Serious (and I do mean serious) problems with musicman neck...
Musicman20 replied to NURZE's topic in Bass Guitars
At that price I'm pretty sure that is a Made In Korea budget line Warwick bass . The EBMM is the made in the U.S.A premium line , so it's not really a fair comparison . If you compare the eye - watering prices of the ( often very lovely ) German - made Warwick basses to even the more expensive EBMM models then MM20's point about the relative cost of the two brands is a valid one , although personally I am scheptical that Warwick or most other companies ( with notable exceptions , I hasten to add ) would behave much differently to EBMM in the same situation as the O.P .
This is where I was coming from. A real German Warwick, eg a 5 string Corvette/Streamer, used to be around £1400, (heck, I got one cheaper about 2 years back). Now, how expensive are they? I mean...we are talking £2000+ A similar Musicman Stringray 5 HH, in normal colours, would be around £1500-1600...not far off the old Warwick prices. I have no doubt that Warwick really are great at QC, but they have priced thereselves well out of the market for a normal bassist. Normal bassists would say £1300 is probably expensive, so they are not going to get a new German Warwick. It is also worth bearing in mind that Thomann are fairly expensive for EBMM's. Unfortunately, every manufacturer is raising prices, but Warwick really have gone into Sadowsky prices now. -
I'm not a fan of Warwick. I don't really like the look of their basses. But that's just personal taste. But they're really involved with Quality Control and the way they present themselves towards the customer. They're even active on several messageboards and they're really helpful and friendly there.
They are, but have you seen the initial costs of a Warwick now?! I'd hope they would do anything for the price they charge. Personally I think the OP is being dealt with fairly, and now they are aware in the USA, I imagine the dealer will be able to do something about it. Its a shame, but it is one of the reasons I don't buy used basses very often. I really hope you get it sorted -
Bergantino are back with neo loaded cabs...
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Meh. Two years after the neo price crunch Jim Bergantino wakes up, realizes that the sky hasn't fallen after all, and resumes using neo drivers. It's not a bad thing, but hardly a stop the presses moment.
Well, yes and no. Personally, I quite like his cabs. There is an approach to them which I quite like, eg he tends to design cabs that sound like bass guitar cabinets, and not high end PA cabs. For me, that is a positive, for the tone goals I have. -
CN212 looks like my sort of cab.
+1! I've waited and waited a LONG time to get the right neo 2x12 for me...this might be it. -
CN112 and CN212. SUPER light! http://www.talkbass....eo-cabs-955185/ C'mon Mark @ Bass Direct, spill the beans

I'd love to try these EAD cabinets. Anyone who hasn't already realised will know that I'm a sucker for high quality detailed fit and finish, with attention to detail as well as stunning tone. I think when you are spending this high end money, EVERYTHING has to be spot on. Any news on the 1x12s?

Not yet, but its probably one of the only things I'll buy this year. I would personally wait for this over the deluxe. It's going to be awesome, and a nice small package.
I remember them . They were a bit relentless too , especially in those days before the Speed Metal Olympics were as developed as they are now . All these bands sound like a right bloody racket aimed at 14 year old boys to me , to be honest with you . I've heard Jason play close up , and he can do so much more than grind out these riffs , it's just a shame he never seems to get the chance . His choice , I suppose . This track is eminently forgettable Metal By Numbers . Could and should do better .
Agreed. He is pretty damn good in the right band. Solid bass player.

This is absolutely awful. No balls to it, awful bass tone, (never seen why everyone liked his tone...sounds like a lifeless Jazz bass). Looks like the usual 40 something metal you get on joinmyband.

It says laquer finish on the Fender site (I think).
I use Group II Ernie Ball flats on my main bass. And I really like them. Which ones are higher tension?
Group 1.

Barely anyone uses Ernie Ball Flats. I've no idea why (maybe not boutique/cool enough) but I've been using some on Ps and Rays and they have a good medium tension (and you can get them higher tension), zing like round at the beginning, then they mellow and thump. Lovely smooth feel, easy on frets
Ah, the fickle nature of GAS!
HAHAH! The price point and upgrades seem good to me. Upgraded pups/bridge, and roadworn (ish)...but im guessing its not nitro finished?

If I didn't have an AD200b, I would have a Bass Terror. They are, for the size/price/weight, fantastic amps. The wattage ratings are quite conservative. The 500 is a very very VERY loud amp.# I have also heard the latest models have a better DI.

Serious (and I do mean serious) problems with musicman neck...
Musicman20 replied to NURZE's topic in Bass Guitars
Sorry if I have missed the details. Was this bought new? I'm pretty sure if it was, they will change the neck. If it was bought used, they will probably have to charge you for the neck, which is how all manufacturers would work. I've never seen anything like that happen before. All of the necks on my EBMMs have been fantastic. -
I'm pretty sure that when I used a cheap Sue Ryder P Bass for fun at a run of Spring gigs, the compliments on the band and the drum/bass work was more than I expected. Tone is fun, and its great to mess around with new sounds. Technique is a massive part of who makes you though. I was always a bassist fighting for limelight over the guitarists, so it has reflected in my playing.

which idiot has broken his left wrist? :(
Musicman20 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
Hope you recover soon Pete. -
Have a break and don't touch them for a bit. Then find an amazing band.
-
The worst thing is when someone reviews a bass/amp/cab and says 'it reveals all of your bad technique'. I can't stand that, to be honest. One person may class bad technique as character; we aren't all precise jazz players. I can hear if I'm playing rubbish with any bass/amp/cab....usually because I haven't practiced or my hands are cold.
-
To be honest, I think the only thing that makes a bass less 'forgiving' is when there is less treble/hi mids, (eg with flats) or when you have grit to blend the tone. I have only just realised how much Flea uses a hair of grit on the recordings...and not only does it make it blend well with clean or distorted guitars, it tends to make the playing of it that little bit easier. I am all for clean bass, don't get me wrong, but I love some grit on it.
From what I've seen on Talkbass it appears to be very disappointing so far this year. In previous years the NAMM thread has been full of stunning photos of droll-worthy new gear. This year we've got some product shots from the manufacturers' web sites and a handful of mostly out of focus photos from the show itself. The only vaguely interesting looking stand was the Ritter one and I've already seen all his new instruments as I'm on the mailing list. :-(
Sign of the times me thinks. By looking at some of the latest high prices by virtually all manufacturers, I think sales must be taking a tumble.

Depending on availability, and how many are out there, Classic Vibe basses? Doubted though...as there are so many out there.
