Here's a shot of us a few weeks back. Got an awesome guy down to where we jam to take a few pic's. was fun. more of his work here at [post="0"]http://www.wip-tricky.com/[/post]
Haha! Excellent! Tell your drummer to get rid of those sticks though -
second hand neck through model if you can, I have a streamer stage one. other wise the streamer $$ seem to get good press recommend playing anything before buying though!
Why a neck through? Is the bolt on a problem? Cheers.
End of the month???? We can't wait that long!
I know, I know. I'm desperate to get hold of it! However, the paint I got from Tonetech is pre-catalysed nitrocellulose so it will be dry enough to sand back after a week, then leave for two days to ensure it's hard enough to polish. So the fisnished bass will be ready quicker than originally planned. I'll need to put the bass together before painting though, to make sure everything is aligned and distanced properly. I've just realised for instance that my pickguard design is too big to acommodate the Hipshot Rickenbacker bridge, and the control route may be too big to make the pickguard much smaller, but I should be able to just get away with it!

The asking price is too much I reckon.
Some years ago I bought a Jazz bass, consigning my old Bass Collection SB301 to the loft. It's still sitting up there stringless, and I thought it would be good to make little project of some description...but what should I do with it? The only things I can think of at the moment are to either de-fret it, or to maybe string it BEAD or ADGC perhaps (would need a new nut probably and would it need the bridge saddles filing?) but does anyone else have any other fun/clever ideas?
I hope you slackened off the trussrod?!

A $$ will sound massive and the active circuitry adds massive boost and cut. I have Corvettes because I don't like the Streamer shape. Agree going seconhand is the best route if you want to save cash but getting exactly what you want new may be a more viable option. I bought my Corvette STD fretless new and don't for a second regret it. Also bear in mind that older models will have different neck profiles whereas the new ones are fairly standard. They are also more like the Geddy Lee Jazz than the baseball bats of a couple of years ago. I like both neck profiles however, and the standard jazz-like nut width is perfect for me.

Reading this at the moment, along with Bill Bruford's autobio. Both excellent reads! Has anyone noticed in the Jah Wobble book how often he says "in regard to"? It's on almost every page, two or three a page sometimes. I find it mildly annoying but it's a great read nonetheless.
no. how?
It's pronounced "The average human penis is 6 inches long whereas the average human vagina is 7 inches deep. Given that the world population is about 6.8 billion and 64% of that is adult, that's about 4.5 billion inches of unused vagina, and 5 feet 4 inches of it is posting on basschat at the moment."
Well, that'll lull her into a false sense of security! Good starting point. And probably wise to miss out the first few Mothers albums. IMO, One Size Fits All is a good starting point. Zoot Allures is also very accessible, but the material's not his best IMO. Mrs Endian will almost listen to both of those. (I also think Bongo Fury grooves like a bastard (in a very, very good way), but I know I'm almost alone in that respect.) Also, Ship Arriving Too Late..., but probably leaving out "Drowning Witch" until she's feelin' the Zappa-groove. Hell, why not sit down for a couple of hours with Joe's Garage? A storyline to follow, genuinely funny and some serious tunes on there.
She'll like Ruben Ahh, Zoot Allures (the track) is what I will show her from the Does Humour Belong in Music vid. One size is a great album but it's too similar to The Grand Wazoo which she can't stand. She likes Valley Girl and The Blue Light.
+1 Hey Nigel I had a listen and what you're doing sounds good my only suggestion - and this is something I had to learn early on when learning about jazz - was that you don't start a tune playing all quarter notes like on the first melody or 'head' in a standard you can just sustain a root note on the one of each bar, or play two in the bar on the 1 and 3. If you do the later and double it to quarter notes every other bar your lines will breath a bit more, but aside from that keep it simple and from the sound of it you've got the idea of using chromatic lines, root, fifth and octaves. I also thought you were pushing the time a little hard, I find it quite hard to play behind the beat too, but try experimenting with a more laid back feel but the most important thing is to work with your drummer and push or pull depending what they do. A nice thing is to practice is just groovng a walking line with your drummer and getting a really swinging groove going together... hope all that helps. Sounds good overall though
Thanks mate! It's a cover of a very heavy tune by System of a Down andI sort of wanted an exciting "rock" version, so it's sort of a pastiche of the real thing. The walking sections are very short so I wanted to establish that feel immediately, if I was trying to actually play a walking jazz piece for five minutes I completely agree I should start slowly and build up to quarter and eighth notes. It does feel a bit pushy doesn't it. Thanks again, Mike.
I think the gloves look great Silddx, I too wasn't sure from the original thread but they work. I assume they just take getting used to?
Not at all really, they feel different for a few minutes but before you know it they feel perfectly normal. In fact when I took them off and played it felt really odd, like walking with no shoes on I bought another pair from adifferent supplier on ebay but they were crap. The ones from Jasmine Silk are great though. -
What sort of surname is Thunes? c***.
Hello Steve, Do you know how to pronounce it?
Which albums have you got planned?
Anyone's guess at the moment. But probably a track or two from each of .. Cruisin' With Ruben and The Jets Apostrophe Live in New York Roxy & Elsewhere Tinseltown Rebellion Sheik Yerbouti London Symphony Orchestra You Are What You Is Them or Us TBBYNHIYL Make a Jazz Noise Here And a few tracks from Does Humour Belong in Music so she can see his band in action. Any other suggestions? I want to demonstrate the evolution of his catalogue but mostly the diversity, without making her feel like her brain's been pushed through mush (as the Baron Harkonnen would say).
Saw ZPZ at the Brighton Centre with Plux, you are in for a hell of a treat mate! Best guitar sound I've ever heard live, really incredible, and a fantastic band, keep you eyes on the sax player, she's ace!
Thanks mate!
Got my tickets for the 6th - Can't wait!
I'm going to the ZPZ gig and the audience with Scott the next day, I can't wait either! Mrs silddx is going to both too, and even wants me to play her a selection from Zappa's catalogue and wants to read the Scott Thunes interview in In Cold Sweat, in preparation for her attendance at the events. This is a rather remarkable turnaround She's always hated Zappa's music.

I thought if the item was worth less than £18 you don't pay any charges?
Hi Nige Do you have a link for this - I'm having problems on this computer seeing embedded videos for some reason! I always thought that Thunes seemed to be a bit of a d1ck as a person, but still a great bassist in a truly great band......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bksTWhelw0Y...player_embedded He just seems to speak his mind and won't tolerate liars. He does seem a bit odd though.
It says £10 per ticket on the link incidentally.
It's wrong, as are some of their other ticket prices. Click the "book now" link for the real prices.
Nice pics mate, looking cool and they really show how much you love your music. The lady in the middle pic, is that Krupa? She's nice  I tell you what *looks over shoulder to see if wife is around* if I wasn't married, was a lot younger, had extensive plastic surgery, put some time in the gym, worked on my personality and bumped off any potential rivals, well I think I'd be in with a chance you know. I thought, when the topic came up first of all, it would look just plain stupid, but it doesn't - you pull it off spectacularly well. Of course not everyone could - if I wear all black I look like a pile of lorry tyres. Hey ho.
Thanks man -
