  1. Nice! I would say we should meet for a beer, but... 😂
  2. Well look at that! I'm a newbie, only been here in Redoubt since November. Whereabouts are you?
  3. I don't think I have. The promise to deliver if a courier is arranged is made between the buyer and whoever they choose to collect and deliver the item. The seller is not involved with this transaction so has no promise to keep. The only promise made between the buyer and seller is that the item they are transacting is as described in the advertisement. Because it would be one of the promises made if an agreement was reached for the buyer to arrange collection. But, really how does any buyer know that a random stranger off the Internet will package an item so well that it's impossible for it to be damaged in transit? Yes, and there are a lot of people who offer to arrange couriers who are incompetent at packaging. A) Yes. If you want something that you are unable to collect, you have to accept the risk of paying upfront for it for it to be delivered. Or should sellers just send their property to strangers on a promise it will be paid for when delivered? There is a reason why no one does this. B) Yes. Once payment has been made it is your property. Ensuring you get your property delivered safely and at a cost you're happy with is entirely at your own risk. C) Yes. You have to hope the seller opens the door. D) E) Yes. If the agreement you have made between yourself and whoever you choose to deliver the item goes wrong, it is entirely your responsibility to work things out. Yes, that is the answer. I've already given plenty of reasons why I want a buyer to arrange collection and it is nothing to do with laziness. The only time "laziness" has come into it is in echoing your words to highlight the flaw in your logic. Look, if a buyer doesn't want to arrange collection, that's fine. I completely understand that they may not want to accept the all the risks as lined out above (that we both agree on). As a seller, I don't want to accept those risks either, hense the request for collection in person. I don't think it's fair that a seller should be made to accept these risks if the buyer is unable to meet a condition of sale, especially if the seller is prepared to waive a key condition of sale to the benefit of the buyer. I have a bass for sale on the marketplace at the moment, may I take you through my "sales process" to see if that helps you reassess if you think I'm being lazy? - Strip, clean and deep polish bass Repair or replace any faulty hardware & electronics (If modifying) source, order and install all new parts Roll fingerboard edges, degloss neck Reassemble and set up with low action Take tons of photographs, select and edit those for the ad Write ad, try to include as much detail as possible, highlight all faults with pics, provide weight and tech spec if possible Pay a subscription to BC to advertise for sale Make no profit.
  4. There have been numerous posts above stating various reasons. You may disagree, that's fine, but that doesn't change the validity of the reasons given. I'd much rather the buyer "get off their behind" to collect it, but if they can't, they're welcome to send someone to collect it on their behalf. If that's a courier, I'll "get off my behind" to pack, weigh, measure and provide all relevant information to the buyer so they can go online and book a courier if their choosing. If the buyer doesn't want to stay on their behind and book a courier online, they obviously don't want the item that badly. The upfront payment is only asked for if the buyer is unable to collect. If they are sending a 3rd party to collect, unless that 3rd party bring the cash, there is no other way to complete the transaction without the seller facing enormous and unnecessary risk. There is no promise to deliver, that's the entire point. There's only a promise that the item listed is as described.
  5. In simple terms, I'd rather not ship a bass because there is a risk it will be damaged in transit, so will ask for collection in person. If the buyer can't collect it in person, he is welcome to send a courier to collect it on his behalf. I'll happily help the buyer with all the details needed and be flexible for collection and I will package the bass to the best of my ability. But my responsibility for the condition of the bass ends once the buyer collects, either in person or by courier on their behalf. I honestly believe this to be the fairest way to do remote selling as a private seller.
  6. Tbh, before the virus drama, my plan was to sell 3 Fenders and put the cash towards a custom Sandberg build. I was talking to Holger at the end of 2018 and had spec'd a passive VT with stacked knobs and a specific neck profile (copy of my KT neck). I was just about to pull the trigger and was umming and ahhing about the finish, when an ex-display passive TT4 came up at a bargain price, and I can't resist a Sandberg bargain, so I went for that instead. Still want that VT though! 🙄😁
  7. Ahh I've had a Sire and the plenty of knobs thing was too much for me 😁
  8. Precision (PJ) with jazz neck. Even though I don't actually own one... 😁
  9. There are a couple of threads running about some of the problems folks have with some ads on the forum, so in the interest of helping sellers secure that sale, what would you want to see to make the perfect advert?
  10. I do understand, however I'd much prefer collection in person and do state that in my ad. I think, as I've been buying from ebay for a lot longer than anywhere else, I'm completely used to seeing a "collection only" item outside my own collection range (between 60-100miles) and contacting the seller to see if they will pack if I arrange collection. Many say no, that's fine, not everyone has packing materials or just want to aggro, but some say yes. I can then choose my preferred courier and get the item I'd like which is too far to collect. I totally accept that some don't want to arrange their own collection and that's fine too. But I don't think it's particularly fair to accuse the seller of laziness if the buyer themselves aren't willing to do the exact same thing. Its nothing to do with laziness, it's all to do with risk.
  11. Glad to see it's gone to a good home, I know parting with it was a battle for Oli, he absolutely loved that bass 👍🏻
  12. Took a couple of pics this afternoon of me 60s Jazz...
  13. Some good advice above. The only thing I'd add is regarding Hipshot (I've had a B Style, aluminium is best for light weight) because of the top loading slots which makes taking strings off and on a doddle. But, it comes down to how often do you change your strings to decide if that's important to you... https://hipshotproducts.com/products/b-style-fender-mount-bridges
  14. No for me too, although I could be tempted with a used Cort Arona built in colab with Sandberg.
  15. Haha exactly the same for me too! I've just picked up a few basses from storage (with the intention of selling), one of which is my old fender copy beater. Since I've had it back I can't put it down!
  16. Well... It doesn't break down and is an awkward shape, I'm just concerned that I'm unable to package it up well enough to prevent the damage that'll definitely happen when sending it with a courier. If you wanted to arrange to send a man with a van who'd wrap it in a blanket and tie it down, that would be ok.
  17. Up for sale is my latest impulse buy and first of my small Fender collection... A Fender Standard Precision bass, made in Mexico in 2010 (the start of a good run apparently), finished in Lake Placid Blue with a rosewood fretboard. This one has been modded to recreate the classic 60's look. I've always loved Lake Placid Blue and when this came up for sale the day after I'd sold my Squier VM, all the good intentions I had for that cash went straight out of the window. By the time it was in the post, a plan had been made (to make it look like an American Original '60s Precision) and the parts list written - Brown Tort Scratchplate KiOgon Loom Generic Bridge Cover Fender Pickup Cover Upon arrival I was really pleased with the condition of the bass. It was exactly as described, with just a few very small marks that are hard to find, but overall in absolutely superb condition. Weight - 4.1kg on bathroom scales It came fitted with a replacement vintage bridge (described as Fender but I can't confirm) which looks great so stayed and new strings, also in great nick and still on the bass. The white scratchplate was also a replacement, swapped by the previous owner, as the original which was discoloured. The bass was the owners back-up to his recently acquired US Precision, so wasn't being used anymore. It was pretty dusty and in needing of a setup, which I did prior to upgrading the bass. The truss works fine and action is set pretty low. Upon plug-in there was a severe intermittent signal loss problem. Taking the plate off revealed an earlier bit of rewiring, in the form of a new pot and extra earth wire. Not sure if it was a dodgy solder or a faulty socket, either way that loom is in the bin, replaced with a flawless KiOgon loom connected to the original pickups. It sounds lovely, classic P bass. I've rolled the fretboard edges and lightly sanded the neck, something I wish I'd known about years ago. Annoyingly, I've made two marks in the lacquer, but these are just visual, the neck is very smooth. I've also installed a small shim (business card thick), as I like to the get action as low as possible without having the saddle screws cutting up my hand. While the bass was stripped, I give it a deep clean and polish, soaked the fretboard in lemon oil, then bolted it all back together with the new parts (and have progress pics if the buyer is interested). Its up for sale because, as I working on it, I come to the sad realisation that I'm never going to get on with the Fender fretboard radius. So, I've decided to sell 3 of my 4 Fenders, keeping only an old Bitsa which is too cracking to part with, and invest in an another Sandberg, possibly a VS, VT or VM Cash on collection is always much preferred from Eastbourne, East Sussex BN22, but I will ship in a gig bag and box at buyers risk, cost and arrangement. Payment method for shipping to be agreed. Thanks for looking! Coming to the BC Marketplace soon...* a MiM Fender Classic Series '60s Jazz PJ with stacked knob KiOgon loom a mint condish MiJ Fender Classic Series 70s Precision with bound maple board and blocks! Not the black one *Mods, I have a yearly sub & Ped's approved this bit.
  18. Finally fitted the pickup cover today. Struggling to get a good pic, but did get some lovely ones of the dog 😁
  19. I'm visiting my Mum in Wales this week and will be bringing back some of my gear, which has been in storage since September... 😬
  20. It's taken 3 weeks to get this pickup cover. Mainly my fault, but Dv247 didn't help. Thomann & Ups did great though. Worth the wait though, it looks great 😎
  21. Me too 😁 Such a cool idea and lovely looking bass. Out of interest, what fretboard radius does it have?
