  1. That’s it, it’s all over, a) I am now officially an ACG fanboy (although I’m really too old to be an anything ’boy’ but fanman..? I dunno), b) I’m keeping the Harlot. It’s just back from TJC Guitars having been fully set up and restrung with Newtone Platinum Roundwounds and man it sings, no way I’d ever get a bass of its ilk again, it has that undefinable extra something that I suppose we are all looking for in a bass. It’s a GAS killer as far as fretted electric basses go. I’ve a feeling that once I get the short scale bass that @Jabba_the_gut is working on for me I’ll be done... ...mind you, I can’t get @TheGreek’s Psilios bass out of my head? There is no end to GAS is there?
  2. It’s just been back to Terry for a set up and a set of strings recommended by @skelf from Newtone Strings. It’ll be the first time I’ve played roundwounds, picking it up tomorrow morning, can’t wait.
  3. I used to be in the ‘reggae bass lines are easy, surely’ camp, until I tried playing some. It makes me realise how uptight my style of writing/playing is. I’m off to listen to LKJ.
  4. I play lined fretless with dots between the lines but that’s simply because that’s the way the Rob Allen Mouse I was lucky enough to buy off here was designed. Having said that I’d love to try an unlined.
  5. Welcome @Stippy. My bass tutor has moved to a location 30 minutes drive from you, want me to put you in touch? He’s an excellent ‘bass specific’ tutor, can’t speak highly enough of him really.
  6. I do know what you mean. I remember taking my first jazz bass up to the chap who usually sets them up for me and mentioning that at some point I’d probably get the bridge swapped out, “Why?’ He asked and when I failed to cone up with an answer he said “Because that’s what the Internet said?” He was right, I had no problem to which a swapped bridge was the solution. This is why I have sought to try with and without swapped out bridges, can’t hear any difference myself.
  7. That was an emotional journey.
  8. What is ‘the old electric soup?’
  9. I’ve made many successful and game changing decisions about basses using the wealth of experience, wisdom and knowledge of the faceless anonymous people on this forum. I agree trust your own judgement but sometimes those decisions can be made in a far more informed fashion with the help of folk on here.
  10. Perhaps imagine that the first half hour of your Saturday was the half hour you have left on a Friday to get prepped, that way you’d be prepped early on Saturday and have the rest of the day to craddock abaht.
  11. Don’t all Laklands have those? They look so unsightly, I’m with you.
  12. I have considered swapping out the bridges on previously owned jazz basses but only for aesthetic reasons as I think jazz bridges look poo but having played original and modded I don’t think it makes any discernible difference, no doubt people will disagree but you’ll not get any actual evidence of such.
  13. 1. Smoke ½ oz dub cabbage. 2. Summon ancestors. 3. Turn up at gig with golf clubs instead of bass. 4. Tee off.
  14. If you sell your bass later you can’t charge as much because it’s been “f***** about with.” Fixed.
  15. I shouldn’t worry, he’s just trying to palm you off.
