1. Hey

I play mainly pretty heavy punk...but I definitely dont play simple punk.

I would like something that can do most styles, from rock to funk to punk etc etc. I use Fender Jap P bass, 2 x Stingrays 3 band eq and soon to be a USA Fender Jazz. So pretty much the tradtional style of basses. I use a pick mainly...but Im getting much quicker with my fingers and slap is getting better too.

I play venues that arent really that massive. I currently own a Orange AD200b so I have tube gain on tap with that. I just want something different and more modern/clean for at home use and gigs where I really cannot justify taking out my Orange...or that we dont have enough space! I love the Orange but its size and value put me off taking it sometimes.

So yeah....small to medium venues I guess. I am challenging two guitarists with half stacks and a loud drummer. The old Trace I sold was ok at 8Ohms (280W ish) at most venues..and at 4Ohms (400W) it had wads of power left. Im guessing, but not 100%, that a MB 500W will be damn loud....even though its tiny!

    Thanks :)

  2. Right..this is gonna be a long one.

Ive been looking at review after review.

I have now got a list of 3 normal volume heads that are possibilities:

Shuttlemax 6.0, Little Mark 3, Little Mark Tube.

The cabs I was thinking are below (cab might come a few months down the line)

    Epifani 2x12, Shroeder 2x12, GB 2x12

The cab HAS to be lightweight.....otherwise there is no point. I have VERY heavy cabs already!

I have another option....EVEN louder heads:

Shuttlemax 12.0, Little Mark 800, Little Mark Tube 800.

How loud do I really need to go?! I mean, 500W at 4ohms for the MB stuff means I need a good cab to handle that power.

Do any UK bassists regularly use that much power? What cab would be best for an 800W head?

With the GB its more of a case of having enough cabs! But do i seriously need 1200W? A volume reality check is needed!

I did some searches but these are the options Im left with.

PS - Id love a Berg but they dont do a 2x12 :)....

    Please assist experts!

  3. So, this is new. Its probably in better condition than a shop would give you. Everything is excellent...I've inspected it and there is not one imperfection with it. Not one scratch. It has not been gigged once. It has been tested a few times in the house, and thats it!

Everyone knows what they are, and I can get some pics. It also comes with a soft cover to protect it which is about £50!

Massive cab, massive tone, and this thing is MINT. No messing about, nothing wrong with it, brand spanking new. All the tags are still on it! I have its original box, with the original packaging and bags etc. Getting it back in it would be very hard work, but the box is fully intact!

So, offers if anyone wants it. Shops are about £980 plus! Even on gak.co.uk

I know used prices would be much less, but this isnt used. You would get the Ampeg warranty for yourself!

    £705 ONO...

Please PM me for info/pics/address/etc. I havent put pics up as it looks like every other brand new Ampeg 810e you see. I am based in North East Lincs. Sold a few things to fellow TB'ers recently and they have been very happy with their items . I can meet halfway if necessary. If you are based in Yorkshire its not that far at all. I am willing to send it, but it would be best to arrange a courier you trust. Also, I would prefer either bank trasfer or cash as paypal involves hellish charges.

    Thanks x

EDIT - TRADE has been agreed with store against two brand new Aguilar DB212's. I'll let you know how the new Aggies get on :)

  4. Thanks!

Im tempted to have a good look at the LM Tube as I was very impressed with the LM2 I tried. The LM3 is the same with a few extras I believe.

I definitely need to try the Genz. Itll be the new Max that Im after.

Im going to a/b them all very soon so can hopefully make a decision. I play in a loud hardcore punk band and my Orange really does the trick, but I need the lightweight for small gigs really. I might be the first bassist in a band like this with a MarkBass/Genz....its not the usually done thing! I am going to try a lot of other styles with it so slap tone is essential!

  5. Please enlighten me how this makes a difference over say a Shuttlemax 6.0 with only 1x600W output...

Does it mean I can hook up my 2 full 4 Ohm stacks (one 2x8ohm and one 1x4 Ohm) and power all those cabs?!

What difference does this make and is it necessary?

  6. Right, I was almost set on a GK...but I definitely need something thats the total other end of the amp spectrum cf to my Orange. EG, very light and compact. I know the GKs dont weigh much but id love something in the micro market.

Im very interested in the MB LMIII, LMTube and the Genz Benz Shuttle Max 6.

Firstly, would I need the 800W versions of the MB gear? I dont know if its just overkill! Are the standard ones good enough? And does the Class D make a difference to the sound?

Secondly, what do they compare like to the GB Shuttlemax, and would the 12 be necessary?

    Thanks!

    Any reviews would be awesome!

  7. Hey

They are retailing for £466 everywhere.

I paid about £450 after haggling but it was brand new not even opened so did quite well. It even smelt dead new. Ace.

Yeah, I use it for practice in my room hahaha! Its capable of 400W, and its 8Ohm isnt it. I will mainly use it with the matching 4x10 to have oodles of tone.

Great cabs. Talk Bass has a proper 1x15 shootout somewhere and this cab did exceptionally well.

Good luck. Ebay is sh*t...I lost a bit of cash on my cheap old Peavey cabs on there.... :)

  8. I'd like to know the outcome of this. Also, what in reality does Berg make that competes against a full weight normal 4x10?

Im thinking of getting a lightweight rig as well as my normal rig. Definitely getting the lightweight head, but Id like to know what Berg would match a 4x10......or indeed what matches an 8x10. I mean in terms of sheer air movement etc. I cannot see how 2 1x12s do the same....but im probably in the dark about it.

    Thanks!

  9.
Ha Ha, Cheers Musicman!

Was a gift that bass! but i love it. I want a P-bass the same, I have a Jag as well i might get re finished to look the same (how much does that cost?)
Like that them together, White and Tort shell plate.

By the sound of your name, If you have a Sterling i might be willing to swap the Jazz?! :) haha
Alas I have Stringray! I love that Fender White with Tort though! Definitely a purchase for the near future. A P to match would be amazing!

  10.
I think the general consensus is that digital amps sound a bit colder than the analogue equivalent.

Don't worry too much about having a higher rated amp unless youre into having everything on 11 and overdriving your power amp (which sounds pretty awful with most solid state amps anyway). You'll hear your speakers complaining long befoe any damage is done if it's too much for them.
Yeah thats what I had heard about digital. Ill have to have a think. I dont think I'll need the 800watts...ever. Bit overkill.

  11.
I just can't get past the way they look. I know bass amps aren't the most stylish of things to begin with, but these things look like they were designed by guys who customise big-rigs.
The new LMTube looks a little nicer.

I know what you mean, but they have grown on me. Im a bit the same with ashdown...i cannot understand their styling.

  12. I know these aren't out...but here goes.

I notice with the 2 800s, they are digital power amps. Whats the difference between those and the standard LMIII/Tube?

Is there a sound difference in general with digital amps?

Also, if one of the 800s is pushing out 500W at 8Ohms, is it safe to use a cab capable of 600W RMS....perhap a daft question but I dont want to get a head that is far too powerful. What about my Orange 1x15 at 400W? Would that cab not be suitable?

Its one of these or a Genz Shuttlemax. Love the MB after the demo I had of one.
