should i accept a compromise on a new bass ?
Geek99 replied to mushers's topic in General Discussion
Just as an aside, the reason for complaint would be 'unsatisfactory quality' rather than 'unfit for purpose'. Unfit for purpose is when goods cannot be used for their intended purpose, e.g. if you'd been sold a guitar rather than a bass, but it doesn't refer to the quality of the goods.
As a law graduate, I respectfully disagree. Unfit for purpose has a broad meaning, and is taken in context of the item in question. If adjusters don't adjust, it's unfit. NB the seller must have a chance to rectify, and they should get this chance first
As has been already said, you'll probably find yourself on a sticky wicket trying to pursue this now and a diplomatic approach to DV247 is probably your best bet.
Yes, totally agree, negotiation and dialogue is always best -
The laws on returning goods are a l. Your local Trading Standards & CAB can advise on that. But do check with Trading Standards office for chapter & verse - they should also be able to tell you if the shop has a history of complaints which will help you. FWIW, from what you say & the tech - it sounds like the neck is twisted?
No, the law is very clear. It should be of suitable quality and fit for purpose. If if isn't, I'd it has adjusters that don't work, or stuff is wonky, reject it immediately, and do it in writing quoting section 14 of the sale of goods act. Invite them to collect it, but take photos of it before they do. By all means get another store to give an expert opinion, but do not ever let them change it in any way. The cost of the item is completely irrelevant - if it's not good enough, reject it -
My little one has started to go to nursery so my partner gets more done during the day so I have to do less. I just had my first evening practice in three years
Is the software this application? The system requirements don't say anything about requiring a MIDI interface - just a normal sound card. If this isn't the application can you provide a link to it showing the system requirements?
That's the one BUT 1) it constantly nags about the lack of a midi input 2) old 16 bit sound cards used to have a midi in 3) avanquest themselves told me it needs mid 4) the packaging doesn't clearly say that , I agree 5) if you check the review on amazon you'll see I added this information to assist unwary purchasers 6) id still need a conversion unit

No, it doesnt recommend a unit - it just expects midi input - I assume it wants a MIDI sound card.

Bass to <box> to pc (USB) Software is "interactiv bass course" which needs midi input to rate user's note choice, timing, dynamics for tuition and feedback purposes
Sonuus also do the I2m 'instrument to midi' USB interface. It even works with the iPad. Mono in, MIDI oit via USB and also acts as a high quality audio recording interface and is physically very small!
I'll take a more detailed look at that one - anyone rate the behringer midi converter ?
If it's just for transcription then I use a pair of these: Again, the tracking isn't 100% accurate, but I find the more I use them the better they are.
Thanks - I did say tho I wanted it to work with a teaching package
-
Thanks - its what I asked for but It's not what I wanted I should have added that I want a USB out that can feed midi from mono input - don't want to buy a midi card Thabks

Hi all Would like to sell this Ibanez SRX595 - its a 24 fret 5 string with a stunning flamed maple cap front and back. Volume, blend, treble cut/boot, bass cut/boost. No buckle rash as you can see. I just donbt have time to learn 5 string and use it properly so my jazz and pbass are getting my time. Would trade reluctantly, prefer to sell if at all possible I think this is probably worth £200 with postage at cost on top, but if you want to make a sensible offer (or less preferably ) have a bass to trade I'm always open and listening, in which case PM me? Prefer collection/meet/delivery within sensible radius for fuel for obvious reasons I live near j27 of M1 - Nottingham/mansfield pics: thanks for reading.

cards in music shops work, I would imagine. Thats how i found a teacher You could also get some cards printed (if you gig) because people might ask you after your set about taking up bass

Seems what I have is an indonesian made 2006 with the white faded to something like Olympic white, the pickups are marked "Duncan designed". The rw board came up well after a clean and lemon oil. Body has a couple of minor dings that have been carefully painted over. Pots are a bit crackly but I can sort that. Never thought I'd like p basses but this is really quite nice. No sharp fret ends.

ok - a mixed bag of responses there. Quality seems to be an issue.
I've been wanting to get some of these for ages, still trying to convince the landlord to let me put them up. The joys of renting!
be careful, since they join to the walls, they belong to the landlord afterwards under current case law
-
Thanks That's very encouraging- I bought the black and white one for a good price. I guess if I don't get on with it (historically ive had jazz basses) I can always sell it on here
-
Does anyone have an opinion on them ? Don't see many in the For Sale section which is either very good or very bad
-
I know it's a guitar question, I'm very very sorry.

I found glass easier in the bad old days of playing thin wimpy strings. Brass was a bit clanky. Now go and beat yourself up for messing with the dark side
