  1. Folk also forget the Chinese build to a set price. If a company buys a £20 bass from China and sell it for £200,it's not the Chinese factory at fault. Having 6 Chinese built basses myself they can build great basses when given the chance.
  2. Must be a typo. My deko BK-30 has 24 frets but the picture in the link shows 22. Old stock photo perhaps.
  3. You got 91 from me and I'll pass it on to anybody I know local to you. Did this for a fellow BC'er last week ,they'd just got a new singer So I pass the link an my mate says " KB I know the bass player an listening to the song's on tonights to-do list " Small world eh
  4. So is that just two 6 pole switches I need ? Will any one the right size do or do I buy these ones ? http://www.vintagegitaar.nl/vm/view/category/search/true/virtuemart_category_id/0/start/0.html?keyword=Peavey&limitstart=0&option=com_virtuemart&view=category Cheers
  5. In the spirit of all things 40 here's my one [attachment=179320:Pain of Peavey (2).jpg] Well it's the one that works
  6. Morning Flat Eric I PMd you but there was a problem with the photos. [attachment=179317:T 40 wiring.jpg][attachment=179318:T 40 wiring (2).jpg] These are the switches, much bigger than the ones on the other T 40 and bigger than the replacement ones I've seen for sale. Looks like 87/12 or maybe 84/12 is stamped on then. Any ideas ? Have the switches been replaced some time ? Cheers KB
  7. JJW This site will give you some background to them. How they were developed in isolation by and by party edicts. Well worth delving into. Helps if I post the link sorry. http://www.cheesyguitars.com/index.html
  8. It is bloody wonderful Chris. What a brilliant lass you've got. Had a wee bit trouble with mines today. They're some bit of kit. Top marks to Peavey for these. Congratulations on that one Sir
  9. Chris when did you get the T 40 ? Great bass ain't it.
  10. Oh I agree there Damonjames. The T 40 is all original it's just Peavey changed the switches. Making the control cavity bigger isn't a problem. Chip Todd who designed them does it all the time to make them lighter. He flips them over and routs large cavities out the back. Like-wise with the Patriot. I'll replace the screws rather than cut them and hope the neck comes true. The Foundation's a bitsa, I've two others and this is just parts lying around, all Peavey parts mind you. After nothing going to plan today walking away was the best idea. Things will look better tomorrow.
  11. Wrong type of Tranny Maude My power tools are all 110v
  12. The Tranny seems to always be dressed in yellow. She's heavy too for such a wee thing.
  13. Shops are open tomorrow so I'll get some machine screws to fit the Patriot and plenty of sets of strings ( as long as I cut the right one,had G and D mixed up) Pie tin shielding out and a quick zip with the router will take care of the T 40,it came with those switches so it's keeping those switches. T 40 wiring is confusing enough The Patriot neck can lie a while too see if it comes around to my way of thinking.
  14. I'd high hopes for today. The plan was for 3 basses unveiled well it was not to be A few months back FEND3R sold me all the parts for a T 40 I only had to source a body and finally on Tuesday there it arrived. As did some parts for a Foundation build, well more a bitsa Foundation. So I'd buggered around getting a body, would I just buy one from the States or make one. Numerous requests went out for sizes or templates, I even scaled up a photo in the end I bought one. £45 for the timber then glue and rout or £60 and just bolt it together. £60 won.And while on the hunt I picked up another T 40,just for research purposes you understand But customs mislaid the body Then found it A trial run showed I'd lost the scratch plate screws and 7 of the 8 pickup screws Oh and the scratch plate wouldn't fit, seemed like the switches were catching. No problem says I just open up the other T 40 for reference. Start the day with an easy one. Adjust the Patriot neck. Aye right. it's gooched as Dave's world of fun puts it. Will need straightened and clamped then left in a darkened room while I calm down. The Foundation still needed a SF pickup so I stuck the spare T 40 neck it had on the Patriot. Shorter saddles screws needed for intonation. 2 Basses out of action On to the T 40. FEND3R's T 40 is from 78 so I removed the scratch plate from the 79 T 40,see what could be done. It's a router job the 78 has bigger switches and the body is a 79 or later. So with 3 basses in bits all thoughts of gettin the router and tranny out disappeared. I leave you with the fruits of my non-labour. What it looks like, what it's meant to look like and what I'm left with [attachment=179309:Pain of Peavey (2).jpg][attachment=179310:Pain of Peavey (3).jpg][attachment=179311:Pain of Peavey (4).jpg] The Patriot's not there, I cut the G string too short couldn't bring myself to photograph it. The T 40 that's whole's bloody good though
  15. I'd proudly sport a Cuntz bass
  16. Good to hear another HB owner happy with what they bought. Been more than pleased with my 6. No comment on the headstock but good idea on the scratch plate that weird tort finish wears off so better changed sooner.
  17. Good Plan Big_Stu Might have to go down that road.
  18. So far I've tried TNT,USPS,Fedex and USP all looking for $400 or thereabouts. Parcelhero are quoting £75 and list DHL,UPS,DPD and Parcelforce as their partners. Just waiting on my mate getting back to me with when he's free and if it's in a hardcase. Lucky it's an old Peavey, should handle the rigours of Int shipping. Thanks to everybody for their input. Have a Great Christmas tomorrow.
  19. Great Bass Shabbs. Would love to have a spare one but I'm trying to get a T 45 from the States without selling a kidney just now. GLWTS
  20. I looked through the Importing Guitars thread but it's mainly concerned with importing from Japan and what the Duty will be when it lands here. I've got a bass in Chicago, ebay seller never got back with shipping prices so a pal bought it on my behalf. So can anyone recommend a courier? Fedex quote $450 and USPS $250. Kinda pricey for a $299 bass. Parcel Monkey say £75 but have a lousy rep. All ideas welcome.
  21. It's the Tim Landers bass alyctes. After he helped them out with the Dyna bass they gave him a Sig bass. They come in 5 & 6 string models. No a deadly price £280 to you door
  22. That does look cool. From the little info I could find the fella went on RicResource with " Hi I'm a small Nashville guitar company and here's my new bass " Then was crushed by the PTB. The prototype might have sold on ebay or the listing got tugged. Bloody shame. I understand JH being on the ball regards trademarks, he has to be to keep them, but in this case don't see the infringements. If there had been an action raised Waterstone probably would have won but didn't have the money to defend themselves. Big business wins again.
  23. First spotted these back in September I think,at the time it was the hollow body HB-60 that had the edge though. This is the 6th Harley Benton I have and I'm always pleasantly surprised at the quality you get.It was on the list to try eventually until the week before last. On another forum a friend from Spain mentioned them and I saw one on ebay being sold by our own green alsatian. Certain conditions on this site exclude promoting some styles of basses and this might come under those rules. Nearly £50 off the retail price,I was in.And a few days later it arrived.[attachment=179120:RB414 (2).jpg] Yep I know what folks are thinking " It's a *++++++++ ". I'm going to avoid comparing it to another brand. Call me chicken, Thomann's been selling their products for 20 years and if they had a problem with it they'd take action. I can't say for sure they'd treat BassChat by the same rules So design strongly hinting at elements from elsewhere. At £190 it's at the higher end for a HB. Set neck, long scale with a wee humbucker and a massive SC. 2 V and 2 T, 3 way selector switch. Semi hollow mahogany body. Could the set neck and hollow body have increased the build cost ? [attachment=179121:RB414 (3).jpg][attachment=179123:RB414 (1).jpg] Not too heavy and comfortable neck it balances well and no problems with frets or access up and down the neck. Sound-wise the controls are quiet, no humming and no crackles. It came strung with flats so it's heavy on the lows and mids. Adjusting the pickup height should help the highs. The bridge comes in 2 parts, the saddles rest on a plate. Intonation is fixed by grub screws and string height by 2 grub screws either side of the plate and 1 between the A and D string so it's a bit of a compromise. My gripe is the pickup cover, it's fixed using the 2 screws that set the bridge pickup height. Strings off to remove it. Bloody silly idea. To sums things up Aye it's a decent bass, plays nicely, has a good finish and looks better in the flesh than the photos. I don't mind the upper horn being short. The style will be the stumbling block for folk I imagine with some thinking it should veer towards lawsuit territory. There you have it Retro type vibe on a decent bass at an affordable price [attachment=179124:RB414 (4).jpg] Still fancy the HB-60 in white
  24. UD That's a damn shame and a crap start to your week. Hope it gets better. pfretrock Status do their Hot Wire strings in black nylon. I've got a set on a P bass and they sound good. Developed to work with piezo and magnetic pickups it says on their site. £21.50 for a set of 5 plus vat and postage be nearer £30 http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html
