It would be: You're going to absolutely love bass, so don't leave it till your late 40s before you start playing; A Yammy BB will be just as good as a swanky Sandberg; Buy quality used from folk you can trust on BC and you won't lose a fortune when you come to sell; Those same lovely folk on BC will, however, give you GAS so you'll end up buying a ton of kit you don't really need. But as it won't cost you much more than postage to move it on, you'll have a lot of fun along the way; Avoid compressor threads. Oh and wot @Osiris said...apart from the bit about short scale and the bit about opium as that's never really been my scene 😁

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely NOT too negative and thanks for sharing. Facts are facts. -
Just added a dual expression pedal (Boss EV-30) to my set-up for use with a couple of my synth pedals. Works a treat with the SY-1 - in addition to the really useful hold and release on the pedal itself, you have the ability to control the arpeggiator speed without needing to tweak by hand.

Did they score? Or, more precisely, what musical score were the band using? -
Buying from EU private sellers - 20% VAT from 1 Jan 2021
Al Krow replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I think the position is now clear that Import VAT does apply to private sales from the EU, so maybe worth including a sticky in the sales forums? I'm sure @Steve Browning, as our resident VAT expert, could come up with some suitable generic wording just to remind folk that there will be a further 20% VAT to pay on the cost of the good plus shipping on second hand private sales. -
Buying from EU private sellers - 20% VAT from 1 Jan 2021

Just bought a pedal from the US and now have to pay VAT and Clearance Fee. Always painful when it's an "extra"! I guess the key point to remember is the "Import VAT" at 20% is due on both the cost of the goods PLUS the shipping costs and there is £12 clearance fee on top. I'm presuming there will be a direct read-across of the above for imports from the EU as well now. -

It would have so made much more sense if Sterling and Grealish had taken the last two penalties. -

I think the point is that the rest of the planet is currently watching what is happening here rather than vice versa as we're ahead of the game on vaccine roll out for the vulnerable groups. Europe is 6 to 8 weeks behind us. This is how vaccines are making a difference: 50,000 covid cases now, that level of cases was last seen back in Jan. Current daily deaths around 40, that number was north of 1,000 back in Jan i.e. fatalities have been reduced by over 95% because of the vaccine. That's a huge impact and it's what is underpinning Mickey's ability, to quite, rightly to make this statement: -

Gotcha. Well you have a lot sympathy from us for your home situation on this side of the channel, and stupidity is stupidity and needs calling out. I've had similar feelings of desperation when the virus was ripping through other parts of the globe where my relatives have been stuck with far worse health care than we are so fortunate to have in the West. This is one cruel and unforgiving virus. -

Why is the actual experience of the NL the least bit relevant to the UK? Any more than the actual experience of Japan or Sweden? Different approaches. I know it sticks in the throat of many, but the UK has been right at the forefront, globally, of both getting vaccines developed and also rolled out. This is absolutely the key, no question, to getting things back to normal. There's a reason Macron is now trying to force his more reluctant citizens to get jabbed. Wearing masks in crowded places has gotta generally be sensible, however. Not debating that one bit. Obviously not such a good idea for vocalists! -

Lol! How much are you willing to bet that we close down after 2 weeks? We can give the money to a charity supported by BC. -
+1 Fortunately the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases seems to be pretty low in Brum due to folk not liking the accent. But it does beg the age old, but important, question: Is the Brummie accent good for metal?

I'll PM you now.

Bought a couple more pedals off Rich as part of his Spring & Summer 2021 clearance sale! They came well packed and he made them available for a very decent price with great comms throughout. Cheers, Bas

I've got both an Iso5 Pro and an Iso12 Pro on my two boards - and have substituted these for more high-end Ciocks and OneSpot PSUs. Can highly recommend for quality, compact design (the Iso5 pro is tiny!) and really good value for money.

Rule of thumb that I tend to use as personal guide: Pretty mint and under 18 months old: 60% to 80% of list price > 18 months old: 50% to 70% of list price Depending on age and condition and how much in demand they are. YMMV. Some kit (particularly some brands of basses) can fall sharply in price used vs new. Just a fact of life. At the end of the day, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it and what you're prepared to accept! If you're not going to be using your gear and you can put the money to better use then you might as well sell it. You can always buy back some quality used gear, with renewed enthusiasm, if / when you fancy re-joining the fray. GLWTS

@krispn - that's a great review and has certainly put the Trapper on my radar. And at £109 new, it's pretty reasonably priced: Fender Trapper Bass Distortion — Fair Deal Music

Maybe also worth putting a wanted ad up, you might be able to flush one out.

There were a few in the FS up for sale over the past few months. Most recent one was on for £120 inc P&P, which was such a good price I was tempted to give it another try!

Well it's always fun to try out new gear and, if it's not for you, you can always move it on - with hopefully not much more than the cost of the postage to bear if you're buying used. Just spotted something I wrote up on the 2Notes a few years' back I'd forgotten about the "low end suck" I was finding, so perhaps worth just mentioning that so that it doesn't come as an unexpected surprise! It created quite a stir when it came out in 2016.. Two Notes Le Bass preamp - Effects - Basschat Be kinda interesting to find out how many of us who have had one have held on to them.

Two reasons: firstly it wasn't a million miles from the DG B7K and I have a pretty decent sim of that on my cheap-as-chips Zoom B1-4, that I'm happy to use both at home and in a band mix. Secondly, I couldn't get away from the fact that I prefer the dirt tone from my Pigtronix Octava (obviously that's purely personal), so the Octava is staying and the MBD-2 getting moved on - it's actually already been snapped up via eBay. But it's an itch scratched and I think I've finally found a dirt pedal I'm really happy with in the shape of the Octava.

Which is why Doc J knows his way around basses much better than me 😁 Tbf it actually belonged to my missus, but was still my "first":

Bax have on for £485 Boss GT-1000CORE Guitar Effects Processor for sale | Bax Music (bax-shop.co.uk) There was one for sale at the start of the year - one of our BC'ers who is a sponsored Boss artist had been given one, not sure who he moved it on to. If it had the Boss SY-1 and OC-5 built in, I'd have been very tempted to get it. Been a bit more chat and actual purchases over on Talkbass.

Nailed it. Although I'd also love to see how the drives really fare up against our favourite dedicated dirt pedals. My little Zoom B1-4 struggles to match up to my current goto dirt (Pigtronix Octava). I suspect the Helix would do better!
