1. Amp sold (cheers Mikeypob), cabs only now available.
2. There's lots of discussion concerning the SP cabs in other threads. I've got the vintage-style silver cloth grille on my Compact, which I think sets off the OTB nicely [sharedmedia=core:attachments:152900]
3. The OTB is a bit of a 1-trick pony, but what it does it does very well. There's lots of thump, and plenty of grit available from the tube pre-amp. I guess the tone is best described as classic/old-school - it's a long way from the clean/hifi type of class-D amps that are available. I contacted Alex at Barefaced for some advice on cabs before choosing the Compact (on his recommendation). He seems very happy to discuss matching his cabs with amps, and also taking account the intended use of your prospective rig. The band I play in (pub covers band) has lots of 70's & 80's punk and New Wave (Sex Pistols, Clash, Jam, Elvis Costello, Undertones etc etc) in the current set list and the OTB & Compact sounds perfect.
4. Having re-read the OP I was using an OTB500 through a (rehearsal rooms supplied) ABM 410 last week. I think the MAG deep - presumably a 115? - would be redundant. Trousers were certainly flapping once we got going and I started to dig in....
5. I haven't unleashed my OTB500 on an unsuspecting audience yet, but it's verrrry loud in the rehearsal rooms (I haven't yet managed to get the volume knob past 30%, with the gain at about the same). I've replaced my MAG300 rig with the OTB500 and a BF Compact. The new combination is certainly louder than the old one, and the MAG was more than capable of keeping up with a beefy drummer in pub gigs!
6. I use the Hercules Mini (http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85317/GS402B%252FW/Floor_Stands/Mini_electric_guitar_stand) with my Jazz. Admittedly you've got to position the bass just so when there's a lead plugged in, because the balance point on the offest body is just where the jack is situated, but it does work. It's supplied with a nifty fabric drawstring carry-sack, and it fits easily into my bits & bobs gear bag.
7. Fender Heavy 346 for me. Like others I only use picks for a few songs, so I like that I've always got a 'point' whichever way I grab the pick.
8. Here's mine - bought when I was about 16, inspired by Bruce Foxton.... '78 US, all original [sharedmedia=core:attachments:10298]

MIM Deluxe, next to my '78 Precision [sharedmedia=core:attachments:10298]
10. Simple and straightforward (a bit like the owner really!). I think the cloth grille sets off the amp nicely.
11. The rehearsal rooms that my band uses (in Cardiff) operates a hire service. I don't know if they have the amp you're looking for, but you might be able to get something similar. It might be worth an email? www.musicboxstudios.co.uk
12. One of my favourites is Tainted Love (our version is closer to the old Northern Soul original than Soft Cell), mostly 'cos all of the girls of a certain age in the audience can't resist dancing...
13. Orange Terror? My OTB 500 sounds fantastic with BF Compact, so it'd pair nicely with a Super 12T. Your budget would get you the 1000 if you felt you needed the extra headroom.
14.
I have one of the new super midgets... I wonder how it would work with an old compact? Any1 have any idea?
When I was contemplating my purchase of a OTB 500 I contacted Alex at Barefaced about pairing his cabs with the amp. During the conversation he suggested that the new Super Compact is a better pairing with the 2nd generation Compact than the Midget!
15. Please ignore the 'Price or Trade Value' shown above - it won't change from my original unedited posting! For sale - Ashdown MAG 410 cab. I bought the cab (together with a MAG 300 head and 115 cab) in 2008 and the rig was gigged about 30 times in total. As can be seen from the photos, the cab is pretty much immaculate. The amp and 115 cab are now sold; the specifications for the 410 are listed below. I'd prefer collection (Cardiff area) due to the size/weight; courier costs will be about £45. **Edit** I've got GAS for a 4-string acoustic bass, so I'm open to negotiation on a trade. PM an offer, what have you got to lose??!? Feedback for Mace

I relieved Ieuan of a Barefaced Compact. Top bloke, cuppa and a chat as well as a painless transaction. Diolch yn fawr Ieuan

18.
The bass I learnt to play on.hondo 2 precision copy. Learning to play on firewood is quite frustrating. .
Me too, at the grand old age of 14 - I didn't know any better. On the bright side it was black/black/maple(ish), which influenced my next purchase, a secondhand '78 US Precision in the same colour scheme. The Precision was 4 or 5 years old when I bought it, and I've still got it
19.
if you miss a few bars its called "the Blues".
Listening to any blues-based riff will help. The chord changes occur on the first beat of bars 1, 5, 7, 9 and 11. If you can't identify the chord changes either you really are in trouble!
20. Just back from rehearsal - now I know what all the BF fuss is all about! Wow A faithful rendering of the OTB tone all they way through the register, no waffle or fart - just clear beautiful bass mmm. The rest of the band were complimentary too, and impressed with the (lack of) weight
21. BF Compact collected today (top bloke Mace, cheers). Can't wait until rehearsal Tuesday to give the new rig a damned good thrashing!
22.
Thanks for the info. Looks a bit like an ah um. I've got a midget, and I'm wondering now about what to match it with. I wonder now about matching first and second generation Midgets. A bit of a problem if that won't work.
Have you asked Alex? He seems quite happy to discuss your needs/preferences, particularly if you can indicate the bass, amp and any other cabs you're using. There's a link on the website.
23.
I had that setup for a while. If you like the sound of the TB, then this lot will be very pleasing. It's basically a loud 500W 1x15 setup weighing just 17kg. What's not to like? Enjoy! Geoff
It just struck me that way back when, when i was in my late teens (more years ago than I care to contemplate) with aspirations of being a rock star, I was making a racket using a big ole Laney all-valve 100w amp and a mahoosive 2 x 15 cab. Here I am after all this time back with a very similar setup, but at a fraction of the weight!
24.
Still wondering whether you can match an old Midget with a new Compact. I believe the idea was that they could be mixed because the drivers were similar. Presumably that doesn't hold now?
I asked Alex if any of the 2nd gen models would be a suitable match to the 3rd gen Super Compact. He said that he'd tried the SC with the 2nd gen Compact and would possibly recommend the combination over a 2nd gen Compact and Midget combination...
