  1. If you're particularly interested in Yammys & Ibbys then the following threads are worth a quick browse; and if you're looking at particular models feel free to ask the views / pick the brains of the BC'ers on these threads: They happen to two of my very favourite brands of basses, so feel free to drop me a PM too.
  2. Woody are we talking at cross purposes here? I'm referring to the bass dial and the treble dial on the 3 band EQ. Won't they operate in the same way as the bass and treble EQ dials on an amp for which the centre frequencies will almost always be provided?
  3. Ah yes I have seen those - I'll have to admit, I couldn't easily work out what the centre frequencies for the bass and treble controls were from the charts. All assistance gratefully received!
  4. Anyone tried one of the 4003S-5 models? Thoughts?
  5. For my part, 25 days without any gear purchases...well that didn't happen at any point during 2019 so I'm already feeling very virtuous! Although I have a strange desire to upgrade my BF SC to a BB2...must resist, at least until a sliver cloth BB2 with a padded cover comes up in the FS - yes folks that's an invitation to PM me 😉
  6. So @bassfan are you adding Sibob as a "pre failed" starter a) 'cos he's a mod and they can do what they like 😁 and b) 'cos he understands the rules better than anyone as he invented the concept last year? If so, should any of the other trainee monks who slipped in the first few weeks be granted a second chance, if they want? You could maybe set up a tier two "2nd chancers' club"? Young master Dave (aka @FinnDave) as opposed to slighter younger master Dave (aka @dave_bass5) claimed it was entirely down to bad timing and the fact that he had £1,800 burning a hole in his pocket whilst his wife was having her nails done that caused him to slip. That could have happened to anyone right?
  7. @Woodinblack question for you: I really quite like the 3 band EQ on Ibby basses - seems to hit the mark very well in terms of cutting and boosting at the right frequencies. With the mids we have a selector switch to choose from 250Hz (my default), 450Hz and 700Hz on the SR range and a variable mid range on the new headless basses. Do you have the electronic equipment to work out the centre frequencies on the bass and treble dials?
  8. 250 Hz is classic lower mids territory for cutting through 750 Hz for sweetness in terms of cutting a touch (but 750 / 800 will be pretty similar on that score - so not a biggie) and there's quite a big gap on the GEQ effect up to the next EQ mid point at 4.5kHz, so I would swap out the 500 Hz for something in the low treble range at 1.5khz. What about you - where's your preferences lie?
  9. Obviously folk are entitled make there own mind up - personally I'm steering very clear of Paulownia wood basses!
  10. But unfortunately Paulownia is a softer wood (as Holger readily admits), so will ding more easily. Not an issue if you're a fan of relic'd basses.
  11. Unhelpfully they are! I'm guessing no more than 7.5 lbs given my SR 1825 is 8.6 lbs and the headless have a chambered body and no headstock & tuners. If sub 9 lbs is manageable, there's an excellent Ibby SR 2405W just been listed in FS on at a great price.
  12. Haha! My sentiments exactly. I've now got a bad dose of J-MOPR...
  13. ^^ This!
  14. @ch_moren hi there and welcome to basschat! The BassGEQ effect is a good general purpose 7 band EQ with frequency range from 50Hz to 10kHz. The mid centre points are little cluttered at 400Hz, 500Hz and 800Hz - I would have preferred 250Hz, 750Hz and 1.5kHz, but other than that, it should cover off most of your needs.
  15. The ability to boost the mids is going to be key to cutting through. I have to admit to loving the ability to adjust EQ on my bass on the fly should I need to. On some of my basses eg Ibanez I actually prefer the active bass tone to the "duller" passive setting. Some of my basses are purely active and frankly superb tonally (eg Spector Euro LX). But can't you potentially get the best of both worlds by dealing with the EQ / mid boost on your amp and combining with the more organic tone of a passive bass, which on a Yammy BB is just great, if that's what you prefer?
  16. But you'll be keeping your HX Effects, right? So not all bad in the Helix world!
  17. Good to know that my fav amp of all time (Mesa M6) is considered to be "pro touring level"! I'm clearly not just hearing things when I regularly feel that it blows away the D class competition! 😎
  18. Gotta agree with that. In relation to their bass products (obviously they have a BIG name and reputation in guitar amps also), I would observe that: It seems very few BC'ers are buying the WD-800 because of it's price point. From Wat's comments it seems that very few non BC'ers are buying any Mesa amps or cabs. QED?
  19. The Zoom B1-4 is super compact - slips into a gig bag pouch v easily; has a bunch of usable multi-fx (although it's not great at pitch shifting and can't do the clever parallel loops that a Helix can), easy to read tuner and doubles up as a head phone pedal and at its price point is unbelievably good value for money. Yup I've found it hard to let mine go too despite, like Dave, also having a Helix.
  20. I'd actually expect the opposite: if Mesa sales >> Bergantino sales, then economies of scale kick in and they should need less margin per unit to recover their R&D and overheads etc. Obviously a broad brush approach.
  21. @agedhorse that is very helpful, thank you. BUT doesn't explain why the US list price of Jim Bergantino's Forte HP is listed as $1,399 in the US and available for £1,399 including VAT, shipping, warehousing etc etc in UK? OR why our collective experience is that something listed for a $100 in the US typically £100 in the UK allowing for all the additional costs you mentioned?
  22. Ah yes, you've just reminded me why the Markbass AC 121 is still my favourite choice combo: it (pretty uniquely) delivers a full 500W through its own cab without the need for an extension cab, whereas the Rumble, if I remember, correctly is at 350W. Not that should make too much of a difference volume wise, but it did mean that I never needed to push the MB AC 121 hard, and it never really broke into a sweat as the sole unaided bit of bass backline even with full rock band.
  23. Yeah, for sure - no risk of fading into the background with the Ibby big single Nords! 😎
