1.
First obvious difference was much higher tension
That's not a quality unique to flatwounds - I use Thomastik Flats and they are very, very low tension strings. Almost like rubber bands. I guess it comes down to the materials used.
2. Asking someone to do a price match on a private sale against some random ebay item is just plain rude. I won't respond to such requests. Part of me thinks that Warwick should stop making thumbs for a few years to drive up perceived value. These are great instruments (I own two) , but in the UK fashion for Fenders is utterly dominant at the moment. Anyway good luck with the sale, it's a very fair price. Have a bump.
3. Ha ha! Plus 10000 to this - I was at the bass bash today. Was thinking about posting about it on the bus home!

6. If you are a fingerstyle player who anchors his/her thumb then you may find that you are having touble with keeping unplayed strings under control. 5 string playing opened up for me when I learnt to switch over to the floating thumb. Once you have that you can really fly across the fretboard.

8. Rubbish I'd say. My CV P neck is one of the best I've played full stop, and I own basses that cost many times more than a Squier.
9. The current Squier Classic Vibes are excellent for the money. Great necks. Thay have alot of good comments on BC - just do a search....
10. These are very light, due to the use of Carolena for the body. Very easy to play.
11. Can highly recommend these. Lovely for the money. All the best with the sale.
12.
After returning my bass to the shop, and not hearing anything from them for two months (i know, but what with xmas, and being in and out of hospital i just didn't get round to calling them), i finally got in touch with them to see what is happening with my bass. The response is sort of good and bad, "The Fender rep has had a look at it, and is of the same view as us (this is the quality that is to be expected from a bass in this price range), but he is willing to exchange it for you, although he has said that the replacement might not be any better." I can't get over this comment, and will definatly be writing to Fender UK to see what their view is on this. Also, they annoyingly can't get hold of a replacement until February.
BS. You are being jerked around. These are not hard instruments to source, and none I've seen have had this issue. Complain to trading standards and try to get your money back.
13. Looks lovely! If you decide to move it on give me a shout......
14.
No!!! If you do I'll come and find you wherever you are and feed those 20 frets to you one by one!
Rest assured, the neck will stay as it is! Thinking of sticking some wizard trad pups on it.
15. The 60s CV P bass is a great bit of kit. The neck is utterly brilliant to play. Was going to convert mine to fretless but don't have the heart to mess with such a nice neck. Will get some new pups for it this year.
16. Ah 'tis my old Thumb BO! Good luck with the sale.
17. Bloody hell - that's really good! Both tune and vid. Are the rest of the band playing the heavies? Fun to kick the lead singer around a bit, I'll bet!
18.
Howsat - Knob!
Sorry that one has a gold finish. Looking for an unplated one! Cheers-
19. Anyone know where I can get some of these for a reasonable price? Just looking for the clean brass look, as on an old Westone. Cheers-
20. Okay, so part one is complete - the bass has been bought. Fiesta red! These really are very nicely made and very light too. The neck is absolutely spot on. The basswood body is interesting when compared to my alder fenders. What it lacks in depth it seems to gain in sustain. Next it'll be off for a defret in the new year. For the money all in i guess i could have bought a mex fretless but i wasn't as impressed with ones that i tried as i am with this. Cheers-
21. I'm only in my early thirties and am quite happy noodling away at home. Did a few gigs in my 20s but I knew then that the "gigging band" lifestyle just wasn't for me. In fact the most fun I had was as a pit muso in a theatre production at the Edinburgh festival in 2000. Lots of fun and no "rock star" bullshit. I may do that again in some sort of "am-dram" capacity.... I enjoy playing for its own sake, and I enjoy owning guitars as nice objects to have around the house.
22. Thanks for that, but that's too far away for me to do a safe deal. Bump!
23.
Yeah you'll be fine for a long time, unless you play like Jaco
Heh! I wish! Thanks for the comments, guys.
24. Hi, So I've been on the lookout for a fretless P and given that I'm not in the market for the expensive Franklin sig I was mulling getting a fiesta red CV Squier P and having it professionally de-fretted. I might consider the fretless VMJ but I think I'd prefer a mellower, woodier tone. I find Ebonol too bright for my taste. A good idea? Also, do you folks think that the rosewood board would stand up to Thomastic flats? My instinct is that it should be fine for years. Cheers,
