Love the colour and bet it sounds awesome! Can I ask if you got it in the UK or did you get it from overseas?
hi Clint - sorry for delay in replying - not been on much due to relocation for work. I bought the 64 CS Jazz in the UK through Guitar Guitar.... they are well worth checking out
2. Bump - still a few slots available on 6th May & 13th May auditions in Glasgow.... if you are interested or know of anyone who may be please PM me....
3. I've been more of a jazz bass player than a P bass player over the years. My first, which I still have, was/is a 1972 black with black scratchplate, rosewood board. Its got a couple of scuff from being well played over the years but othewise its in mint condition & plays beautifully. I've also got a 1975 maple neck Jazz - the body was originally sunburst but its been stripped & sanded. Its quite a bit heavier than the '72 & has a much hotter output. My favourite bass & a relatively recent purchase is a '64 Custom Shop Jazz in British Racing Green, with matching headstock, with a mint green scratch plate.
4. Wow - this place needs a SD Curlee appreciation page too!
5. Good on you for cancelling. You'd be lucky to hire a PA/engineer for £200! PA is most definitely not in the 'backline & breakables' categories
6. Sorry for hopping on this thread but would any Scottish bass players be interested in this? 7. I'd be up for a Scottish bass bash..... but moving southward in a couple of months time
8. +1 Travis is an excellent player & a great bass educator
9. Looks great.... if it weren't for an imminent & very expensive relocation down south.....
10. Bass: depending on the situation generally a Sadowsky Metro 5 string (have 3 & usually take 2 with me), '64 custom shop jazz, 2012 American Std P, Wal Mk II & Overwater 5 string freltesses. Amp: depending on situation again, for small gigs a Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 with 10" EA extension cab, medium gigs a TC Electronic RH450 with TC 2x12 & 1x12 cabs, larger gigs EBS TD650 or SWR SM500 with EMS Neoline 2x12 & 2x10 cabs. Effects: dont tend to bother with them, TC Ditto looper & Boss OC-2 on occasion
11. My first P was a cheap plywood catalogue bass (Kay maybe?) which almost put me off P basses for life. It was my only bass at the time so I loved it as I did not know any better but it had dead spots all over the neck, terrible hum/buzz problems & sounded horribly thin (maybe that had a lot to do with the 10W Badger practice amp I was rocking in those halcyon days!). I played the hell out of that bass but eventually stepped up to a 'light years ahead quality/playability wise' Ibanez Musician & barely touched the pseudo P thereafter; despite sticking an EMG pickup in it (still sounded crap) & 'customising' it with a sticker in a familiar font which had the german word for sugar on it - almost passed for 'fender' but on closer inspection actually looked more like a four letter word! I rediscovered the Precision when I was shopping around for a 70's jazz bass. Found a well used maple neck '75 precision which had been refinished in 10 colour sparkle. It instantly felt right & delivered the classic P bass tone that my F***er was sadly lacking. Still have it today, with a set of D'Addario black tape wounds that have been on there for 4 years or more. Sounds great - here's me playing a bit of Aretha on it. https://www.youtube....h?v=cEj4TkUzjZc I bought a Custom Shop '64 jazz which I loved & was contemplating buying a custom shop P as I'd rekindled my love for Chuck Rainey's playing - had a massive P bass shoot out in Guitar Guitar with MIMs, MIJs, American Standards, Custom shop & a few other rarities including P's from other makers; tried them all back to back & opted for a 2012 P bass which is my main P bass today & the bass I play the most. Here's a recent vid of me doing another Chuck Rainey classic - strung with Thomastik Infeld JF344s. https://www.youtube....h?v=6cNK3hfEw-M
12. Welcome Phil - just recently joined myslef. Nice gear. Enjoy exploring..... Steve
13. Cheers gents - have spent a fair bit of time in Edinburger myself over the years but never enjoyed it, of course
14. Soul-Fi are an established 7 piece wedding/function band based in Glasgow. The band have wedding gigs lined up in 2015/16 & are currently represented by Hireaband & Coast Entertainments agencies in Scotland. Due to the current bass player (me!) relocating for work, Soul-Fi now need a permanent replacement bass player. The band plays a variety of styles & a big cross section of music including soul, funk, pop, disco, jazz, R&B. The right player will be comfortable picking up an expanding setlist (130+ songs) quickly & efficiently, have a good rapport with the other musicians, have a great ear for music (reading not essential but may be an advantage), be able to improvise & think quickly on his/her feet. Significant live playing experience, good reliable gear (ideally PAT tested) & transport are essential (functions generally within 1-2 hours travel of Glasgow city centre). Good availability for rehearsals & gigs & willingness to help in sourcing gigs/support pushing the band forward also required. The band rehearses weekly (generally Wednesday nights, 9-12) in Berkeley 2 studios. Video/audio recordings of your playing will be required. Please let me know if you are interested or please pass this on if you know someone who may be interested - Audutions will be held in April/May & we need someone to join right away! 15. Excellent - found your video on Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick very useful a while back Scott
16. Cheers Dad having fun exploring so far
17. Most I've paid for an instrument is around £3.5k. I've got instruments that are in the £1k to £2k range which are every bit as good quality wise as the highest priced instrument. I'm not sure that a Fodera is for me; it probably just as well I've not tried one as I'm not sure with my GAS habit it would be productive for my bank balance if I did try one!
18. I've been known to tap.... very rarely if ever do I count
19. hi folks - I'm Steve, from Glasgow but soon to be relocating to Southampton. Been playing for over 28 years pop, rock, metal, jazz, soul, funk etc... Currently lead a 7 piece function band called Soul-Fi, hence the monicker. I'm a self confessed total gear head & have been lucky to have owned a number of great basses over the years. Current faves are my Sadowsky Metros (have 4 - four string & 3 five strings), Overwater Progress II 5 string & perception 5 string unlined fretless, Wal Mk II custom unlined fretless 5 string, Spector NS2 USA 5 string, '64 custom shop Fender Jazz (british racing green custom finish), 2012 & 1975 Precision basses. Been on SBL coming up for a year & a number of the good folks over there recommended basschat to me. Now I'm here amazed how much it looks like SBL! Not sure who's copied who... Love talking all things bass & have a few basses I'm looking to sell to help with the house purchase slush fund. More on that to come after I've had some fun exploring the forums... Good to be here - look forward to chatting bass with you all... Steve
