1. When in doubt support your local economy. If Vanderkley still made a 4x8" when I was cab shopping I would have bought that. Apparently his 4x8" never got past the prototype stage. He suggested me to buy a 4x10". I bought two Markbass 4x8"s...
2. In class D the D does not denote digital. Just saying.
3.
I thought that the Plek process gave unbeatable results?
If that were the case then why do some high end guitar builders still do it by hand?
4. Maybe their policy has changed since they released the brochure below. A PLEK machine in the background is pretty convincing evidence the pictured bass was indeed PLEK'd. I can't argue with your logic. http://www.lakland.com/lakland-bro.pdf Sibob, please report back if the bass comes with a PLEK'd hang tag, I know Skylines do. Oh and what a lovely bass!
5.
You've been Plek'd ...
IIRC, only Skylines get Plek'd. On US made basses it's all done by hand.
6.
Some fantastic gear is made in Asia. Where it's made isn't the issue. What is important is how seriously the company takes it's reputation. The Asians can make anything they are asked to. If they are asked to make a good quality product they will. The question is did Markbass maintain their sound and quality when they switched? Go and listen to the new amps and decide.
This is the right answer. Made in China* used to be synonymous with crap quality (in some cases it still is though) but keep in mind that a lot of quality stuff is being made there too. A CNC router doesn't care about where on earth it's operating; feed it the correct commands and it will consistently perform time and again. * insert your Asian country of choice here
7. What didn't you like about that particular Stingray? Was it lacking in build quality or sound?
8. GK Fusion 550. Weighs 12 kg, not 12 lbs and isn't exactly gig bag pocket friendly size-wise. It sounds friggin 'awesome though.
9.
Too much Sting? There's no such thing!!!
Ever tried a Stingray-on-steroids AKA Sterling? That one can sometimes have a bit too much of a good sting thing...
10.
The difference between the 8 and 4 ohm rating on any amp will be minimal and barely noticeable in a band. What you will notice is the number of speakers and, more importantly, the sensitivity of the cab.
This. If you really want to push the bass out, invest in more speaker surface area.
11. Where you pluck greatly influences the sound, that combined with the preamp (either 2- or 3-band eq) gives you a lot of different tones. People like to accuse the Stingray of being a one trick pony. Well as they saying goes: it's all in the hands. Maybe not all but a great deal is.
12. Wonderful piece of bass gear by John East (www.east-uk.com). I have a DJ-Retro in my Lakland DJ4 which is the same preamp on a curved plate. Check out his stuff. Highly recommended!
13. Years ago Bass Player magazine did a J-bass pickup shootout. It must be out there.
14. You can indeed daisy chain two 8 ohm cabs to a TH350. The TH350 can handle that and will be able to deliver its full power. Only use one of these setups:

1x 8 ohm cab (175 W)
2x 8 ohm cab (350 W)
1x 4 ohm cab (350 W)
I had my TH350 hooked up to 2x 4x8" cabs. Works well! I keep the TH350 as backup since I have a GK Fusion 550.
15. My Sterling has been running on the same battery for 2 years now.
16. Are you sure a TL072 has the same pinout as a LM4250?
17. Lovely pedal that thickens up your tone in a nice way. Perhaps not best suited for bass but can be set to a lush chorus effect. If you don't have a use for the reverb, you can disable it and thus get more control over the modulation of the sound. This is done via the dip switches on the inside. I have the Keeley Abbey Chamber Verb so I disabled the reverb on the 30ms. This enables separate rate and depth controls in the Abbey mode which I use most.
18. Did you consider starting from the measurements of the Ashdown 8x10 King Combo and use these?
19. Preamp tube still OK?
20. Nice one, enjoy! Sterlings are great basses.
21. Two 8 ohm 210's or one 4 ohm 410, perhaps? Why not buy a second 210RBH? Adding a second cab really starts pushing the bass out.
22. Tweak the preamp of an existing design (or not and just rebadge) and a new amp is born. I expect the power module to be the same as the MarkBass Little Mark 3, both sport the 500 Watt MPT power amp.
23. Looks like a MusicMan BH-500 (made by MarkBass for MusicMan) if you ask me.
24. The green one looks cool IMO. Room for improvement in the knob department though. Those cheap knobs are só ugly on any instrument. They look utilitarian, fine on a piece of rack gear but not on a fine instrument.
