2. I'm going to regret this one I know it........ For sale: Fender USA Vintage 70's Jazz Hot Rod Further and final PRICE DROP £1050 for a stunning bass! That's CS quality for less than American (bog) standard money!!!!! 3 tone sunburst , rosewood fret board with period inlays..... Build quality on this USA made bass is exceptional. Sounds just incredible with the Jazz pick up set far back to the high mass bridge and the p pups , can't tell you how good they sound with the tone rolled off.....I'm not sure I'd ever find a better fender and genuinely fear selling it for this reason.... You know, the one you should never have sold and all that.... It has never left the house and has just one tiny mark little bigger than a pin head on the back of the upper curve. (Out of sight) other than this tiny mark, it is as brand new. Comes with vintage leather case and all the case candy. Would prefer a collection from Runcorn/ Merseyside but could do courier if pressed..... 3.
Would have sounded the same played on a guitar, with a similar tone. Pleasant noodling, but ultimately pointless on a bass.
Pointless ? And of course ,you'd be entitled to your opinion.......... Musical tastes vary hugely of course but if you can't see or appreciate on some level what's happening here theres something wrong.... To suggest it's pointless is just silly.
4. I have the 74 reissue hot rod jazz and it is outstanding build quality, playability and sound..... Lot of cash yes, but something speacial if you like your fenders
5. Apologies if you have all already seen this....... Just outstanding .... http://youtu.be/m5IjIqthPzE Wonky
6. A long time ago, My first "real" bass ( after a nasty but playable p bass by marlin) was a 4 string bass collection. Must have done 1000 gigs with it then switched to the 5 string version........ Great little cheap basses, super light super slim necks too.....
7. Granjur, a genuine thank you , on count of compliment and consideration..... Alias came out a lot faster than we intended but it works well enough.... You can really hear the desperation of the band trying to deliver that song having only ever played it a few times hahahaha Still listen to it and can't get over the fact the drummer only has a snare and a ride cymbal.... That's it ! Sounds so full .... There is a great song on the end of it called that's my dad...... Bit of a sad story really, we recorded one album and poor Al lost his dad mid way through..... He wrote that's my dad and we did it on this last album.... Such a sweet a perfectly lovely song... http://alroberts.bandcamp.com/track/thats-my-dad We are meeting tomorrow night to rehearse and learn another batch of al's songs.... A gig lined up for early December too im told... Just hope I can be fight fit in the night...... It's been a while
8. Looking forward to seeing a date finalised ? Would love to come meet some of you guys and talk all things bass Would bring the ever interesting 2ohm mesa walkabout rig incase anyone wants to whitness invoulantary bowel movement inducing type frequencies ????
9. Very good McCartney is a highly underrated bass player..... A style of melody and rhythm which can at times be hard to replicate... Keep up the good work
10. Original post....read your line up.... You mention no drummer ? Tell him there's an opening there ?
11. Headphones work well enough but eq through these tablets Lap tops is poo But I'll take your comments and not whine like a be'atch hahahaha
12. Cheers chaps.... The squeeze ref we hear a lot, and when I sing along myself in the car I can't help but sing that low octave chris differs type harmony.... Sound s good to my ear ? I'm from liverpool but the others are from just outside..... Alyctes, did you listen on headphones or through an amp/ hifi ? If not it does seem to drop out in parts as I move up the neck? Maybe the frequencies here don't work well with ipad/ laptop type......? But if you did, fair do's I'll focus on it:) Thanks
13. Same here to be fair..... Not really my cup of tea but its non the less credible in its own right i guess.....
14. Wow, thanks boy.....that's really very nice.... Meeting them next Tuesday to see if we liked it enough to try and make it a regular thing.... No idea where we could find a gig with that kind of stuff but, sod it..... I enjoy playing with them... All a pretty easy going bunch of blokes too
15.
What are you saying here? Seems contentious, snobby and provocative on the surface but perhaps it's just badly worded?
Scratch beneath that surface and it says the same thing.... Nothing snobby or provocative about it, it's just my opinion having attempted to play with both. Not trying to provoke anyone
16.
I hope you don't mind, I fixed it for you !
Hahaha Yep ...... that'll do pig, that'll do.
17.
I'm on it!!
Ooo oo ooo ooo I wanna see what you fettle !
18. Urban tumble weed ? ...... Well, I did ask
19. Cheers guys, all comments are genuinely welcomed..... I agree with the "accent" comment.... Yes, Agree with that..... But such is the job of the bass man to turn and play The point on vocal mix is bang on too, I feel it's too far forward in the mix, but the reality is, we recorded 10 tracks in one day and they are pretty much as they landed in the mix, the backing vox and the VERY rough mix was done in little more than an evening 6-11 ish... with mostly just the levels being ironed out and a bit of compression.... So Yep, no effect at all really which leaves it all a bit raw..... But it's a demo, we knew it would be a "draft" ..... it gets the tracks down I suppose. The drummer was on snare and brushes with a ride cymbal only.... That's it..... Dobro is week in the mix but the player only bought it the week before just to suit the vibe , my own feelings were that a week before a recording was not the time to learn a new style- instrument hahaha but he pulled it off well enough ( he's a great country/ travis picker )..... There's no real intention to do anything with it, the songwriter simply has a raft of songs he's wrote and wants to get them down before they disappear into the ether ..... Your compliments are very kind, thanks... As far as genre, any suggestions ? I can't relate it to anything. ......
20. Couldn't give two shits if anyone out front knows how much my gear cost.... It's how comfortable it is for me to play and that usually brings out the best in my playing..... And that's what they should be hearing... But this view does fall on its arse as soon as you plug in the squire p bass which may be set up sweet and play beautifully, but the output is just thin and hollow sounding??? Amplification/ cabinet is important , I'm sure I can get great tones from my mesa that would be just impossible from an old Carlsbo or the HandH I had 25 years ago when I started.....why would my bass be any different. End of the day it's horses for courses..... I have it coz i likes it.
21. For any fettlers out there, I saw a genuis product the other day called plastimake. It's on ebay for about 5 quid a bag. It's a bag of plazzy polymer , you put some in boiling water for 5 mins then scoop it out, mould it into any thing you like, then set it by putting it in cold water....... The possibilities are endless in terms of craft, bodge repair....... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nMAd4FpXpy4 Watch the link....... LET THE BODGING BEGIN !!!!!
