1. Job cancelled. Funds diverted to getting the car through its MOT. Perhaps another time.....

3. SOLD Just bought from koval123 but my car MOT forces a sale. To be honest I'd rather flog the car than this bass but I think the current Mrs McKay would have something to say about that! The bass is in good condition. It's been well looked after and properly maintained. The neck is made of some dark exotic wood (most likely padauk) with rosewood fretboard, body is of maple with beautiful curly maple top on mahogany veneer. All this in satin wax finish. Hardware-wise it sports Warwick 3D bridge, Warwick tuners, brass saddle and Schaller straplock pins. Neck is nice and smooth with truss rod working as it should, jumbo frets have plenty of life left (minor signs of use). There are some small scratches and marks on the wood surface. The sound is warm and punchy, with lots of mids. 4. SOLD: Yamaha TRBX504 in Stealth/Matte Black I'm in Glasgow and will reduce the price by £25 if you can collect in person. Recently bought from a fellow BCer (Vinny) this is one of a pair that I am selling (getting my car through it's MOT is now more of priority!). The first one has been sold. This particular bass has 4hrs on the clock. Great build quality and has some really great features. The bass is well balanced and sits nicely on a strap. 5.
Hi, I'm very intrested in buying this bass, but since you are new to the forum and don't have any feedback yet that proves that you are a trustworthy seller I wanted to ask you if you would be willing to ship the bass first and then get payment after the bass has arrived? I just don't feel save sending money to a seller with zero feedback, with no disrespect, I hope you understand. (I can pay with paypal so you get the money in your account the same day the bass arrives here) Kind regards, Don ps: I have tons of positive feedback on this forum, both as seller and buyer, so you can be sure I will send you the money once the bass has safely arrived at my home.
Hi Don You'll find Koval123's feedback thread here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/279394-feedback-for-koval123/ Cheers, DavidMckay
6. Update: Sold on Gumtree but I am now selling the other one. Same Spec but in as new condition with 4 hrs on the clock.
7. "Then, the next week, I imagine I am playing in a smooth jazz outfit and buy a double bass and a dinner suit." That's me! That's me! I recognised myself instantly!
8. To the OP I've got pins 'n' plates in my left hand also and I find that the slimmer/thinner necks of the Yamaha and Ibanez basses help somewhat. I also find that your choice of songs will help. I tend to go for the tunes where I can play mid way up the fingerboard to reduce any stretching wherever possible. No point in trying to learn tunes that force you beyond what your wrist is comfortable with. Hope you find what you are looking for - and have fun doing it!
9. Because it is too easy to get credit and instant gratification these days, and like a sugar rush, it is over very quickly. I always think of TheThe's song 'True Happiness This Way Lies' when I think of GAS. I remember my first guitar. A friend's Dad was selling it and I had to pay him £20 down and then £20 per month for 4 months. Then I could take it home and actually call it mine. This was 37 years ago and I remember more about this guitar than any other I have owned. I also recall spending hours learning to play it. Mind you - I didn't have the Internet to distract me. Thing is - if you don't have access to the funds/credit then you make do and mend, you use what you've got. Still, we should take comfort that we are no different than the armies of golfers up and down the country who pour money into the latest clubs and still shank into the long grass. And at least we don't get soaking wet playing the bass. David and credit
10.
None. I'll post some photos of the neck over the weekend.
Photos of the neck now added. David
11.
Any dents in the back of the neck ?
None. I'll post some photos of the neck over the weekend.
12. Bought a lovely GMR bass from JK (koval123). Hassle-free transaction. Would recommend. David McKay
13. Didn't Sting play with the Police? Boom, boom!
14. I paid for a bass yesterday and it froze at the point of sale. I was bricking it as I thought that if I did a screen refresh I'd end up paying for the item twice! Turned out OK but there was obviously something not working right.
15.
So what is that? As you say the body on it is rather lovely
Hi Sprocketflup It is a GMR Bassforce: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274025-sold-gmr-bassforce-4-string-blonde-beast-sold/ Hand-made in Poland. A 2005 model, or thereabouts. I just think it looks absolutely gorgeous - a really nice organic-looking piece that has beautiful lines and that boutique appearance. I think it just has to be fretless to bring its beauty to another level.
16. I say 'boutique bass', but perhaps others would describe it as a very posh 'bitsa'. Anyway - to the tale..... I recently bought a pair of Yamaha TRBX504 basses in Stealth/Matte Black from fellow BCers and I had arranged for Jon Shuker (Shuker Basses) to fit a fretless fingerboard to one of them. Not a fretless conversion but an actual full fingerboard replacement with a beautiful slice of Macassar ebony. But then I came upon this item for sale, fell in love with it and bought it (I now have one of the Yamahas for sale if anyone is interested!): However there is a problem. I feel the bass is let down a bit by the shape and condition of the headstock: So I got back in touch with Jon Shuker and asked if we could up the ante to a full neck replacement, fretless fingerboard and 33" length while we are at it. He said "Yes". I wont go into prices here but I was pleasantly surprised at the quote for the work - especially when one considers what Jon's products sell for. If you are needing any work or servicing done I would encourage you to check out his website for a list of options and prices. Did you know he even runs a course where you can build your own bass? How cool is that! I was 50 last year and if I had known about the courses then, I would have dropped a major hint to the current Mrs. McKay! Jon should receive the bass soon (I arranged for the seller to ship directly to Shuker Bass) at which point we will agree on woods for the neck. I say agree - what I really mean is I'll leave it entirely up to Jon's judgment! I'll post some more pics as things progress, but I guess my main point is that I have bought and sold many basses in my journey towards 'the one', but perhaps it isn't out there. Perhaps it is what you love from one bass, with a bit of what you desire from another, topped off with something else you happen to like. I don't know, but I feel I am getting closer with this one. As a side note. I am not loaded, but then again I am not actually paying that much for this work (especially when I consider what friends spend on golf clubs and clubhouse fees per year - so I guess it is all relative), and I can't even play the bass that well, but if I let that stop me I wouldn't get anywhere. Oh, and I am keeping the other Yamaha as it is a total slap/funk machine. Thoughts/comments welcome. Speak soon, David
17. Cheers Tobie This bass holds its own against more expensive Warwick and Ibanez models. You are getting a lot of bass for your money with Yamaha.
18. Update: Sold on Gumtree but I am now selling the other one. Same Spec but in as new condition with 4 hrs on the clock. Yamaha TRBX504 in Stealth/Matte Black - £260 Delivered (possibly a bit more if shipping is to EU) Recently bought from a fellow BCer but then a GMR caught my eye, and - well you know how the rest goes! I actually bought 2 of these from Basschat within 2 days of each other (one from Marvin, the other from Vinny) as I was going to have Jon Shuker (Shuker Basses) fit a fretless fingerboard to one of them, however I am now going for a complete neck replacement on the GMR so one of the Yamahas has to go. I will be keeping the other as it is a total slap machine. Great build quality and has some really great features. 19. Bought a Yamaha 4 string from Vinny. Excellent deal, good communications and the packaging was first-class. Highly recommended.
20. I don't usually like Jazz basses, but this looks really nice - perhaps because of the pickups? I'm so used to seeing these as blank/plain black on jazz basses. GLWTS.
