  2. There might be huge technical ‘evidence’ as to why one ‘thing’ (wood, pedal, make, mode, bass) is better than another but in the end I think the majority of people make their decisions according to something far more mysterious, the vibe or the feeling they get from whatever ‘thing’ it is. There are endless threads on here (extremely helpful threads I hasten to add) on the merits of all sorts of ‘things’ that go into huge technical detail but I remain convinced that the final decisions we make about what equipment we choose is based, usually, upon highly subjective and nebulous criteria that it’s difficult to name, let alone define.
  3. Chowny SWB Pro - £650 ***SOLD*** Brand new (as in picked up last Wednesday 23rd May) Chowny SWB Pro. Bass has had no more than 10-15 minutes play. Comes with the perfect fit Gator GC-ELEC-XL hard case as recommended by @Chownybass. This is a pristine bass, reason for moving on is I just don’t get on with it, also I’ve recently bought a Rob Allen Mouse 30 which seems to be my ideal bass. No trades, feel free to come and try it out. Just ask if you want more pics.
  4. Just PMd you.
  5. ...current working title of my autobiography, there.
  6. Well the SWB-Pro has arrived and after a few days of playing I have realised it just isn't the bass for me, this is a great shame as it is a beautiful thing. It will be up for sale on here by the end of the week.
  7. What scale is this?
  8. Björk - excellent The Breeders - excellent Lump - excellent
  9. My amp has all the settings at 12 O/C, I plug straight in with no effects and I play my bass, really quite badly. Sometimes my duo partner tweaks one or two of those controls, she doesn't even bother telling me what she's doing anymore. Almost everything else bass related I run past the infinite wisdom and knowledge of the Basschat collective, via that wisdom I've found the perfect bass and the perfect amp for me and I learn so much on here, it's so cool. So I too feel very random and amateur indeed but I also know that if I get in any kind of bass quandary I have this incredible resource to hand... *sheds tear, waves hankie at brave husband from sylvan garden as he heads out over the Channel in a Spitfire* Fade to black during Lark Ascending.
  10. Having just purchased a Chowny I have to say that the quality you get for the money is astonishing.
  11. This bass looks super fabulous to me and it’s a one-off colour wise.
  12. Obviously this reasoned response is what I meant by fvck em'.
  13. This pleases me hugely.
  14. Bingo, fvck em'.
  15. I'd be walking if it were me. I'd like to be consulted about the rescheduling of the date, consulted about keyboard player stepping in, consulted about where my money was ending up. I would also like to know why so many decisions were being made without my input. Actually, thinking about it, I'm with @dlloyd... ...and @Hobbayne for that matter...
  16. And beware pickpockets on the Metro, unbelievably skillful thieves, invariably quite young but usually backed up by muscle should you decide to retaliate. I caught one with his hand in my bag soI grabbed him by one finger and attempted to snap it off his hand at which point a huge dude interjected, not before I made the f****r holler though.
  17. I have very little technical knowledge about how to get a particular tone from amps and I’ve just twiddled about with whatever amp and bass I’ve had and never really got a tone I was really happy with, until now. i never plug in any instrument I’m going to buy, electric or acoustic, I always judge it by how the instrument sounds unaided by amplification, it’s half stupidity, half Luddite tendencies, but this approach has led me down a road of dissatisfaction until I reached an AER amp with a Rob Allen Mouse 30 plugged into it. This combination has everything I want from a bass sound. I have all the tone controls on the AER at 12 O’clock and the RA Mouse only has a volume pot (it has a ‘passive high trim’ control in the back plate but I haven’t adjusted it since I got it as it sounds just right) so all the tone control really comes from my fingers. I always rolled my eyes at the ‘tone is in the fingertips’ camp but I have to say, suddenly, having discovered my perfect bass and amp I now understand and completely agree with the statement. What I assumed was the search for the perfect bass sound for me turned out to actually be the search for the perfect bass, the sound i was lookin for is a blend of this instrument and my way of playing it.
  18. Good advice, check your requirements here.
