin finish for the body and thick glossy finish for the neck. Made in April 2010. Set up by Christophe LEDUC. Official price today will be more than £2000 GBP if you can get one made. Asking price is £1200 GBP due to the rarity and good very condition of this bass. The bridge pickup has been installed by SP Custom, which is a well known French maker and the work is perfect (the idea was to add a lot of versatility and to employ the useless EQ bypass as a 3 positions toggle switch for the, now, 2 magnetic pickups). Some links : http://www.sp-custom.com/soap.bass.html http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html The pictures to see the real condition, which shows only some very little wear with one "knock" on the headstock near the E tuner :
  15. Owned yours too Russ. This one used to belong to Viz Maurogiovanni who is a great player, indeed.
  16. Indeed, Hugues is a great seller. Great looking bass too.
  17. I've been to Christophe LEDUC today with this bass : he made a new truss rods (there are 2) cover as the original was broken, change 4 Allen screws at the bridge and ... announced me that the fretboard was not Para at all, but Brazilian rosewood, just like the cover and the headstock veneer. So, knowing all this, it's back at the real value price, which is £1750 GBP or 2000 Euros. Some of you missed a very good deal.
