  1. This is the 2nd time in 4-5 years that Ive ordered a new USA Jazz Bass.

Ok...I was really excited to go and pick my order up this weekend. Ive spent a lot with the store already.

I ask to take a look and try her out. Straight away, notice the front of the bass is dirty. Neck feels like a dream, and very nice tint to it. Nice new case as well.

I then turn it over....absolutely COVERED in scratches. Also looks like they stuck the sticker (Made in USA Jszz Bass etc) back on. Even though the scratchplate still has its peel off cover on it.

I kick off, saying its a second. Store guy trys to tell me its normal for black to be scratched. I say Im not buying it (I only put a deposit down). He brings a new Precision down for the shop floor thats been played...no scratches. He then tries to make out another would cost me more. I refuse. The manager comes over, understand me and looks disgusted at the quality. He didnt hear what the attendant said. He said to leave it and not pay, hes ringing Fender UK tomorrow. Do I:

    A) Cancel

:) Get another new one and demand it is perfection

    C) Ask for another colour

    D) Report the salesman to his manager as well.

What they dont understand is that Im a trainee solicitor, so hell havth no fury like a solicitor trying to be ripped off by a salesman.

Its a good job I inspected it. Even the Pickups were dirty...and didnt seem to line up with the strings.

    Overall....your advice?

Ive just bought my Orange stuff from there and I want the 1x15 as well, but the one in store is a bit worse for wear. It doesnt look new, so I bet if i ask to get a new one in they will say its more expensive. Ill make sure the decent manager realises I am actually a very good customer.

Well pissed. I really want a Jazz. The last one I rejected as well for finish reasons cos it really was shoddy.

  2. Just tried the Orange Bass Head. Basically, thats it. I cranked the gain quite high, tried a normal mexican jazz though it, pure TONE!

Through an 8x10 is just going to be huge. Orange really are impressive every time I try them out ;)

    GOnna deposit that bad boy!

  3. Hey

I really need to try the Orange out. Has anyone got any soundclips? Ive heard the test demo from Orange on youtube but it doesnt really show it off.

Its between that, an Ampeg, or a Mesa 400+ if I can find one.

I used to like the hi fi sound...I still do...but it doesnt cut it for me through two massive stacks and a drummer. Gallien K sound great and precise...but I think id much prefer a traditional rock amp.

  4. Is the 200W Orange loud enough? I know its diff with the tube heads.

Im getting an orange guitar cab this weekend...purely cos itll make me practice more and look amazing in the room. Through a 6505+....chug heaven!

  5. Right...I seriously need to get sorted and buy a new head to go with my new cab.

My Trace is awesome, but im thinking TUBEEEE.

Or even just a newer version of my kinda head like Ampeg SVT-3 Pro.

Basically, what is going to growl like hell and be punchy for a hardcore punk band like mine?

I use P basses, MM Stingrays and hopefully a Jazz in the future.

TBH....Mark Bass probably wont do it for me, Ashdown have never been bright enough for me, Ive already got a Trace.

I was thinking Mesa or Ampeg. Ampeg would be nice. Despite all that american propaganda that USA is best at production (which is basically xenophobia) is it gonna have to be an Ampeg? Are they from now on gonna be Vietnam so its just the norm in a few years? Its basic worldwide economics....I dont blame them. Anyone tried a full tube nam head yet? Ive tried TWO SVT-3 Pros and they were sweet!

    Cheers

  6. 400W Trace Elliot Bass Amp Head.

Lots of features, 12 Band EQ. Very crisp loud bass tone. Classic Trace sound with ooomph and growl, but can sound fully clean as well. Head is mounted in original Trace green/black carpet covering. Very strong handles on the side. The classic Trace light at the bottom works 100%, and looks a beast onstage as it is that kind of UV lightbulb that orginally came with it. This can be turned off if you dont want it on.

400W @ 4Ohms, about 280 @ 8 Ohms. Loads of options for effects-loops if you dig effects. Line outs, tuner out, pre-shapes, on board compression. Pretty damn pro overall. Genuine sale as it does not get used and needs a new home.

Its pre-Gibson, its probably around 8 years old. Ive had it from new. No problems at all, ever. Never let me down.

Very very good condition, very very loud!

Comes complete with original power cord, original instructions.

    £370 ONO

I can either meet up halfway, (if you can help with petty) post it, you can pick it up here where I live near Cleethorpes (about an hour from Doncaster/Sheffield), or I can meet you in Leeds as Im always at Law School there.

(Sorry for crap pics, had to do it on the mobile in a rush!)

  7. Its basically a revved up P bass. It can sound like a traditional P Bass....if you want it to.

With the humbucker you can use it on its own, blend it with the P etc, but I dont think it classes as splitting the humbucker....unless ive misread what you said hahaha.

Then youve got the EQ to tweak it and make it sound absolutely massive.

    ;)
