3.
Clown Whores... the lot of you...!
Innit! I mean Inti!
 4. My new 1983 USA Jazz, it's adorable, a very sexy bass indeed. A dream Fender neck for me, shallow, solid, glossy, a delight to play.
 5. That's brilliant, really touching too.
 6.
'The Chin' is a brilliant name for it!
7.
The first nuts on stringed instruments were made from cashew nut due to the ease of use of the material and the abundance of them. They changed to bone (and a variety of other materials) after the cashew nut 'corroded' and wore down, usually over the space of a few months.
I have a Top Bone. And Top Nuts actually
 8. It's called the Top Nut actually. And like you, I've no idea, but then I've never asked. The question has never seemed as important as others, like where can you get condoms in 1980s Carmarthen at 1.37am?, why do the prawn cocktails in The Harvester smell like faeces?, why do all the schoolchildren in Acton sound like Yardies? etc.
 9. What's your approach to 'stagecraft'? I used to read about this a lot back in the 80s in the music mags, but I didn't really know what it meant. Do you make an effort to move about, interact with your fellow band members, dress up a bit, and is it an effort or do you do it naturally. Do you ham it up a bit and enjoy it, or do you dread having to get on a stage and be an entertainer? AND WHY? For me I love dressing up a bit, moving about, and it's partly natural and partly deliberate, but I really love being on a stage. Oddly, it's the place I feel most comfortable and safe, and it's probably because I'm a anxious nervous type of person and consequently I need attention and affirmation. I also grew up on glam and prog rock and that feeds the total tart within me So is the gig a big event for you with all it entails? Or is it just another place to play music?
 10.
Working in a n music store, I get asked this all the time...is bass easier to pick up than guitar? Recently, I showed someone a relatively easy bass part ro a song, but she struggled with string changes. So, what do you think?
Without question, bass is easier to pick up than guitar. The variety of mechanical techniques required to operate a guitar is much more complex than a bass.
 11.
Re: The second one, I find it odd that people are criticizing it because he's playing it like a guitar, what's wrong with that? "He might as well be playing a guitar" is an entirely non-existent point, if it's so similar to playing on a guitar as to be indistinguishable, then why would a guitar be preferable? I just don't get why we bassists as a general collective seem so keen to lock ourselves in a box and limit ourselves to an extremely small range of styles and playing techniques. The bass guitar is a piece of wood, a variable number of metal wires, a couple of magnets and some electronics. I see absolutely no reason why one method of playing it should be more "valid" than any other.
Because a bass sounds rancid when it's played like that. The timbre is just butt ugly. All the focus is on the skills of the player, the actual music becomes secondary. If you hear that on a guitar or piano, it will simply sound ordinary, if you do it on a bass people go wow! innit clever! There's only one BC member I've ever seen who can make that sort of playing sound pretty and emotional and that's Kevin Glasgow.
 12.
I don't want to be contrary for the sake of it , but I'm not keen on either of those two pieces . The first one , I think it's fair to say its' reach outstrips it's grasp in terms of execution , and the second one is well performed but bland , to my sensibilities at least . .
Yeah I'm afraid I completely agree. The first is pretty ugly as a composition and clumsily performed. The second is because there was no piano available.
 13. I really like the song, and two mixes stood out above the others in terms of punch, clarity and overall vibe.
 14.
Agreed, as a Zappa die hard fan, I strongly agree about Scott Thunes, but then Frank was very anal in his choice of musicians and the gruelling auditions he put them through before actually hiring them, Scott was a great bassist but also a complete and utter weirdo, very difficult to get on with and according to Frank who mentioned it in one of his last interviews, Scott was the main reason for the band to start fighting with each other, because no one wanted to play with him and he actually caused other member to want to leave because of his attitude. This is a small description from Frank in regards to Scott Thunes zappa: scott has a unique personality. he also has unique musical skills. I like the way he plays and I like him as a person, but other people don't. he has a very difficult personality: he refuses to be cordial. he won't do small talk. and he's odd. so what? they're all odd! they should tolerate each other. unfortunately the real world doesn't work that way, and I don't want to name who got this thing started, but it turned into a personal vendetta against scott thunes. nov. 1991 Anyway. If ever you happen to be south o' the river give me a shout, I have the whole discography here on CD and can show you some really forgotten jewels that Zappa recorded but not a lot of people have heard. There is a particular song, which was recorded years before the "Does Humour Belong In Music" tour, on an album called "Sleep Dirt" the opening tune of that album is "Filthy Habits" and the band at the time was the crème de la crème : Zappa on guitar, Patrick O'Hearn on bass, Terry Bozzio on drums, George Duke on keyboards, and I find this tune to be very dark and eclectic, in particular the bass line is almost scary to listen to but yet very captivating, check it out, unfortunately is not a live video but just a youtube song
Fantastic! Thank you! Loved the Filthy Habits vid!
 15.
This thread should be retitled "justify why you are in a covers band"
No. I was interested in WHY people are in cover bands. There was no subtext.
 16.
Sounds a bit like a hot-rodded Marshall type. There's a lot of those.
Interesting
 17.
God, too much reverb! Bloke thinks he's Steve Vai! Does sound pretty sweet though; I'm gonna go with a 1959 Fender TV Bluesmaster Mk. IV Hyper Mach III Ultra-Verb XXX 5150 Type V7. Boss tweed obviously. Truckstop
Warmish
 18. I just bought Mike's 1983 USA Fender Jazz. The bass is near immaculate, it's been extremely well looked after, Mike's description was spot on, and he's been very helpful sending me pics and details so I could be sure the bass was for me. It is! Mike's an absolute gent and a total credit to basschat. Mike, lovely to meet you and Sally, thanks for the lovely chat and a very welcome coffee!
 19.
I have just sold my 83 USA Jazz to Nigel. He came to collect and is an excellent person to deal with. He is friendly, honest and considerate. (Thanks for the wine Nigel, it was a lovely thought and gesture). You can be confident when dealing with Nigel, top man, a real credit to Basschat, really interesting to talk to and a pleasure to spend time with.
Mike, it was a pleasure to meet you and Sally, I LOVE the Jazz! Thanks so much for the lovely feedback. Nx
 20.
Hmmm. It's gonna be something really unlikely like... an Argos baby monitor!
No, it's not a Pignose
 21. I always loved that Led Zeppelin had their own airliner with their logo on the side. Where's all the glamour gone in rock and pop music?
 22. That's as rock as Van Halen. All the principles are there in a different musical style.
 23. I bet you're thinking it's a nice valve amp or something? The sound quality ain't that great though, but I think the sound's character comes though.
 24. Jesus honestly. What the f*** do you guys want from a rock star these days?
 25. Anyone watching? It's very very interesting.
