I'm the same. I do use distortion, but not from the B3. I'm more interested in using it for cool/funky synth effects!
Yeah. Since getting it (still not played through it yet) ive been going over our set list and can see a huge potential for making a right old racket with this box.

I think there was mention of this earlier on in the thread. I dont think it took off though. There is a long patch thread on Talkbass, although it seems im in a very small minority that doesn't want any distortion or dirt in my tone.

Cheers Joe. It seems so simple im sure nothing can go wrong So far the Edit & Share program is all that ive used. Its pretty simple to use and a bit easier to see everything at a glance. I cant seem to find any way to adjust the total settings etc, just at patch level. I also cant seem to see anything on line using it. Maybe there are no online patches for this device

Mine just turned up. A day late so that leaves me just 24 hours to sort it out before the next gig. Im working all day but ive just hooked it up to my PC and im very impressed with how easy it is to use. Ive already set a generic gigging patch up with the effects i plan on using, although ive yet to actually play through it lol. Luckily tomorrows gig will have a sound check so ill get to tweak it with my rig.

Met up with Clarky yesterday. Had a good chat and took money off him. What more can i say, hes a nice bloke (although looking at the length of this thread i wonder if he is in fact a fence lol) :-) Cheers mate, nice to see you again and nice doing business with you.....again.

Ive had 3 Highways. A HW-1 Jazz and a HW-One Jazz and P. Lovely instruments. I found the tone was a bit more growly than the MIA's ive owned.

Looks like we're getting the single pedal B3 after all!
dave_bass5 replied to Dood's topic in Effects
Yeah, ill probably keep mine on top of my amp for a few gigs, just so i can tweak it a bit as i get used to it. Mine arriving tomorrow from Amazon. The thing that put me off this new pedal was just the one switch (yes, i know thats the point). I'd like a bit more freedom without having to think too much about whats set up. It also means i can sell my MXR M87, Boss CB-3 and Mini Qtron now. -

Well im out of the running. Ive gone for a B3 instead. I think its going to be a bit easier to use under pressure. I only need a few FX, Chorus and a filter, plus ill have the BDDI on all the time. Having a foot switch for each one seems a bit easier to use on the fly. -
Oh, and any tips on getting close to the classic Bruce Foxton tone ( taking completely different rigs in to account of course
-
Ive just ordered one instead of going for a BDDI. Im pretty lazy when it comes to using FX, i like them but dont bother using them. All i need it for is BDDI on all the time, and Chorus and maybe filtrer if and when its needed. I have these as separate boxes at home but never take them to gigs as i dont really like wires :-) Ill be using this on Sat so wont have much time to play around with it, so i have a question. I use a passive P bass and a radio system (see, no wires) so is it better to set the input of the B3 for active or passive? In the past ive found using the passive input on bass heads works ok but i dont want to start clipping the input. Is there an input level indication? Cheers.

Are they quite a dull looking colour? They could be D'addario Chromes, they have blue windings.

Just a thought but if you guys are serious about this cant you all chip in for a small desk and monitor, even if its just for the drummer? It sounds like money isnt the real issue here. If you play a venue with bad acoustics how are you going to EQ the PA for it without a desk? What about mic'ing the bass drum up in a big room? Controlling feedback and EQ'ing for a boomy room etc. Placing the speakers behind the band is not a good idea, and while its been known to work the overall sound can get very messy, especially in large rooms.
I was thinking of this. Another basschatter has/ had one for sale. Could you elaborate on the jam interface ?
Apogee Jam is the interface I use with my IPad. It's not cheap though, about £60, but its much better than something like the iRig. http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/jam.php

Im not sure if this has been posted already, apologies if it has, i dont click on many YT links https://www.youtube....h?v=pMYZxdhiPJE Not funny at all IMO.

I meant no disrespect to any northerners, it wasnt a dig or anything, but all the girls on the mic's all tend to sound like they came from the same place. We've been amazed that no matter where the camp is, the "entertainments" manager has the same accent and patter. Clones maybe ;-)
-
Get used to hearing "iiiiiits Cabaret show time" and "Big fish, little fish cardboard box" :-( Has anyone noticed that the compares all have exactly the same, northern voice, no matter where they come from? They dont sound like that until they get the mic in their hands so maybe they use a special voice changing mic or something lol.

What parks are you playing? Ive done quite a few Haven gigs in the past. Ive found all the cheesy stuff works, as does chart stuff, as they are full of families with young kids. The Motown stuff goes down well with the mums and dads, as do things like the Jam/Weller for the middle aged blokes. Really, its just like a social club, only sometimes a bit more social. Generally you only play 2x 45 sets.

Anyone know why DV seem to have stopped stocking Fender?
Does anyone know why Digital Village have stopped stocking Fender?
In case Gareth wants to buy one No offence meant to Gareth, just having a laugh. -
I think the face was directed at Jools. Every time he walk towards his piano she would growl at him lol. Anyone notice if he feet were actually touching the ground?

I took a weak sounding Squire pup out of my CV P and now have a £120 Fralin in it. If i was to sell my bass id make sure i got something back for the Fralin, although i would include the stock pup as well. The first pup that went in was a Thumper, that cost £50, the next was a Fender Original, that cost £69 and now the Fralin. Each has sounded different, although not by a lot, but the Fralin now gives me the tone i want. Im not sure about most costing the same though.
FWIW, I disagree - I personally would find a reciept from a reputable luthier for a recent fret-dress+setup a much better selling point that some fancy scratchplate or other modifications (which IMHO mostly *reduce* the value of the bass, contrary to most sellers belief AFAICT) The point being that it's somewhat less likely that you'll immediately have to spend £50+ getting it fully set-up, fret-dress, nut re-cut etc (even if you do have to tweak the action/strings to personal preference) - my experience of playing brand-new instruments (particularly Fenders) is that the stock setup is terrible and luthier attention would be required.
Well yeah, if your talking about the whole, but thats not always the case. Some people dont know how to adjust things like truss rod, bridge etc when they change strings. This is the sort of set up i mean, and ive seen this mentioned a few times in adds. If you are going tot buy a bass and put your fav stings on it there is a chance that you would want to make your own adjustments anyway. For what its worth if i buy a new bass and it needs a fret dressing or nut cutting it will go back, i cant imagine people spending money on a good bass and then spending more to get it up to standard. Thats mad IMO.
Just something I've been thinking about recently, there's a few of basses for sale on here and elsewhere on the internet advertised as being "upgraded". In most cases it's a new pickup, bridge or scratchplate, but are any of these really upgrades? Surely the word upgrade implies that it's an improvement over the original model, but in the world of bass where almost everything is subjective, could you really say that a Dimarzio P pickup is an improvement a stock Fender, or that a Badass bridge is better than a BBOT? Surely if a prospective buyer didn't want those "upgrades", then it can't be considered to be so? Perhaps sellers may be best returning their instruments to an as original state as possible to sell it, and flog the replacement parts seperately? Just my 2p.
Well if the seller is happier with the new hardware then yes, its an upgrade. I think this is nit picking though, its just an indication of the fact that the bass isnt stock. The buyer can make of that what they will, but wont be in for any surprises when it arrives and its not exactly as the stock images on the manufacturers website. My Squire has a Lakland neck, a Fralin pup, Gotoh bridge and a different pick guard. If i ever sell it its these features that would attract someone, not a stock Squier. What i do find funny is when a bass is advertised as "set up by a professional at £xx" and they add a bit on to the cost of the bass. Now that really is subjective and i really cant see why people expect others to pay that extra cost, unless the bass was set up for the buyer at request.

I had one in my P for a few months. Its really nice and very versatile, but that was what i didnt get on with I thought it took a bit away from what a P bass means to me. Ive always been happy with volume up, play with the tone knob a couple of times per gig for certain songs. Job done. Having all that control on board just wasn't needed in my case, and i found myself thinking too much about tweaking and it became a distraction. Maybe that just me though. I also run a Paradriver or BDDI before my amp, and these have more than enough EQ in them, let alone using the amp EQ so it was also not really needed.

I have no issues at all with how BC is run, although i do find the fun seems ot have gone a bit these days. What i have noticed is that deleting threads seems to get a few peoples backs up, and generally helps create new threads to talk about them. How about archiving these threads, maybe in a separate area for members only, so the mods dont get accused of covering anything up etc, and we can use them as reference or whatever if needed. This is one of the friendliest forums on the net IMO, but its only natural not everyone agrees with everything that's said, just like real life.
