1.
Lurrrrrrrrrrvly Was it hard to find a bridge cover that was aged? Or did it come fitted Raslee?
I bought a shiny bridge cover myself, lightly sanded the shine and then left it in a plastic tub with some battery acid for a couple of days and voila.....it's pretty convincing...unlike the rhubarb/custard pickguard, need a better pickguard!!!! - will have to see if The Bass Doc is still in business.
2. A bit late to the show but here's mine, a 1970's Precision replica. Now sporting a tort plate (originally had aged white), hipshot D tuner & Wizard trad. pick up which i preferred to the original Really liking this bass - 'considering it's a P - is remarkable...!' before Tort invasion: Dodgy Squire tort: Rhubarb & custard tort: Alas decent 60's tort:
3. Welcome to the club, that's a lovely 'P' - your red was nearly mine but i opted for an aged white one instead. Mine has become my main gigging bass now, mostly for weight compared to my 74 jazz, but i find that the more I play the Limelight the more it feels like and old friend and I'm actually really enjoying the P' bass vibes in my soul/funk band. Enjoy the Limelight
4. It's funny how GAS evolves...i 'think' i have narrowed it down to either the Aguilar 500, Eden WTX 500, or GK Fusion 500 which a purchase would have be early Oct when i have a bit more money to buy new...unless one comes up for sale S/H beforehand of course.. However i have fleeting moments of the Genz shuttles on here too as i have mostly Genz cabs, hmmm! (ponders)....however i think hanging out for the Aggie is in the lead with my research so far . I was going to go the S/H SWR micro for sale on here but the seller has not returned any of my PM's despite having viewed them .
5.
Karl, you're not buying gear on the strength of its appearance rather than performance... are you??
Haha, off topic but i did exactly this a the start of the year. A promise of a summer tour of the festivals would need a good image so i opted for the Ampeg fridge...well, before the summer even began the singer (the main dude we were backing) moves to Jamaica cancelling all but one festival - bummer!!!...The Ampeg looked good though - now sold
6. Hi Martyn, If the guy who's selling the SWR micro on here who i've now pm'd twice doesn't get back to me, and you decide to sell the F1 separately then do let me know. Lee
7. Perfect, PM on the way
8. Thanks for all the great responses folks My budget is now around £400 at most...so most probably seeking second hand. I've have owned an Ashdown Mi550 before, it was ok but felt just that...OK. Any thoughts on these, seem cheap and are they a Promethean re-badge???- Redsub 500: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-BT500H-500W-Bass-Head/B1D?utm_medium=display&network=criteo&retargeting_or_placement=retargeting&utm_source=criteo#full-des The Taurus seems impressive, don't know a lot about them though.
9. Whooaaa, definitely needs a tort plate that P ....and what were you saying about J & P rivalry haha. Joking aside that is a lovely P you got there...nearly as original as my Limelight 70's P Nice story though mate and I'd do just the same, good call
10.
As you know it is necessary to cut the bass somewhat on the Streamliner - it is naturally hefty - which is unusual, but it isn't a big deal. Also the mids can be cut or boosted adequately at three preset frequences, at least for my needs; but the Fusion is much more flexible mid-wise and you would be hard-pressed to find a setting where you would not be happy with the mids. The Fusion is no slouch on bass front either - the pre valves run at high voltage as the Streamliner's do and make the amp very thick and warm-sounding. Yet you can EQ in a 'hi-fi' sound if that's what you want. I swapped my Fusion for the Streamliner as I was intrigued to see what it was like - and I do like it a lot, it suits my current band well. However, it is not as portable and will not so easily fit in to a gig bag as the Fusion does. The SL valves are vertical making the case taller - the Fusion valves are fitted horizontally making it a 1U size. It boils down to purpose, format choice and personal preference. Both amps are excellent and I'd be happy to use either - ideally I'd like to have both.
Very intrigued by the Fusion.....however they don't come in the for sale section very often by the looks of it.,,,may have to save some more pennies.
11. Hadn't thought of the Aggie, never tried one...will have to do my research
12. I see the Fusion has 3 tubes like the Genz Streamliner; Discreet i see you have a Streamliner - any thoughts between the two? I recently had a Streamliner and didn't really get on with it in my functions band, found i was always fiddling to get it less bassy and more mids, but equally it was great for the reggae band i play with also - however i chose to keep my Carvin over the Streamliner mostly due to the versatility of the Carvin. Now, I'm mostly looking for something small and easily portable and perhaps with a bit of warmth as both my Carvin head & current Genz Combo are very clean sounding - i have really enjoyed the Orange Terror in the past but obviously that is too big for the gig bag. Candidates i briefly considered are Eden WTX500, Markbass LM2/3 (are they small enough?), GK MB/fusion, Genz shuttle maybe although something different would be cool, Possibly the EA micro thingy...any others???
13. I'm thinking (GASING) of looking into a microhead that will 'fit in my gig bag' for jam nights, small rehearsals etc but also a back up for larger gigs if ever necessary. I have read the other relevant recent threads RE: Markbass Backline 250 & GK's MB200 etc (which i nearly pulled the trigger on) but i'm wondering are there any other light micro heads with a bit more power out there that will give me around 250/300W at 8 ohms and perhaps 500 ish at 4ohms. Thanks.
14. Very nice, I like
15. Would you be up for selling me the combo cover ?
16.
I didn't realise the heads were detachable? Well I'll be damned, so they are :-)
Ditto, this post got me thinking and then i came across a Talkbass thread that said the amps have a lid on...i now have mine out and it does have a top lid on - awesome!!!...just need a decent bag for it to fit in. To the OP, I did consider your cab combo case that's for sale here as i have the 2x10" but but because of the shape of the cabs it wouldn't be neatly stackable. So I'm looking for the Contour ext.speaker if anyone should have one. Anyhow have another bump and GLWTS.
17. If you PM me your email I can probably scan the dots and email. Good tip - tone mostly or all off to taste, play close to neck for fatter tone, neck pick up if more than one and you could also try playing with your thumb to see if that works best. Buffalo Soldier is a good fun song to play, Three little birds is a doddle too
18.
The red P isn't there anymore
I was almost going to have that one
19.
Devon, I believe.
Correct, Mark is indeed a fellow Devonian. My Limelight P bass is 8.5lbs also. Karlfer, your green/tort jazz is simply stunning...I love it. Nice weight too as my 74 jazz (mostly retired for the occasional reggae gig) is nearly 12lbs. My Limelight P has become my goto bass for my functions band...now sporting a Detuner and a Wizard trad pick up.
20.
We demand a thread. Getting close to possibly somebody starting a Limelight Porn thread?

Yes you should. Pics, or it didn't happen!
Yes, yes, yes...i'm on it soon. Too busy playing the darn thing the for the longy's posts...in between job applications, babies meh meh meh xxx ...and yes the pickguard is pizza:
21. Just got in from a strange Monday night wedding gig...bizarre on a school night. Anyhow second time this weekend my 70's Limelight P has been out and I absolutely love it, changed the pick up though to a wizard trad, the original was ok but I just think the wizard trad has the edge a bit. Anyhow... I love my Limelight and should do a NBD although I've had it for around a month or so ...can't believe I'm enjoying a Precision as well...ahem
22. +1 for Tom Anfield, legendary! Also I was quite impressed with Rich in Sound Unlimited in Plymouth.
23.
Very busy summer - normally two weddings a weekend, with the occasional Thursday pub gig. Loving it - and the cash!
Same boat! I'm actually quite liking the functions/wedding scene...often get well fed, looked after and decent pay for playing bass all over Devon/Cornwall...what's not to like
