1.
Was this a Markbass 4 x 10? If so, how did you find the sound it produced? Bassy, thin, twangy, fat, clean, balanced??? Suitable for rock??
The cab was pretty much spot on. I only had a 5 minute play. The low end when striking the E was huge....so id say bassy. It was definitely defined and clear/crisp.

I dont know much about MB, but from my little demo, I love their gear. More so the heads.

  2. I was impressed by how clear everything was. The size has always amazed me. My girlf picked up a 2x10 MB cab and couldnt believe how light it was....and the LMII head...less than a laptop!

Its definitely a contender for my new lightweight touring head...an LM 3, an LMTube or genz Shuttlemax.

I was thinking Gallien 1001RB II, but I really need to keep the head as small as possible!

It was with a standard mex Jazz from the shopfloor as well. Soooo loud! And that was with 1 8Ohm 4x10 cab!

  3.
I used to have an Ampeg Fridge... I mean an ACTUAL fridge! haha it broke though :)

And yeah, the Orange cabs sound better than any i have tried. If you can keep them at head hight... If not, because they are soo deep front to back, they sound a mess. i'm a sucker for matching things though, Orange head, Orange cabs... Marshall head, marshall Cab...

I'm just not a huge fan of the EQ anymore on the orange amp,

Every band i hear that i like the sound, It's an ampeg...

Start buying again people and get this Orange off me! so i can have my ampeg :-)
If I were you I wouldnt sell the Orange for an Ampeg...no way. The Orange will always sell extremely well when the right bidder comes along. A lot of people have negative views on Amopeg right now (not me though!). Orange are surging into massive popularity and Ive seen a few USA bands using the entire Orange bass rig. I do love Ampeg myself, the SVT 3 Pro is great but seems to lack juice, and the CL is obviously a good head.

I have the AD200b and the Orange 4x10 and 1x15. The 1x15 on its own is incredible. Capable of a lot, (and ive seen some very good pro reviews). With the 4x10 its just a brilliant tone monster. But the Orange 'sound' is definitely different to Ampeg. It is, to me, thicker, fuller and with way better dirt. But yes, an 8x10 is awesome. I have the Ampeg 810 for a totally different sound. Its good to have the option of what cabs to take.

The Ampeg Classic I compared it to just didnt have much else going on, and I had to fiddle to get the right sound. I was a little disappointed. The Orange instantly gave me awesome tone. No messing about...I barely touch the EQ. Thats what sold it to me...and the fact it looks way cool. Plus Orange seem really good with warranty issues.

Ive tried a Marshall 8x10 and it was a bit...well it was good but not amazing. I don't like the VBA.....very loud yes, but some weird controls. Marshall is always a bit too everyday for me.

If I were to recommend anyone a tube head with some grit and awesome looks I'd say Orange straight away.

I'd say dont sell! hahah, but thats me! Get an Ampeg 8x10 and you will get a more focussed rock punch. Then youve got the choice!

Ive sold two items on basschat really well, and got the money I wanted before I put it on. Beware of ebay!

Good luck with getting what you want anyway!

  4. Hey

I needed a fairly fast reply so Ive put it here.

Its more about a company anyway, so its kinda 'general'.

Anyone used www.flightcasepro.co.uk for their flightcases?

    http://www.flightcasepro.co.uk/Tuff/NSP-Cu...Flight-Case.php

Seems like they have good customer service.

I want a flight case for my Orange AD200b....probably a good idea with a head like this!

Anyone have good reports...or know of any outstanding companies for around the £150 mark incl VAT and delivery?

    Thanks

  5. Yeah its a lot of money. Im not that bothered about all the features...I just want a very poweful small head.

Now MB have 3-4 new models due to hit very soon, and the Shuttle 6.0 Max is due, I think Im holding back and saving funds.

£744 is a fair bit...I dont know if the 450W is gonna be what I class as loud...like my old Trace or current Orange.

  6. Yeah i heard these have just come in stock.

    They look very high tech.

What is the volume like with them?

Can you power two 8ohm cabs or 1 4Ohm and sound like a full on rock rig?

They are a bit more than the Shuttle so im not sure what to do! Shuttle 6.0 Max, standard 6.0, this new head, a LMIII, or even a GK 1001 RB II.

  7. Its a massive shame I live nowehere near the stockists of this gear.

I might pop to electro and try some Mark Bass and see what else they have today.

I think if I go down the ultra lightweight route, I might have to wait a little while. Ive been told an amp can be provided for our tour so it isnt now a massive problem.

Soon, there will be the MB LMIII, the Orange Bass Terror, the GB Shuttle 6.0 MAX and no doubt other bits n pieces in the next few months. Hopefully not that long though!

Ill try and try the GK 1001 out asap.

    Thanks

  8. So....I had a new neck plate sent out, and I need to fit it when I put some new strings on.

Its six bolt, and basically Im scared!

How do I do this with no damage to my bass?

Is it something a shop/tech should do?

I thinking put it facedown on a soft surface, get the correct screwdriver, unscrew all 6 evenly, take plate off, line up new plate, put in screws half way each, then put all in properly. Then tighten a little. Then new strings.

    Will this affect anything?!

    Thanks

  9.
The Shuttle 6.0 does have volume issues. IT'S TOO LOUD!

When I play with Chainsaw, I'm the only one that doesn't D.I. to the P.A. because I'm loud enough already! And we are a loud band. Almost every gig, I point out to someone in the band where my master gain is ...usually about 20% on. It's ridiculous.

However, it isn't as loud with a passive bass ...so you might not go for it.

But the OP was about a back-up head. With the Shuttle OR Little Marks, you get something with great tone and volume, that you can carry around with you without noticing. I can't see the point of lugging a medium or heavy head to have just as a spare ...unless it simply lives in the van for when there's an emergency.

Mind you, if I had two heads, I'd be keen to split my signal and use both ...one for the bottom end and one for the growl and bite! Ooh er Mrs :)
You are kinda right here! I was looking for a small backup and ive gassed upto a 700W GK!

    Oh heck.

I do really need small and light...and more hi fi with the capability of some grind..which keeps pointing shuttle!

  10. I think it would be good if the amp matched well with a Stingray and Fender P and J.

I definitely would like something much more crisp.

The Orange is the king of tube. Just tried my Stingray through it for the first time. Wow...perfect...so much punch and low end. And with the gain high the MM sounds like a monster!

But, Ive heard many good things about MM GK pairings!

  11. Cheers!

It was only the bi-amp thing I was worried about....it says somewhere about potentially blowing horns?!

Ive seen tons of guys using GK's with ampegs etc, just wondered how the horn reacts in 4x10s...dont want to overload it.

Is the bi-amp thing even a massive deal? I think thats what I was thinking!

  12. My conclusion is....I cant get any more cabs. Ive got an Ampeg 8x10 for BIG gigs, an Orange OBC 4x10 and an Orange OBC 1x15.

All three cabs care capable of some pretty high volume....

So...now Ive got my Orange AD200b for recording and more pro gigs, I want something I can use for smaller gigs or gigs when we have little room.

A lot of the time it will be house 8ohm or 4ohm cabs....so basically its got to be good through other cabs and my cabs.

    Hmmm....this is quite a mindfield!

It has to be able to do rock....if It cant it will not cut through. Ive heard volume issues with the Shuttle 6.0 which is annoying as I thought it might be the right head for me :)

The GK might be a good idea....but I wont be getting GK cabs....ive got too much gear.

Its more like a 'second head'....between £500-650 max.

    Anything will be considered!
