1. Never heard of them will look it up thanks
2. Can spot a sig in the paint just below the controls but can't make it out
3. Thanks that's a really kind offer. I may take you up in it after a bit more research I'm hoping some one with the Shortbass one gets intouch as well as they look like they have a bigger body so I'm guessing they are louder? Can only really find reviews of the Kalas
4. Spotted this is it a customshop job or has the finish been added to a standard dolphin1 either way I have always loved the dolphin. http://m.ebay.com/itm/331595524818
5. I'm off on a trip to Europe a bit later in the year in my old VW and I have been looking at the small acoustic/Ubasses to take with me but it seems the market is growning and I'm confused as to which to go for? Kala seem the most established but does anyone have a Shortbass or Ortega or even the countryman basses if so what would you recommend?
6. No i have gone for a Pbass in the end one of the American Special Sandblasted body's. Fell in love with one in a shop and couldn't put it back down๐Ÿ˜€. I'm more than happy now and it sounds killer through the Orange. If I could find an 1983 YOB Pbass for the right price though Haha
7. It is a cracking bass as much as I love fretless I couldn't find enough of a use live to make keeping it an option. Glad you love it though an instrument like that deserves the right home.
8. Yeah it took far to long and means I'm going to have to do a few small repairs around the edges from when I got impatient but I think it will look great. I'm hoping to Get the plane out on Sunday and maybe some sanding as well but as a minimum I shall start some plans and templates to make sure it will build up correctly after the wood work.
9. Right it has been a while but I am making some progress. I have the body stripped of its damaged poly(I don't want to be doing that again anytime soon.... Talk about effort!) and I have ordered a nice bit of wood to add to the top. So hopefully I will have some exciting pictures to put up
10. I'm hoping to take a few mill off the body I have as it seems to be a nice piece of alder or ash I will then fill the pickup and control cavity fit a top to the existing body (I'm guessing 5mm or thicker) then route new pickup cavities and a rear control cavity.
11. I was originally looking for a 30" semi yes to replace a guild I had a while ago even sold a few basses to get some funds together I then played this Pbass and it was better than anything I expected or have played for a while. Just clicked with it
12. Will do my best when I get time may take me a week or so though as im working this weekend And more importantly going to be at Glasto from Tuesday ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€
13. Thanks i ended up going for a Pbass fell in love with one as you do
14. So can anyone recommend a good supplier for a top wood?
15. So with my pickups arriving I have come to a a point where I could just throw it all together as it is or take it to the next level. Watching some of the other builds on basschat has made me want to give it a try so I'm going to strip back the body to bare wood fill the existing pickup and control cavity then fit an exotic wood top
16. So it has been a long wait but my pickups have finally arrived. So that is a pair of Darkstars! bridge and neck with Fender spacing and custom coil taps. I have to say just looking at the quality of the work that Curtis has done I'm very pleased i waited to have them made. Im looking forward to fitting them unfortunately with work and then the small matter of Glastonbury I'm probably only going to have the time to do some drawing of plans for placement etc. here is a quick snap straight out the packet.
17. Can't recommend the sandblasted finish enough it's very tacktile and has a satin feel to it totally different the normal Fender soild colours. Plus it changes depending on the light.
18. Quick couple of photos added
19. So this a long story that has hopefully come to an end. After a year or so of buying, swapping and struggling with a few basses of all shapes and sizes (to the point of my family, friends and bandmates decided i had a Bass buying problem) i have come to find the Bass for me. Rather than bore you with all the details i will give you an overview of the last few months in which i made a number of decisions which has lead to this point. Firstly high end Bass Guitars are well worth the money and i have had 3 in recent times that were great but if you are like me worried about gigging them they end up in case in the spare bedroom. So this has lead me to sell and swap a Dingwall SPJ a Mike Lull and a 1976 Fender Jazz bass. The next two purchases happened within a short period of time really i spotted in the Basses for sale section of this very site an Everson Fretless which i ended up buying after a small regret of selling a Sei Flamboyant 5string Fretless an number of years ago. This was a great bass again with a real punchy tone but for the kind of music i am mostly playing with my band at this time a pretty useless purchase in the end so that bass to was moved on. The sale of the Everson leads to the final part of the saga a TWO yes TWO bass within TWO weeks. The first of the two basses was a 62 Fender japan VSP Jazz in candy apple red purchased online from Classic and Cool Guitars a stunning Bass (and Mark is a legend) BUT!!! and this is my own fault for breaking my own rule of not playing a bass before you buy I could not get on with the neck the thick lacquer and profile meant I couldn't get on with it. I was quiet at work and with a gig coming up i dropped into a local retailer just for some strings o my lunch and my eyes were drawn to the back wall of Basses (normally only lower end basses) but this time one stood out. I fell for a Fender Pbass Limited Edition Sandblasted. it was taken into a corner plugged into a pretty poor Ashdown combo but the basses tone shone through with a neck that felt right straight away. So decision made the Jazz was collected and part exchanged and the Pbass was mine. Now i have not put the Bass down since it has been gigged and sounded great with loads of positive comments and that finish its tactile and frankly stunning. So i have found the bass for me not to expensive to use has a great tone and Stunning finish.
20. So just had an email to say my pickups are on the way! ๐Ÿ‘
21. Can highly recommend Mark at classic and cool or bass direct
22. Yeah it is a way I'm a lot closer and its a good hour and a half from me but a good excuse to make a day trip! Just a thought unless you know of a shop closer that stocks what your after.
23. My advise would be if you can get to Bass Direct try the rebops they have in stock see if you like it and while your there try the secondhand Warwicks and for me the Dingwall Combustions they have in stock. If you are looking for a new bass I would always play one to save disappointment of not liking what you buy.
