  1. Not for me. It was love at first sight. Not so with my Zoom boxes, which took a lot more work .
  2. Yeah, and Andertons seem to have a lot of fretless versions as well. Might be tempted to pick up a 4 string P7 fretless if i dont get back out gigging soon. Always wanted a fretless but never actually needed one. My V7 replaced a Yamaha TRBX505 (my first ever Yamaha) and i was much happier with the B string on the Sire.
  3. It was light, and had no issues. I just felt with things the way they are, it was a bit of an extravagance, and im still not convinced i need another 5 string. My heart still lays with 4 string basses. I ddnt want another unused bass sitting around. I also fidn the more basses i have the harder it is to chose one. I would have (probably still will) sold the 425 to soften the blow, but even so. the 435 only cost £399 as it was ex display at Dawnsons. If anyone is looking for one, keep an eye on their website for it to be re listed. As it was i was put on a 3 day week from today, so right decision.
  4. I much preferred the 435 tone.
  5. Probably the wood or treatment then, (i dont really buy in to that but that's for another thread) but my 435 sounded very different to my P34, both with the same stings on them (although P34 slightly older, but hardly used).
  6. Same here. Cost me £375. Cant imagine ever selling mine either. Not only a good 5 string, but it does the Jazz bass sound better than most jazz basses ive played since getting it.
  7. This is the mod i had done on my Lakland DJ5. I also had Nordstrands put in. Nice to have the pickguard covering the cavity so i could use either P or Jazz.
  8. Ive had comps quite a few times over the years. Always GAS driven by reading about them on here. I wouldn't say i didn't like them, more that i didn't really need them and after a short while id just stop using them. I dont know what it is about the Becos, but i feel im in control of what it does, and therefore i can get out of it whatever i want. There is some very good general comp advice on the Becos website as well, that even for me was easy to understand.
  9. At home I don’t bother with the Becos, I use the 3 band comp with some settings I got from thegearpage website, which seem to work better than the stock settings for me. Live I don’t use the Helix anyway, at least not at the moment. if anyone is intreated this is what I’m using as a starting block
  10. My Becos comp is the first comp ive actually understood how to use properly. I like that i can see what's happening and tweak as needed. Although im sure the comps in the Helix are just as good, i dont find them as easy to use. I like the simple things in life.
  11. But its a cheap way to get a good passive sounding 5 string P bass. Having gigged my active Sire V7 for a couple of years, mostly in passive mode, i have no issues doing the same with a P7 if i had one. I probably would use the preamp if needed, but wouldn’t use it much.
  12. Yes, its because i want to continue using the Beco’s (sticking with the one i have) that I’m thinking about another board. Im not sure what to expect with the Thump, but if i does what I’m hoping it will, I’d use that for a bit extra EQ and ‘magic’, and my PBDDI at the end for three types of dirt/OD (and more EQ) or Stomp. Won’t need an active bass at all, but if i did end up with a P7 it would be purely a passive instrument for me.
  13. Its always fun making these up. Expensive sometimes, but fun. Good to see the Zoom being used. Not touched mine since getting the Stomp, although i do plan on getting it out soon for the drum machine. Guess we all have a bit more time on our hands at the moment. I’m quite intrigued by that new MXR Thump pedal. If i get that ill need a small board like yours.
  14. Bugger, i can see a new board build on the horizon.
  15. Thanks, it seems very basic, but I’m quite keen to try one as I think I’d need to hear the magic fairy dust bit in the flesh.
  16. It does look rather neat though doesn’t it. Quite tempted to get one myself.
  17. That’s because its Thomanns own brand 😏
  18. I’m aware of the effect when these pups are combined, ive had a couple of PJs in the past, but this wasnt so much a loss of the mids, but a full on drop in volume, and only those two strings. Definitely the PJ effect, but not in s way that was expected. I did feel the P on its own really nailed the P tone, even more than the Yamahas.
  19. Yes, it could well be a ‘feature’ of these basses. Cant say I’ve noticed it with the Yamahas though, nor any PJ Ive played before. In hindsight I hardly ever use my basses in PJ mode so I could have lived with it, but it was not something I’d except to have to on a £500 bass.
  20. IIR it was when playing the open D and G. This produced a noticeable drop in volume compared to the fretted version, and only when both pups were on. Each pup was fine on its own. Definitely not a set up issue, and really only noticeable when played with a pick.
  21. My first (and current Sire) was gigged for almost two years, almost every weekend. Easily 30+ gigs. The P7 was faulty and lasted less than two weeks. Never gigged it, never even rehearsed with it. Was still debating another when the BB425 came up. You know my feelings about the P7 i had as far as liking it. Maybe when we all get back to normal ill try again.
  22. Nice looking bass. Looks wise it matches my V7. Have you tired loosening of the top part of the knobs and re seating them a little higher (if that’s possible)? What’s the neck like? I loved the one i had for a while. Will have to come over when its safer to. Your last statement.....nah, ill give it one gig if that lol.
  23. Maybe i just miss interpreted this statement If you adjust the mids above or below the flat setting it changes the set point for the filters.
  24. Dunno, the blurb is above. Thats as much as i know. I cant see whats special about it.

    Which Helix?

Need to change my vote. I voted for HFX, but now im back to just the Stomp. I dont really need to use effects live, so keeping both seemed silly.
