1. Get 2 pairs and try the ones recommended by jazzyvee. After years of neglect I'm left with crap hearing and constant tinnitus. Believe me it's not good.Look after your hearing or you will regret it. I know I do.
2. Zord We're waiting on Owen's arriving for details like string spacing etc. For the rest my own post on the BZ 4000 or AT's on the 7 string should give you an idea what to expect.
3. I've asked over on the TB Westone/Electra owners thread for you. And PM'd a couple of owners. Can only hope somebody replies. Some good guys on that thread.
4. Good thread. I've a Peavey Zodiac coming this week and was considering Entwistle if the pickup was crap. And now I've heard of 2 options if I decide to change the pre-amp in my 310. Quality guys Thanks
5. I don't mind white but this popped up about an hour after I done the deal on a Zodiac. Last 2 weeks I've been looking at fretless and Zodiacs, twice I get outbid then a fretless Foundation appears here for about an hour. At the weekend the fretless Tanglewood went back up and I got it then a guy in Germany got in touch about a Zodiac. It's on the way, can't say I'm not tempted.
6. Is anyone looking for a 5 ? And how would we convince them. Still I don't mind being part of a select group of 5. Got mines close to hand just now and stand by what I said Thomann got this so right. Give it a couple of weeks somebody will get one. Then we'll be 6 but being the Gang of Four on Basschat sounds quite cool. I've asked over at Big Bass Tabs but about the 5'er,not holding my breath though. The site's not really for me.
7. " had a few courier nightmares recently.." . Thank god you said that or you'd have thinking about getting another one.
8. I'm with AT regards the Harley Benton BZ. Currently the 5 string is £208 and £223 for the 6. I got the 4 string same day AT got the 7. Cracking bass, compared it to my Cirrus,Millennium, a Traben Neo and 2 Vintage basses V1004 and V1005. It held it's own no problem. Can't fault you for hoping on a Curbow as I wouldn't part with mines.
9. Owen here's hoping you're not disappointed. Though if it's anything like mines and AT's experience you won't be. With all the different versions the BZ range should be a potential purchase for everybody. What's the count so far AT any idea ?
10. That's an amazing price. I think sales of 6s will suffer with the pricing of the 7s. As for value, there's nothing on the market compares to it. £230 still getting you just a passive basswood 4 string most places.
11. Thomann's hit the nail on the head with the BZ models. Be interesting to hear how the 5 and 6 stringers are rated.
12. Great to hear you're enjoy it AT I bought a set of Roto 66s a while back 85 - 175(F#) Haven't got round to trying them on anything yet as it's definitely a filing job. so can't comment on tension. 3 band EQ's a huge help eh.
13. Either one would do for me Paul Sadly I can't see it happening
14. I did the comparison tonight and was very pleased with the results and a wee bit confused. Every thing was set to centre, volume full and zero treble and bass on the amp and I was going through headphones Started like this for each one, gradually upping the bass and rolling back the treble. The Vintage V1004 was first and I just couldn't take to it,just seemed to be lacking bottom so after 20 mins I gave up.The BZ 4000 was next heavier than the Vintage but the neck played great and the 3 band is a real bonus,1st time I really applied myself to this and can only conclude it's a very good bass.I can live with the extra couple of lbs. Cirrus was next, felt half the weight and the RWs had lost the fresh zing, sounded great. Was the neck twice as good as the BZ ? not by any means. After that came the Traben, the Millennium (wonderful bass) and the Vintage V1005. The 5'er played and sounded sweet so why not the V1004 ? So I picked it up again, couple of minutes it was nearly there. Needing a change of strings or it could just be me that needed warmed up. Between the Vintage 1004 and the BZ I'd say the BZ gets it due to me preferring the ebonal, the 3 band and the balance pot.Once I get other strings on the V that might change. But very little between them all.Cirrus came top then V1005 and that's just because of the condition of the strings. If all the 4 string BZs are like this one Thomann's got a gem, held it's own against 5 similar basses so no complaints. Question here I've never tried half-rounds but I don't like new roundwounds, prefer when they've lost some zing, so would half-rounds be an option rather than waiting on the rounds to mellow.
15. Our friends overseas just informed me about an X750 for $174 Course they know fine well I'm in Scotland,do they take sadistic pleasure in telling me these thing ? Last night it was $300 is too much for a T-40 My only come back was not telling them Thomann ship to the States for 39 euros for 30 minutes while they tried to source a Harley Benton HB-60. Not quite the same is it.
16. Yep definitely the H22 I'll get the 4000 and the Vintage compared today. For a man who listens to a lot of punk somehow I've had Stomp by the Brothers Johnson playing in my head all day.I take that as a sign, killer tune too.
17. Sadly not in the flesh or it would be mine. Fella over on TB Wolfmancharlie posted photos of his latest build and the Pantera was next to it.Funnily enough every photo he does has a Westone in it. Might have something to with him being #1 of the Electra/Westone club there. Andy I emailed those logos to your site just in case.
18. AT could it be this ? http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-35707--67-Harmony-H-22-Hollowbody-Vintage-Bass If no very similar.
19. Second Pantera I've seen in 12 hours. Lovely bass and a great job you did there. If you get another Westone to work on I've got the logos and the Phoenix symbol. You can get water slide paper and just print them. Would attach them but it says I've used up my quota.
20. Don't tell me He refused to separate for posting.
21. No Owen it's the BZ-4000 So can't help you there I'm afraid
22. This video just went on You Tube 5 minutes ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSlDrRgOums I was looking at the Benton Jazz basses and up it popped. Might help someone decide
23. Just got to say you definitely got the better top veneer. That is braw
24. Glad you mentioned that AT. The body shapes are very similar, horns are longer and slimmer on the HB. The HB is about 3/4 inch taller and the neck/body is less severe ie it's longer, wider and shallower. The V1004 is more a step down to the neck than a gradual slope. It's the necks that have me thinking, well the headstocks. The HB angles up and the Vintage down with the HB having a slope. Here's the two side by side but its the peaks behind the nut. It thickens the neck at it's weak point. It makes me think there's a connection, differences sure but could be cut from the same cloth so to speak. I'll get some time tomorrow to compare them.I updated Amplitube recently and my presets are all to hell, so no playing tonight,I'm ground floor flat.
25. Ok here's a couple more photos Curbow's in the other room and I can squeeze another two in,no way I'm starting hanging on the walls. That would be silly
