1. Sometimes i find the suggestions in the Q&A on listings far more amusing than the actual items for sale.
  2.
Gotta share this - you can pick these up for about £175 posted brand new. I have bought this to there attention and if I don't hear anything back I may have to report this one to save some poor kids Christmas money. Hopefully is nobody on BC - if so they shouldn't be. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649
Just out of interest who may you report this to?
  3.
Every time I see break dancing, I can't help thinking "Oh dear, those youngsters are going to have terrible trouble with their knees when they're older..."
I thought that's why it was called break dancing................
  4.
Are they really that cheap though? Thomann seem to be offering new ones for £156, including the pickguard! Still, if you want a bass to finish yourself, then this probably is an ideal thing to start from.
The 'Primer' model was £199 when launched and Thomann sell a 34" scale 'B stock' one for £179.
  5.
Except it seems these days that everyone loves to message the seller telling them that they have a rare one of a kind worth a chunk of money bass etc...
Thanks, that always makes me laugh when i see that on ebay. It reminds me of a bloke i knew who owned a record shop some years ago. Punters used to come in and say 'd'ya know what you got 'ere mate?' and that he was selling all the vinyl too cheap. 'Buy it all then' was his answer. You know the rest i'm sure............
  6.
Good price on these but not sure I buy the explanation. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5d37d82597 More likely they were left over from the Damien Hirst versions or the manufacturer decided to sell them off cheap...if they were so "successful" why a run-out special?
These were announced in September with the blurb the UK importer wanted people who had bought one and painted it to then post pics on the importers facebook and twitter. Just noticed that it says all that in the ebay listing. It seems that they didn't get enough budding artists to take them up on their original offer. Can't complain though for £149 delivered.
  7.
The front of the headstock looks very dark too, compared to the rest of the neck
That's not unusual on a Fender bass of that age if mine are anything to go by.
  8.
Received one of those 45squid Thomann bass on Friday (10yo daughters Christmas pressie). Well for 45 quid you really cant go wrong! OK, a couple of "finish" niggles here and there and the back of the neck is bare wood, which I dont like. The nut looks a bit of a mess and is the worst bit, but still the action is very good, and it was in tune out of the box. Only played for a minute or so, quickly before hiding it (in a old flight case of mine), so not plugged it in. I thought I heard that the intonation might be a bit out, so will try and sort that out before Santa delivers it. But it is definately well playable, and I thought that the dimentions of the neck and body suited the size very well and it is nice and light. At 45 quid an absolute bargin as far as I am concerned (fits a guitar gig bag nicely - £7 from Thomann) and there was a lead in the bass box as well. I wouldnt want it to be my only bass, but for a child it is perfect and more than adequate for the situation.
I was slightly hesitant but took the plunge and bought a Harley Benton Electric Mandolin from Thomann. For £77 it's well made, the finish is good and it does the job and having compared it to other chinese Mandocasters that cost between £125 - £180 reckon it was an absolute bargain.
  9.
Do Warwick do kevlar t-shirts ?
I do hope so. As long as they're roadworn of course.
  10. Very nice. I'm tempted but it's just a bit more than i can justify (to myself!) spending on one.
  11. I like them because they are short scale. The Jet II is also worth looking at.

    Guild B302
I played one on Saturday and it was definitely £513.00p It had some wear but played and sounded beautifully. Give em a ring and ask for Gary.
Thanks. I wasn't doubting you but could only see the rather lovely B302 with Mahogany body. £513 sounds like a bargain for one.
Promenade Music have one in that's rather nice. It's a 302A and they want £513 for it.
I can only see the Mahogany bodied 302 which is £950 on their website.
  14.
Does anything else need to be said other than that picture? Liam
Only two words....................Jonas Hellborg
  15.
Or one can buy through trade tang, Chinese site, plenty on there, from around 200 delivered, the blue ones look pretty!
It does look nice. Nice detailed photos of all the guitars and basses but none of the front side of the headstock.
  16. Nice to see real used and worn example. Far superior to me than a bass that's had an encounter with a sander and a few blows with a hammer in a factory.
  17.
Rockinbetters sold by dealers without a Tokai dealership. A fairly cursory search reveals that.
That's correct. I've been in two guitar shops recently that had new Rockinbetters on display but didn't stock a single Tokai.
  18.
If only we had a time machine to go back in time and bring home a load of guitars !
Very true! I can't remember how much a full price USA Precision was at the time but i remember these being a bargain (if you could put up with the colour). This was circa 1980 so tastes were a lot different then! P.S. I've just remembered what my avatar was after i mentioned taste. Again, another example of 80s taste!
  19. This is a fascinating thread but going off topic slightly it got me thinking (yeah i know it's dangerous!) that all the Rockinbetters i've seen are RG4003s (Bound Body with Triangle Inlays). Some websites list an RG4001which doesn't have a Bound Body and has Dot Inlays.
  20. I seem to remember in the early 1980s Tempo(?) in West London had a batch of USA Fender Precisions for a more than reasonable £225 as long as you wanted an Orange or Yellow one.
  21. That's really cool. I think i have a custom shop relic jerry can in lake placid blue in my shed somewhere.
  22.
Chicago, in their early days, with Peter Cetera. Outstanding presence on their first two LPs.
Couldn't agree more.
  23.
The Smiths Joy Division / New Order Weather Report Japan Parliament / Funkadelic / Bootsy's Rubber Band
Parliament / Funkadelic had many excellent bass players before and after Bootsy. William 'Billy Bass' Nelson Lige Curry Cordell "Boogie' Mosson Prakash John Rodney 'Skeet' Davis Jimmie Ali Jimmy G plus Ron Ford, Steve Washington and multi-instrumentalist Junie Morrison all played bass on Parliafunkadelicment recordings.
