  1. Yes! I haven't opened anything yet though!
  2. First rub down. 800 grit we and dry. I bit grr...I had small run and was a bit too aggressive I suppose, so I've got a small patch that's gone back to bare wood. I've reapplied the black stain and I'll start relacquering that area. derrière.
  3. Day after tomorrow. 😀
  4. It's had five coats of Crimson Lacquer. Just using a brush and allowing it to fully harden. I've not buffed it yet, consensus seems to be to get it to at least eight coats before breaking out the wet and dry. Irritatingly, there's a couple of areas where the body has little splits in the grain that seem to suck up the lacquer, so these areas have been over lacquered. Photo below...the lacquer goes on with a slight white finish that fades as it dries.
  5. Next Wednesday. 😘
  6. Second coat way better. More later.
  7. After being laid low by the plague, felt well enough to spend an hour in the garage. Applied a first coat of the lacquer. Small amount of stain lifted, but all ok. It's weird stuff, slow moving, like treacle. Applied with a paper towel, which was an option and fine. Body just sucked it up; going to give it 20 minutes and apply a second coat with a brush, then leave it for a couple of days.
  8. 2,869. This is insane.
  9. We're over 2,700 plays now in under three weeks and have been put on some Spotify curated playlists. I know compared to The Beatles this is miniscule, but I just have no idea how this has happened.
  10. T-Rex. I haven't listened to Tanx in a long time, so that's on now. Electric Warrior after that.
  11. Tech21 kit. That is all.
  12. I've decided on Crimson wipe on lacquer. It's going to be too cold to start spraying. I'll post photos.
  13. As it's getting too cold to spray clear coat, I've gone with Crimson lacquer. Never used it before.
  14. Homing in on 1,500.
  15. I bought a project bass a couple of weeks ago - it's had two lots of oil stain (Fiebings) - picture below is of the first pass, did a light sand today and applied the second application earlier - it's a lot more consistent now over the body; I'm happy with it and don't feel the need o go with a third application. Despite the allusion that the body is lumpy along the grain, it is very flat. Need some advice on sealing it all in; I'm undecided at this juncture whether to go with a matte or gloss finish...I kind of like the matte finish on my Lulls, but that's a solid paint (it felt velvety when I got them new). I just need a little advise on clear/glaze coatings. What are you guys using?
  16. Having a good long think here...can't actually remember the last time I felt the aching pang of excitement that I would have had in my childhood.
  17. 15 days. Actually getting a little excited now.
  18. I'm undecided at the moment; probably gloss.
  19. Update. Put a dowel in the hole, sanded back, it's lovely and smooth. New batch of Leather Dye arrived about half hour ago, so I've blacked it up and rubbed back any excess. Went on lovely. I'll let this dry up overnight, give it a light sand and reapply. The photo doesn't really do it justice, it's a nice body.
  20. You've not really said the actual scale length of the neck, but let's for the sake of argument assume it's 32" (short scale up to 30", medium 32", long 34"+); if you went with a standard body (again for the sake of argument, a P or J body) and went with the same neck pocket, you would need to bring the bridge forward towards the pickups or it won't intonate properly. Obviously you'd need to measure. You'd run into issue with the pickup(s) not being in the sweet spot(s) as well.
  21. Bass builds aside, Lignum are currently posting videos of an eco-house build they're involved in. Fantastic stuff!
  22. I haven't got a clue... I'll admit I was surprised it got left in.
  23. While I doubt I'm going to be able to retire off the royalties, current band has racked up 1,000 Spotify plays of just one song in the last two weeks. (Old band, hundreds of songs, six plays...which alludes that not even the band are listening.) I keep asking myself how? It seems to have been picked up in Mexico and that spread to Brazil; there's an even spread generally on a global basis. Weird.
  24. I think I'm fortunate that the smallest hole - which used to be for switching the active circuit on - is plumb centre of a piece of the wood grain, so with luck it won't be so visible.
