  1. Id still trust the WS-90, but will avoid using it at home. Ive only really just started using it with FX so maybe its always been like this, but until recently i had have no issues at all. Always thought it looked ugly though. For reference, here are the 3 i own side by side.
  2. I got the Xvive A58 system today. Im very impressed with it. It's shorter than my Lekato WS-90 by a noticeable amount, but a bit deeper. It fits on my P bass much better and doesn't stick out like the WS-90 does. They are even more compact than the Xvive U2. Im sure my WS-90's are either faulty or just not very well shielded (guessing the second). No issues with how good they sound and are noise/dropout free as far as what I hear on headphones and through as rig, but ive encountered 3 situations where they have cause other equipment to produce noise. The latest one I discovered tonight when I have the receiver plugged in to my Blood Moon phaser. When I engage and disengage it there is a very loud noise. Much more than there should be. No issue with either of my Xvive systems. That, as well as the disruptive noise I got when using the Ampeg SGT-DI, and if I put my hand hear the receiver when its off and plugged in to something means they will now just be a back up for live stuff.
  3. Well he has been playing for over 40 years I believe. Ive only known him for 3 of those. I joined the band and I had a lot of work to put in. I was happy to put the work in to get them up to speed, but it seems he is so stuck in his ways that it will impact the band getting gigs. Having played the club/function scene for a good 20+ years I know the standard thats needed. All are competent players, but struggle with the fact that thy have to be professional about it if they want paid gigs.
  4. I seem to have a lot of dropouts at home with 2.4ghz these days, so try and avoid using my older Xvive's if I can. It seems the WS-90's aren't shielded well, but I dont get drop outs. Hoping the A58 will be the of both worlds.
  5. I have as well. He also has a tuner that can mute, it's just that he doesn't see the need to.
  6. Had a good rehearsal last night, but one of my guitarists still thinks it's the 70s. Small Marshall combo with a stack of Gain and drive pedals. Sound was good when playing (although really too heavy for most of our songs), but my god the noise when we stopped. Its sounded like there was a rain storm in the studio. I just dont get how he (or anyone else) can have that sort of noise when not playing. I have all the answers to how he can stop it, and if I ask him (got to the point where I was telling him) to turn if off he would, but totally clueless to the fact that he needed to. Even worse, I was the only one that this bothered. Dreading the next gig.
  7. Depending on your budget, you could possibly get a multi FX that can do it all in one go, inc amp sims/cab etc. The Zoom's/Helix stuff have GK sims in them, as well as multiple chours pedals.
  8. The TC Electronic Helix Chorus has a Duff Preset IIR, although you could probably use almost any multi knob chorus.
  9. Just seen a review that stated the Xvive lasted over 7 hours. I’ll order those today. £118 on Amazon spread over 5 months interest free.
  10. Ive read good reviews of both, that's why I can't decide. I like the idea of the Fender not having a light show on them, just one button and longer battery life (although its more than I'll ever need from one charge). Xvive is a tried and tested company I guess, and they are a bit cheaper.
  11. Cheers Bas. Yeah, I didnt mean I thought I needed the case for it to work, just that it's not a feature I care for. We have loads of USB C ports with us so if I need a top up im already covered. Id rather not pay for something i dont use. Also not looking for anything that doesn't use USB C now. I believe the Nux uses Micro USB. I too am a fan of the Xvive, I still use my 2.4ghz system at home sometimes, although I do find I get quite a few dropouts. It's well made and compact. The A58's seem to be a good upgrade but I dont see much written about them.
  12. Oh, that’s surprising. I know the Fender has a cable tone built in (like the boss system) but I’m sure that’s to reduce the top end. What did you end up getting?
  13. Im quite shocked at how much tone im missing. I had a play with the EQ last night and could get some of it back, but can't get rid of the slight phasing issue. The more top end I use, the more obvious it is. Not so much when playing along to music, but on its own its off putting. I only want it for headphone practice, would never use it with a band. I loved the Cab sim in the Nux NBP-5 so thought they would all be like this. I even loaded an IR I had in the Nux in to the MVave and it sounded completely different. Must admit I too gave up on the Helix Cab sims when I had mine, although again, that was just for headphone practice.
  14. That was my thinking, although i tend to put a bit of brightly coloured tape on the receiver anyway.
  15. By 'key's' I mean synth mostly. Those low Feqs can knock buildings down 🤣
  16. The first time I played keys through a big PA I got a shock at how much low end I had. I backed it off immediately and keep it in check these days.
  17. As per another thread, im getting a bit of interference from my Lektao WS90's under certain conditions, or rather they are causing interference. So ive been looking at the two above. I know a lot of you use the Nux, but im not interested in that as I dont want to carry a case around. I prefer to just throw the thing in my gig bag. Im also not sue I like the auto off feature. From the spec I understand the Fender has up to 8 hours from a 2 hour charge, and the Xvive 5. Either is longer than I'll really need, but the 8 will get me through a rehearsal and a few night home practice. The fender has a quoted lower latency than the others. Any thoughts on either of those mentioned? im leaning towards the Fender, but its a bit more expensive.
  18. I got the Mvave today but not sure I'll keep it. For one im now used to not using a cab sim with headphones, the EBS has a pretty good tone on its own, but another reason is the IR's I like seem to have a slight phase issue. They seem to have a very subtle hollowness about them. Also there is quite a big drop in high freqs. I will have a play with the EQ section (and the Hi Cut is full up/off), but the sparkle is gone. Still great value and I might keep it just incase I need it at some point, as the cost was pretty much nothing.
  19. I get the joke, but I use my left had (with keyboard split) to do a lot of brass/string stuff. If the bass player wants to do that (and I know how some love those silly synth pedals) go ahead, otherwise............
  20. I dont disagree with any of that, but that's not what ive been posting about.
  21. I don’t follow your post, but no need to be sorry, you are welcome to your option of course. You finish off with a reference that I first made, saying it can be done with some thought. Well isn't that what it's all about, working together? I NEVER said the bass player should change a set in stone part to accommodate the keyboard player, but if a keyboard part is written for two hands then they need to be aware of it, and again, work together. Ive played keys in a band where the bass player never bothered to really work out the songs, and would clash with not only me, but the guitarist as well as his notes were off. Are we supposed to stop playing anything in the low register to accommodate this? Also having the bass player use a tone that works with keys is definitely a step forward. Too many bass players use a muddy tone that leaves no definition in the low end. Even kick drums can get smothered by the wrong tone. Then there are the other lot that insisting on playing all over the spectrum. As for 'no keyboard part is set in stone', that made me laugh. Again, blanket statements make no sense. There are 1000's of keyboard based songs where the keyboards are very much set in stone. Two we are doing at the moment are You do something to me and Angels. Are you seriously suggestion I change the parts because they are tow hand songs? I totally get the playing at home is different argument though. when I switched to keys and looked for some tutorials for some songs it was all piano stuff, no help for learning the actual songs for a band. That I totally get, but not all keyboard players do that and my argument is more against blanket statements.
  22. Exactly. They CAN both work in the same area. Dont get me wrong, im not arguing that keys dont cause issues in some bands, but a blanket 'don’t let him/her/them/they touch the bottom octave etc is nonsense. Are we to limit how high a bass player goes on the fretboard because it's now in guitar range? Everyone needs to work together to get it to gel. Do bands with two guitarists insist one doesn't play anything because its in the same register as the other 😄 As a keys player in one band (admittedly im not very active with my left hand because im not really a piano player) I manage to stay out of the way of the bass. In fact on some songs I play a fill or run that the bass should play but doesn't. I must admit ive been in a band who had a piano player and yes, he was all over the low end, quite annoying until I sat him down and we worked it out. I made him listen to the bass line and re work his left hand. Never once telling him he shouldn't use it. it sounded great after that. It doesn't take a pro player to figure this out, just common sense. Not something everyone has though (no matter what instrument they play).
  23. Change the bass tone so it cuts through. it's all about working together. Not all bass players are even capable of holding the low end down so I don’t agree the keyboard player must only use certain parts of the keyboard. Ive seen band with awfully muddy bass tones that ruin the whole mix and you cant hear the music clearly. If it's a piano part then the bass needs to remember that a piano is played with two hands and work with the keyboard player. I agree that a keyboard player should not be playing the bass part as such, but the low end can be multiple instruments and not just bass. Band's have had keys and bass in them for years, Look at Elton John/Billy Joel etc for example. All over the keyboard, but does the bass player not get heard?
  24. .......................it goes to 12..
  25. Actually forget that, I just saw the Mvave on amazon for £29 inc Prime delivery. Also noticed it can run off USB so I can leave it plugged in. Just ordered one. For me the best feature will be the Low cut. As much as the EBS does sound great through headphones, I can't quite tame the low end as much as the Nux did with its IR on.
