  1. Nah, rekindling a love of gigging (whilst continuing to use your Bugera Veyron amp) and developing a taste for Fender (style) basses is not the worst thing you could be doing by a long way, haha! Hmmm, what might "worse" really look like? Let's maybe start with deciding that you actually prefer playing a triangle, solo, on street corners, and have given up being in a band to do so...
  2. Just picked up the cheaper, but still very lovely, of my two gigging basses which I thought I'd give a spin at tomorrow night's gig, after a few weeks not playing it. Funny how quickly you get used to an instrument you've been regularly playing and forget the quirks of any you've not...that also happen to any of you? In particular, what planet did Yamaha think it was a good idea to wire up the tone controls on this model: bass, treble, mids rather than treble, mids, bass like everyone else? I've put some stickers on to remind me 😁
  3. Thanks so much for this! Just put in my first AliExpress order - got a set of ZS10 Pro's for the band and total cost less than a single Shure SE 215. PS @Chienmortbb as an AliExpress newbie, grateful if you could confirm if I should be expecting to pay import handling and VAT on top or is the price I've just paid an all-in price?
  4. As someone who's been following this thread since it started 3 1/2 years ago when you were in a covers band, I wonder if it's maybe time to update the title to - "I used to hate gigging...but I've seen the light and actually mostly enjoy gigging now, provided I don't have to do it too often." or, more simply, just: "I used to hate gigging." 😊
  5. Sorry Peter, I've only just seen this. For some reason I don't seem to get notifications when I'm "paged". Would love to go another time.
  6. This deserves a plug for being such a fun cover! I mean bass players do wear shades indoors, don't we?! And the vacant-stare heavy metal hairdo guitarist was just perfect.
  7. Ooor... you could get a Nano+?
  8. Ah cool, thanks. Yeah, if we get 2 to 3 years decent use out of them (we'll be gigging pretty much weekly in 2023) then they will have given us good use - I love the hassle-free compact form factor they provide and the fact that they are a reasonably priced.
  9. Ah ok, that puts a very different spin on it ie stopped working after 18 months having been dropped several times vs being a new set out of the bag, which is what I initially thought. Ok, they're back on my agenda - particularly as Dave's replacements also seem to be working fine.
  10. Hmmm, that's interesting. Sounds like a not great QC on this Xvives then. Shame - they look very neat. Was wondering whether the Rodes, which Russ mentioned above, might actually be an outright alternative to the Xvive U4s for wireless IEMs (I believe they can be used both for mono and stereo) - but he did mention line of sight limitations plus they're also 2.4 GHz.
  11. Tech 21 YYZ?
  12. Be amazing if MB gave us the option of which head we had in the combos. I've asked them if they would consider doing that, but they obviously see it as a less smart move than me, haha!
  13. Kinda shame, the now discontinued Little Marcus head had finally nailed it for me in terms of EQ centre points: ULTRALOW: Level ±16 dB (Freq. 65Hz) LOW: Level ±16 dB (Freq. 180Hz) MID: Level ±16 dB (Freq. 500 Hz) HIGH MID: Level ±16 dB (Freq. 1.4 KHz) HIGH: Level ±16 dB (Freq. 3.8 KHz) OLD SCHOOL: Variable LOW PASS From 20KHz to 200Hz MILLERIZER: 5-12 KHz BAND PASS Filter (Level 0 /+10 dB) But then maybe Marcus Miller knows a thing or two about getting a great bass sound, eh?
  14. Punchy! North of £1k for the new range combos.
  15. Anyone had a chance to try out the MB 58R CMD121 Pure? Liking the spec a lot, particularly the sub 10kg weight & 300W (500W with an extension cab) power, and a much better set of EQ centre points on the amp-head vs the old LM II/IIIs, other than the treble which is still at 10kHz, which seems a little high still to be usable. Choking on the list price though!
  16. This seems to be a great way forward at the budget end i.e. KZ ZS10Pros + upgrade tips/sleeves. Be really interested to get your recommendations for "off the shelf" tips/sleeves (short of getting bespoke moulded ones)?
  17. Gonna be super impressed if anyone owns this, given it was only launched yesterday(?) haha! 29 lbs - is neat. Same weight as the Barefaced BB2 I've just sold. However, it requires an extension cab to deliver its full 800W payload and is a 400W combo as a standalone unit, but that's still pretty decent. However, I was a little gobsmacked at how light the new Markbass 1x12 combo range are - I think closer to 21 lbs.
  18. Interesting, I'm thinking of replacing the preamp on my BB2005.
  19. Cheers fella, I wasn't even aware of the Zoom mixing desk range before you mentioned it so, much appreciated!
  20. I've ended up going for the Zoom L8 following @skidder652003's enthusiasm for his band's L12, which should do the job nicely for the 4-piece covers band I'm taking the lead on this for. It's pretty modest in terms of cost (a little over £300) but the ability to provide 4 separate/tailored outputs to each band member will facilitate us getting wired / wireless IEMs which is the current plan, and the lack of individual monitor outputs was the key constraint to the otherwise excellent Allen & Heath mixing desks we've been using and which have done us proud since 2014.
  21. There's always one isn't there, or should I say 74? 😁 Respect, envy and gladness of extra storage space in equal measure. As you were, haha! 212
  22. I wish, haha! No, it's the in-house PA system that Wembley Boxpark have - it's an awesome set-up including overhead hung PA speakers. I'm sure most band PAs would struggle to fill-out that venue, which you'll appreciate if you check some of the images online. We were just using our RCF 310As as floor stage monitors.
  23. We love getting asked to play at Wembley Boxpark, although it can be quite a tough crowd, at times, as folk are eating and drinking with their mates and not necessarily wanting to engage with the band. Our singer, Ami, never fails to give 100% at every gig and she really helps to energise the rest of us when we're not getting that from an audience. I guess it can be all too easy to lose sight of how fortunate it is to have great bandmates, and it's lovely that she's still so passionate about the band which she's been fronting since 2016. Here's a little clip from last night:
