11.
I'm just interested in what it sounds like out front! It is a perspective you never really get on your own band normally, isn't it? And with my rig, it just makes sense for me, if one channel needs to be significantly louder or quieter than the engineer has made it - he isn't going to know exactly how I have designed it to sound without having heard it before, even if I explain it to the best of my abilities! Maybe I'm misguided in thinking that a second pair of ears that know what to expect from the band might help?
+1
 12. if music is not a competition, why do we have the Hit Parade, with places awarded for who has sold the mosts records? Next time you try get a gig, you could be in competition with other bands, as to who can bring the biggest crowd. Performance exams are a competition and points awarded accordingly. There is constant competition in magazine polls, and award shows, also we have Battle of the Bands competition and the whole Pop Factor thing. Seems like one big competition to me. Not condoning it, just saying is all.

 15.
True althought in my limited experience Clique Central!
Not true, I'd never be part of a clique that would have me as a member...
 16. the last gig was about 4 bands for a Bedford Metal do at Esquires. Booze and pizza were supplied by the promoter, good stage, good sound. Used my Hamer Blitz - awesome One of the younger bands bassist asked me for some advice afterwards, so I gave him the benefit of my experience, but then told him that as I was nearly 20 years older than he was and we were still playing on the same bill to feel free to ignore it all
 17.
This is not because the engineer is been rude it is just that a sound check is mainly to set levels sort out the fold back and try to anticipate any problems, there is not much pint in doing any thing else as the sound changes when the room gets full, having someone flapping over a guitar or drum sound is distracting. As for Bullins I believe a lot of the camps have got rid of their sound and light crew and the job is left to the red coats.
room gets full? Not at any of my gigs BTW there is no flapping.
 18. when I'm happy with the onstage sound and monitor mix, I go out front and stand with the sound dude while the band are playing - I'm wireless - so I can hear what we sound like. Some sound dudes don't like this, but I'm always polite about it.
 19.
I would suggest that you make it a hands-on workshop though, otherwise you'll spend all day doing free setups for everyone else. A
+1 while I would never turn down a decent free set up, I do actually want to be able to do it for myself. I know the basics, but applying the knowledge under the eye of someone who knows what is meant to be happening would be invaluable.
