  1. ...and you’ll be going home in it son. 😆
  2. Drove all the way to my bass lesson listening to The Specials first album, spent the lesson playing It’s Up To You, drove home listening to The Specials first album. F****** hell, Sir Horace Gentleman, just... f****** hell.
  3. Can I just fix this item on the list... 3. @wrinkleygit, Jabba’s Semi Hollow Fretless (which will be in @Frank Blank’s corner probably whilst he has a punch up with @wrinkleygit that @Jabba_the_gut tries unsuccessfully to break up but is finally resolved when lunch is dished up which scuppers @Frank Blank’s plan to steal @wrinkleygit’s Jabba built fretless because @Frank Blank has eaten so many roast spuds he can no longer fit the bass inside his resolutely unfashionable dungarees which were specifically designed to enable the nefarious deed). ‘72 Gibson EB0, SWR Working Mans 10 combo & 1x10 ext cab & a set of h’phones. Both basses strung with Labella flats
  4. Acoustic amp/cabs too, one day, one day...
  5. I hadn’t thought of that, I might have sold all three of those basses by then!
  6. It appears not, shall I kick it off..? Attendance & Gear List: 1. @Frank Blank’s Acoustic Corner - Godin A4, Rob Allen Mouse, Ibanez SRC6, QSC K12.2, Helix Stomp, HX Edit. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. You know the drill.
  7. Well this week I enjoyed Nérija very much (bass player was playing a Shine bass that sounded great), lovely to hear some current jazz, particularly liked the track Last Straw. Enjoyed Metrenomy too for no particular reason.
  8. Same here, I’ve only ever owned one but boy I wish I hadn’t sold it.
  9. Welcome.
  10. Yeah, oddly enough I’ve learned that lesson...
  11. Welcome!
  12. Hello!
  13. Genius indeed, Monk is one of my favourite musicians simply because sometimes he sounds so disjointed and dissonant but it always swings like a really big swing with a heavy thing swinging on it. What a dude.
  14. Some of the synth parts, oddly enough, remind me of the Tom Tom Club, she rocks the house two times..!
  15. Stefano Pilia and the saxophonist from Polar Bear. Sony RX100, no idea of settings.
  16. Sorry, an obscure quote from Mystery Science Theatre 3000, essentially I’m agreeing that Jaco demonstrated rather than played sometimes.
  17. He did ‘present’ like a mandrill.
  18. Calling @obbm! Thats a beautiful bass, right there.
  19. What better introduction to Basschat!
  20. This is because Sleaford Mods and Richard Dawson, between them, give all the social comment you need, while mainstream music has become (some might argue again) das opium des volkes.
  21. Which is why I actually pay attention to this thread, when the moaners start moaning about an act I start listening exactly because they all sound like my Dad who moaned about Bowie, Roxy Music, Sparks in particular and M with Pop Muzik. Naturally he hated anything punk. What in particular set me off on this relationship with this thread was the negative reaction to The Good, The Bad & The Queen after their appearance on Jools Holland, I didn’t pay that much attention when they were on but all the negativity made me watch again, loved it. As far as I’m concerned all the ‘they can’t play/sing/ it’s a racket/lift music/noise’ grouchy Dad brigade can keep the moans coming, one of the better indicators of quality in my book.
  22. As am I, really digging this.
  23. I think the first side of this album is one of the greatest pieces of rock music there is.
  24. ⬆️ This! I played standard 34” scales for decades when all the time I should have been playing short scales, I didn’t even know such a thing existed, then the first time I played one I was kind of half elated that suddenly I could play so much better than before and also gutted because I’d wasted so many years playing the wrong sized instrument. I think the important thing, especially when starting out, is to try everything...
